My first 10/10 movie, great pacing and beautiful cinematography, left the theater out of breath. I thought the x trilogy wouldve peaked at pearl but maxxine really surpassed all expectations.

This movie was incredible Maxine played by Mia goth was amazing her acting is what helps tie Pearl,X,and Maxxxine all together. With references to both X and Pearl while still focusing on the growth on Maxine and her life of becoming an actor and also getting stalked and trying to put it out before her movie starts to film. You are felt with the feeling of surprise when the movie shows who the night stalker was with the movie leading you to believe it was Maxine’s father but it was soon shown later on it was another man and you are caught with surprise because you were lead to believe it was her father. It being someone you’d never except and Maxine having to face the truth of what happened with Pearl and Howard while also trying to not let people know it was her. 10/10 would recommend seeing this movie in theaters 🎭

I’ll admit, I didn’t see the first two or knew that they existed, but I found it hard to care about any of the characters. Maxine acted great but nothing made Me care for her. She had a best friend that died, but outside of the initial finding out, which didn’t seem too convincing, she didn’t seem too attached to him or her colleagues that died. It felt like a slow burn and although I finished watching it, I just wasn’t that invested. I guess I was waiting for the “aha” that never came.

She is a passive character and her relationships with other characters are barely there, making the kills feel pointless and unimpactful. Maxine nor the plot is not fully fleshed out which is really disappointing.
There are some great kills but they also feel oddly paced, which is another issue i had with this movie. There being so many directions the film wants to go in makes it drag a bit in the first 2 acts but then it abruptly wraps up with little sense. Maxine’s murderous build up could become something spectacular but then it just stops?!
This movie is very confused about what it wants to be and was a disappointing end to the trilogy, as beautiful as it was. 2.5 stars

While it’s aesthetic and ode to 80’s Hollywood is brimming with style and nostalgia; and while Mia Goth once again kills it and shines as our titular heroine, Maxxxine unfortunately falls flat in conveying originality or a clear direction or message. Aside from some decent practical effects, Maxxxine presents itself more as a Mystery/Crime Thriller with a black gloved killer. But even whodunnits have something in common with true horror that this one lacked: intrigue, suspense, and a reveal that ties up all the loose ends and clues you picked up throughout its runtime. Its obsession with trying to give you the 80’s vibe ultimately distracts from what should be its first priority: to be a competent slasher that concludes an overarching storyline within a trilogy.

I love how it turned out to be more of an Action Thriller movie..so 80s😂😂

I'm a Gen-X guy, so I personally give it 4 stars. However, I'm paring it down to three for younger audiences who won't enjoy the nostalgic rush and notice all of the Easter eggs.
This movie is set in 1985, and it has a cool 80's vibe throughout which is a lot of fun.
It's a good old time 80's style pulp slasher flick, more or less.
A few years ago, the movie "X" hit the screens, and it was fantastic.
It was followed the next year with a PREquel, called "Pearl."
    Pearl kinda sucked.

I think this was a great end to the trilogy and a great watch for franchise lovers. If you're looking for something that is actually scary though don't expect too much out of this one.

An interesting follow up to Pearl where we delve deeper into what makes this girl so criminally insane.
It's a good philosophical angle to view the psychopath from as it offers an explanation. It also endears Pearl/Maxxxine to us as a lovable minx.
There is a wonderful cameo from an elderly Pastor Kenneth Copeland preacher type. He immediately steals the show. His beady eyed religious fervour was actually quite scary.
I only gave this film a three as it didn't allow Maxine to really cut loose with her cold killing shtick. We understand why she does what she does, so why not let the poor girl do it?
There was a very funny end scene where she lingers on and on in the glare of a full spotlight and detailed recorded view of all to bring her nemesis to a grisly end.

Director Ti West and bloody muse producer star Mia Goth create one hellofa’ sequel to the duos perverse slasher on a porn shoot ‘X.’ So many homages from a 1980s soundtrack and fashions to various slasher films beginning with the great, great granddaddy of of them all ‘Psycho.’ The story literally uses the Bates Motel and house as backdrops. West mixes it with the later Italian gallos, Brian DePalma 1980s output, and even a nod to Richard Lester’s ‘Petulia’ (1968). This is one interesting movie. I left the theater shaken, almost stunned by the shear energy and imagination West, his production staff and his actors show. If you like macabre thrillers that bite, this slasher is for you.

Compared to the stellar movies that were Pearl and X, Maxxxine was a let down. The Night Stalker bits were what drew a lot of people in but was honestly just that, to draw you in. I would have loved to have seen West do something like Tarentino did with OUATIH but he didn't. It was decent until the end which killed the entire movie for me. Mia Goth was exceptional in the first 2 but I feel like even she kind of checked out on this one. The build up and anticipation for 2 years wasn't worth the payoff we got at the end of this one. While he said it was a trilogy, I hope he sees where he failed here and makes another. He left it open for many more story lines to continue with her being an official star now. I hate that such an amazing 2 out of 3 films might go to waste with this ending. I gave 3 stars because the soundtrack is awesome as an 80s baby!! It wouldn't have deserved 2 in my opinion otherwise.

Visually I think it's pretty cool. Story wise, this felt like more of a mystery movie than a horror movie. Leaving the film I had many thoughts
If maXXXine was the first film, x was the 2 and pearl was the third would I think of this franchise differently.
If maXXXine was more in the background and this was more of a cop movie with Bobby cannavle and Michelle monaghan as the leads would this be a different movie.
If this instead of a movie was some 6-9 episodes series like on Netflix could they have done more.
In the end, I think the film was fine. Is this a must see...idk if I would go that far. Was this still enjoyable...yeah

In terms of genre, Maxxxine kills it (sorry, ahem). Mia Goth turns in a fun performance rife with scary, creepy, inspired, vengeful, and delusional perspective. The direction also fits the 80s vibe well (albeit with the saturation turned waaay up).
    But…
This film comes off as a little pandering when it comes to the shock value. This is a stylish choice that goes just a tad too far and as such mitigates the impact by turning genuine “ouch” moments into a campy Friday the 13th schtick and to prove the point, Kevin Bacon (a 13th alum) provides an anchor for this camp factor (pun intended).
    But…
The movie COULD have gone further. It could have really leaned into the camp and transcended to something greater than what it ultimately gives us.
Maxxxine is decent but it could have been great. If only it trusted itself as much as the titular character does…
    Oh well, maybe next time.

Mia goth as usual is worth the price of admission. Love coming into a theater and portaling back to 1985 Los Angeles. The music was on point and everything about maxxine lines up with her other films 🎥 she does with this director. Was a little let down concerning the end. The night stalker and his insanity would have sit better with me than her preacher dad being the villain. But it is what it is. Maxxine had got some dadddy issues. This is what we learned in this one for sure

Regardless of these minor issues, I really appreciate how they incorporated the Night Stalker into this movie. It really helps to build the theme of the late 80s and make sense of the media craze and protests. This made a lot of sense. I can’t wait to see what they do for the 4th movie (if they have plans). The early 2000s could be a catch. Maybe we can see Maxine build a life and name for herself and make a family of her own only to be challenged by advanced DNA testing, etc. This could be interesting.
Thank you all who contributed to this film. I can’t wait to see more.

The tone shifted from the past two films is a bit jarring. Its a film of growth. I would like to see another one.
Mia Goth gives a performance of a lifetime. We might not see her again as Maxine.
