Sydney Radio airplay got this version onto the Charts in 1973. I've always preferred this version. The whole production and mix is superior to Rod's and Cat's versions. I'm particularly impressed with the Horn section. In 1973 I was 12 yrs old and the Horns at 2.45 of the song really 'blew' me away. Pun intended.
I wonder if Grammy Award®-winning tunesmith Sheryl Crow had learned about that above sound recording version. After all, Sheryl Crow had her singing interpretations of the same above song recorded at the same above recording studio being A&M Records® [en.wikipedia.org] 😊😊😊😊😊.
The story of my life. I never got over the first cut.
The best version by a mile - well done Keith!
Best version
A true classic with full feeling! The man has a set of vocal pipes for sure!
My favourite version. Remember hearing on the radio in Australia
This is the best version. Very emotional!
Especially at the abortion clinic ! LOL. :)
I love this song and his version is the best! I had to buy the CD.

Turned The Other Way is another great Keith Hampshire song.
Thank you …will check it out
How did I miss this in 1973?! Nice one, does this great well.
This song reached the lower rungs of the NZ top 20 in 1973
One of my faves from '73! Thanks very much.
The first time I can remember hearing this much recorded song was in 1969 when it was the flip side of "No No No No" by Danish Lost & Found.
I thought, "He sings pretty good for a DJ." Reminded me of David Clayton-Thomas. Started a search to find on Wiki that others have thought so too.
Most DJs are talented Singers and Musicians.
I'm proof of that too.
WCRO in Johnstown, PA played this one a lot!
He sounds a bit like cat Stevens I like the production on here a bit Phil Spector wall of sound.
Can you upload the koobas' version of the song
How many artists have done this tune?

This seems to be the most covered of Cat Stevens early songs. I first heard it done by Rod Stewart.
This was before Rod Stewart's version.
Later Rod Stewart and Sheryl Crowe had versions.
I'm so used to their versions that this version seems overproduced in comparison.
