Sounds kinda ridiculous now knowing its scripted but i kept replaying it as a kid just seeing how many soldiers could make it to the shingle. Not realising it was the same amount each time 😂
I remember playing MoH for the first time over 20 years ago. The Omaha beach sequence was and is so intense. I can only but imagine how it was for the soldiers that were actually there. All the honor to them and their sacrifice. Operation Overlord must have been hell on Earth.
I remember me and my brother shocked by the "realism" of the time, I remember he talking about the soldiers expressing fright on dying while in the ship.
This level floored me completely when it came out. I knew every inch of every corner of this map at some point. Playing it again today, nearly 20 years later was such a weird experience. I remember it looking so realistic, but now it's like first person The Sims Warfare. Still love those old sound effects and explosions though.
The level design, audio and camera shaking really makes for a more intense experience than the newer Call of Dutys. Sure, it's prettier now, but it's basically just "press X to dodge the MG42" - you make it off the beach in three minutes or less, which is lame.
@@HowlingWolf518 That's kind of ironic, ain't it? Awful level design, compass, dragging player by their hand and first of the many failed attempts to build a mil-sim game by completelly butchering the game mechanics and introducing ridiculous screen effects to make the crap look realistic (but somehow it looks like something built on HL1 engine, despite running on idTech3). It's all there, this is where it all started. I'm almost impressed by how many of the things I hate about many modern games they managed to do 20 years ago.
No you're all wrong. Forgotten Hope did it 10000x better. It's a mod for Battlefield 1942 and when it was at its peak and that the D-Day map was full, 64 players, it was absolutely amazing! You even needed to C4 the doors of the bunkers! Forgotten Hope was really the best WWII experience I ever had. The devs were so passionate about everything they were making, they were even recording real sound effects for guns and tanks, they were even checking old ''blueprints'' of certain vehicles in order to remake them as authentic as possible. They also made a sequel, Forgotten Hope 2, for BF2 and I think you can play it online and there are still players playing it!
This looks like Saving Private Ryan yes, but Charlie Sector like it claims…not so much. Should have the Vierville exit and more realistic beach defenses
Every d-day beach landing and any other landing for that matter has the same theme for all of em...."commander gives motivation words, then explosion your in water, walk up the beach.
This was the top of the line back when i was a kid. I remember being in awe watching my brother play this mission. Those bunkers were so intimidating to me. Lol

I was 14 when this game came out and oh my did I play it. Such an amazing game! My old history teacher was teaching us about World War 2 and one day he brought in a few PCs to class with MoH on each of them. He told everyone, who wanted, to try the Omaha beach landing to get a feel for how intense it mustve been back then. He broke several cods and laws by doing this - but he knew the game and wanted to show us. Damn he was such a cool teacher =)
I remember back in 2004 while in Circuit city looking at games to purchase, and some dude tells me that this game is sic. So I bought it and experienced it on PC. The graphics were amazing for the time.
I was still in high school at that time, and this game is one of the most beautiful memories of my high school days, I played in turns with my friends until the game was finished, I don't even remember how many times I played this game
It came out the year I built up my first PC, like 3 months after. It blew me away! It was SO MUCH better than the PS1 ones that came before it. I was like: Ok, I'm a pc gamer now, I can't go back.
My dad introduced me to this game, at his job, he had a pc incase he got bored, i still remembr the hours of joy i had with this game, and also the hours of rage 😂. One of the best WW2 games
I remember oh I remember , I was young TOO young , 16 I believe and this game turned EVERYTHING AROUND as far as online multiplayer goes, I used game spy or M launch. Man around the days or day or defeat, red orchestra, counter strike, unreal tournament it was truly a amazing time
I dont think I've played this game for 20 years. it didn't have the multiplayer playability of battlefield 1942 or COD1 but it clearly left an impression on me as I remember every bit of this. Incredible
Played thousands of professional matches in this game as nickname [THB]SnitzleFrizzle* This game is a piece of art & a piece of history for older players now days.
What I never understood was how the other American soldiers made it close to the bunker when you and the 3 others where the only to cross after the wire obstacle was blown. Yet it is implied that there were troops there before you.
This was one of the most breathtaking experiences teenage-me had. Holy sh*t. I cant tell you how intense this was as a kid. The game is a true masterpiece.
Me too, man. It kinda sucked how we didn't get to meet up with other soldiers and finished the job up there while clearly there was still lots of Germans in the trenches at least at the end of the level...
You know there was supposed to be more to this level because if you no clip out of the map area you can see red boxes on the shore guns where you were meant to place C4. Weird how they cut that out
didn't we all? the early 2000's were the start of it all. Plus SPR came out in 98 and the band of brothers mini series came out in 01. It was WW2 history everywere. What a glorious time
Some gamers looked at the whole map and found there are trenches and guns you need to take out after exiting the bunker. But they cut these from the game.
call of duty 2 has the expanded beachhead mission, in which you fight you way pass the bunker, on top of the shoreline, and all the way to the countryside at the back.
As a rule, when you need to move fast, you hit Q key and put away your weapon. You run faster when you are not carrying. You also move faster when you are just carrying your pistol.
Not many know this but they use the dialogue from saving private ryans opening d day scene for this part of this game. You’ll notice Tom hanks says similar lines and this game came out a few years after saving private Ryan
Back when you could play video games, not watch them. This level was so immersive you felt like you were at the real landing, yet it was so simple compared to the opportunity given by modern mechanics
Loved playing LAN MoH in a early 2000's cafe. Everyone was a trihard and bazooka was frowned cause it was pretty low skill. Unless it was all bazooka match then whoosh sound and youre a pile of blood.
The defensive line against tanks was made in the Czech Republic. Hitler made a fortune on the Czech fortifications. Those iron hedgehogs were called - rozsocháč. When the Czech Republic surrendered to Hitler, Adolf needed to test the strength of the Czech bunkers, and during the tests, they confiscated a lot of equipment from the Czechs, including iron hedgehogs. They helped American soldiers as a cover from gunfire from sniper bunkers on the hill. The Battle of Normandy on Omaha Beach was a suicide attack on the German defensive lines, which were largely made up of Czech equipment..
Eu joguei esse game quando tinha 13 anos. Hoje tenho 31. Em 2019 visitei Omaha Beach e lembrei de cada momento do game e der uma ideia bem melhor do que foi o caos que se passou ali em 1944. Quem puder visitar, super recomendo.
Not at all. If you get behind cover as the bullets make their way to you (and you have plenty of time to react because they shoot the ground way ahead of you first) just like the video shows, you’ll only be hit a few times. Anyone that thinks this mission is hard are simply playing it incorrectly. Besides, “sniper town” is the hardest mission by far if you don’t know where to look.
Honestly the thing old games did really well was just make you feel like a soldier. You are ordinary individual going to war. There’s no Grand ark your character going though. You’re just there for the win a war.
So getting Nazi disguises to break into their headquarters, sneaking aboard a U-Boat, destroying a gas plant, stealing a tiger tank are all things regular soldiers do huh?
I honestly have no idea how many times I replayed this mission

This is the best d-day mission of every ww2 game in history of videogames!

This is a level that keeps getting remade in videogames. It's truly a masterpiece of game design.
You just have to look on and admire how far graphics have come. This game and others from the time seemed to futuristic but now its a look back only.
А сейчас просто холёную картинку делают и все , ни атмосферы , ни геймплея, поэтому и играю в старые игры ..
Obvious “Saving Private Ryan” vibes.
Of course, MoH was Steven Spielberg's work after all.
