    I love what you guys are doing! Such a fun idea to skate each other’s setups. And I agree 100% on not wasting time finding the perfect setup. I tell people all the time on my channel that you won’t know what you like until you just start skating different boards! No need to waste time when you could be out riding!

    • @PHeMoX

      Right, but basically you are saying just 'try other setups', which really is the only reasonable thing to do. You _have_ to try other setups to figure out what works best. And everyone has their own preference in this. So, I 100% believe skateboard deck setup does matter. Just a few months ago I bought an 8.25" with a tail that was too short. The size itself was perfect, but the tail _literally_ made it unskateable. There's no way you'd adjust to a tail you just always have to pop on the out edge that's too short. It's a physical limit. I've since then picked up a cheap Mini Logo 8.25" to see if that was better and it's like 100x improved. So much so, I might consider sticking with Mini Logo decks for a while. (Until Santa Cruz / Creature Everslick decks in size 8.25" are in stock, I love those).

      @@PHeMoX Perfect example of what I mean! The board you hated might be one that someone else loves. We’re all different with different preferences and you won’t figure out yourself until you just pick something and start skating. I teach beginners how to skate on my channel and I think way too many get hung up on their first or even second board choice trying to find the “perfect one” when the reality is they’re still not even comfortable enough to know what feels best for them. I skated for a few years as a kid and took roughly 20years off before coming back last year. Oddly enough, It wasn’t until I did a review of an Amazon board that I found the perfect shape for me. Going to stick with that for a while since it’s reasonably priced as well. Eventually I’ll start trying other decks again to confirm if I stick with the same or change again.

    • @OMNIPHEAST

      @@PHeMoX , my first board was used. The tail was razored down to three inches on one side, two inches on the other. By the time the tail touched the ground, the board was nearly vertical. I learned to ollie on that board. Got it up over two feet high. When I got my next board I had to bring my front foot way back, towards the rear truck, when setting up to ollie, so that the board would go super rocket. Eventually I got to normal ollies.
      Setup doesn't matter.

    • @SkatingwithAaron
      @SkatingwithAaron 3 роки тому +3

      @@OMNIPHEAST Dang that’s intense! But agree 100% that setup shouldn’t limit you especially when starting out. As long as the board doesn’t break you’re good to go!

      @@PHeMoX, depending on the trucks you were skating on that board it's possible that's what made it unskateable. I wish more skate UA-camrs would talk about wheelbase and how that plays a bigger role than even the width of a deck.

      Correct, but it works both ways. If you want to do toe flips, pressure flips and maybe stuff like old school kick flips, you're going to want the trucks to be tight or at least medium level tight. If you do a lot of 180 based tricks though, having loose trucks might be a life saver preventing a LOT of tic tac landings. So yeah...

    I just switched to 8.5 loose indies on 54mm wheels from tight thunder low hollows on 51mm wheels and it changed skating for me. The taller wider and looser truck just turns soo easy and i feel like with landing you can get away with more if you flow with it, where tighter trucks throw you off the board. Also the wheels , i noticed the heft in weight which helped ollies for me somehow. And just more speed/momentum. you can ride over rougher ground and haul ass. I totally get what he means by his board being a monster truck lol

So even within the size range, the board shape itself truly _does_ matter a lot. I really disagree with the whole video to be honest. My 'perfect' skateboard deck would probably be the Andy Anderson shape, but in size 8.25". Unfortunately I have the 8.45" A Anderson Flight deck which is awesome, but for a beginner trying to learn flip tricks it's a bit too big really. And it's not even about flipping it.
