  • Congratulations to Chris Thompson, Applied Skills Teacher in Argos Community Schools and PATINS latest Starfish Award winner!
    From her nominator:
"Chris Thompson has such love and compassion for all of her students. She has high expectations for her students, all the while giving them love and encouragement. She has a student that she and the SLP, Angela Brummett, requested a Communication Consultation, as part of the AEMing for Achievement Grant process. This student was previously non-speaking and had little to no engagement in the classroom. She has fully embraced the communication system that was determined to work best for him. This student now respond to questions with his device and recently verbally asked for help to open his juice with no prompting. She and I stopped and talked to the school's principal, Kerry Johnson about the change in this student's progress. They are working on plans to get more iPads with communication apps to allow other students who need them to have them.
Chris said she will not consider working without AAC devices available in her classroom moving forward because of the change it has made in her classroom. She is passionate about finding a voice in every student and creating a nurturing educational environment where students are heard, loved and make educational progress. She is an inspiration and her enthusiasm and love for teaching is more than evident in her daily practice. She makes a lifelong difference in the lives of her students."
