I'm an American Chinese and grew up hearing Cantonese. My speaking has a lot to be improved but I find it fascinating that these are actually the hardest words to pronounce... these are relatively easy for me, where other sounds seem more difficult. I can't think of the difficult ones for myself at the moment. But I'm really curious as to which speakers find these words most difficult
That's good you grew up hearing Cantonese, being in such environment since young let the brain recognize the sounds when you get older, that's why it's easier for you to learn the language! Such a great advantage :)
I'm finding it easy to pronounce in cantonese in general, but some combination of tones is impossible :) One word at the time is always easy in cantonese including nasal sounds, but the whole sentence with many different tones is a nightmare! Hahahh.
can you please made lessons for job working, construction factory etc, conversation between the workers and Forman boss, ordering, ( bring that, take this, how long, short, give that etc.
You're not alone! Those two sounds have very subtle differences in muscle engagement around the lips... Please check out our Jyutping chart with mp3 to hear the sounds individually www.cantoneseclass101.com/cantonese-alphabet/

Almost all of these words are easy for me to pronounce, maybe because I'm not a native English speaker and I speak other languages that maybe have similar sounds.

Madness. The hardest ones by far are those that end in "eon" (e.g. seon3 - believe) and "eoi" (e.g. heoi3 - to go).
thank u miss Olivia. .

I have no problem with any of the Cantonese words except "hoi" (ocean). It always comes out as "heui" (to go)

for me the combination of tones in the number 77 (cat1 sap6 cat1) is hard to pronounce. ToT
You're right! That's not easy to pronounce! :p
You'd just have to practice saying it a lot ^^"
lol medicine sounds like YUCK
sometimes it is
Facinating how Cantonese is evolving and the ng is dropped in ngoh. That is not being lazy, no one controlls language.
That's a good way to put it! Feel free to ask if you have any questions! :)
Do people use "San tai gin Hong" on Happy new year?
Yes they do! :)
What is the Cantonese of the "all house cleaning.."
Thanks
+Natalie Zarini Did you mean "to clean the whole house"..? That would be 清潔晒成間屋 (cing1 git3 saai3 seng4 gaan1 uk1)
Yes, is it ,
Thanks a lot
what is the meaning of the number after the word in cantonese example: ngo5, san1 tai2?
It means the tone. Eg. fu2 an tai2 has the same tone.
The numbers behind the romanization are tones, since the same pronunciation in different tones have different meanings, that's an essential part of Cantonese language. :) To learn more about Cantonese tones, check out www.cantoneseclass101.com/2015/11/06/ultimate-cantonese-pronunciation-guide-8-cantonese-tones/
Plaese never tell me your hungry olivia ill feel sad
Awww OK haha
Almost all of these words are easy for me to pronounce, maybe because I'm not a native English speaker and I speak other languages that maybe have similar sounds.
粵語 is also difficult
That's right, alternatively you can say 廣東話 (gwong2 dung1 waa2), it's easier to pronounce and means the same thing! :)
The hardest sound by far in Cantonese is the ng- sound. Cause it doesnt exist in English. So the hardest words all have this sound.
Yes thats one way to learn that sound, but for a native English speaker saying 'singer' is a lot different and easier than saying 'ngaahng (hard)'
the ng sound /ŋ/ (ipa) does exist in english, although it never starts a word (ex: siNG, thiNk, taNGy), so I do see how it can be tricky
中國 is difficult for me, and other one is 巴西。
The 國 in 中國 can be tricky, but 巴西 shouldn't be much problem, it's similar to English's "bar - sight" (without the T aspiration at the end)

Vietnamese can pronounce 7/10 words and it's difficult for them to pronounce "coeng4" , "soeng5" and "joek6", yeah Vietnamese hasn't the sound "oe..."
Interesting! Thanks for the info! Keep practicing the sounds and tell us when you've mastered it! :D
