This entire discussion misses the very most important concept: No matter how potentially dangerous something is, the technical, monetary, geostrategic incentives will (eventually, somehow) outweigh them. Look, for example, at the utterly failed effort to handle the nuclear weapons threat to humankind since the Cold War. Each player’s geostrategic objective participated in a sort of tragedy of the commons, where no one feels obligated to anything but his own benefit, protection, or advantage. This problem renders the nuclear problem unsolvable. No one likes to admit it, but the same problem applies to AI too. Eventually, the incentives to continually and expeditiously innovate overtake the arguments of those who urge greater carefulness. This problem is not solvable because of the fundamental nature of the human personality and the nature of geopolitics.

There is a middle ground between all things. Woke or asleep... where is the sweet spot between these very different extremes? Unless one is within the middle and can be an agent of balance, then still being out of balance isn't helpful to further understanding and evolving. Imo
