Phantom Dust multiplayer error fix: "could not find a game session"

Full text instructions below:
• Open your Start menu and search for "Command Prompt"
• Right-click on Command Prompt, and click "Run as administrator"
• Copy and paste the following 4 commands, and press Enter after each one:
netsh int teredo set state disable
netsh int teredo set state type=default
netsh int teredo set state enterpriseclient
netsh int teredo set state servername=teredo.remlab.net
After the above is complete, open up the Start menu and search for "firewall", then open Windows Defender Firewall:

• On the sidebar, click "Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall"
• In the upper-right, click the "Change settings" icon with the shield next to it
• At the bottom, click "Allow another app..."
• In the "Path:" field, put the following:
C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe
• Click "Network types..." and check the boxes next to Public and Private, then click OK
• Click "Add", then click "OK" and close the window
• You did it! Reset your PC, and then run the Settings 🡒 Gaming 🡒 Xbox Network test again, and the error should be fixed.

STILL HAVING ISSUES? Try this!
• Open your Start menu and search for "Command Prompt"
• Right-click on Command Prompt, and click "Run as administrator"
• Enter the command:
sfc /scannow
• A scan will start -- let it finish.
• No matter the result, close the CMD, and restart your PC.
• Go back and check your Teredo and Nat settings.
• If the fix worked, your NAT type should be Open or Moderate, and your Teredo should be good to go, connectivity should be unblocked.

Nick please do a full Phantom Dust beginners guide, it might be pretty difficult to get used to the game at first and a video with tips and explanations about basic stuff would be very helpful to a lot of new players

Screams in IT Security - Allowing svchost.exe in general to make outside connections would normally not need a firewall exception, unless you want to host as well. But please, for the love of god, not on public connections...

I'm not very well versed in how things actually work, but I'm pretty sure this is a similar issue and fix I've seen playing older video games via computer over the years. Is it due to the games not having a dedicated server, therefore piggybacking off all player's computers?
I was thinking the same thing. If i was to do this how would i revert these changes?
@@DrAzmo it's because the game's multiplayer is peer to peer
that is, there's no server involved* once you're matched, your games are directly communicating with each other
*most modern p2p implementations use a middleman server to get around NAT restrictions, which services like Xbox Live, Steam, PlayStation Network and Nintendo Switch Online provide to developers, but a lot of developers are opting to do it themselves nowadays to allow crossplay
So in Windows, your home ethernet connection can be marked as a "Public Network". I suppose you can make a guide/follow one to ensure your adapter is set as a Private Network. In this day and age, everyone is behind their own hardware firewall so if you're at home on your own secured network, I don't see this as an issue.
I wish this could've came to Steam so non-Windows users could also play this wonderful game.
Telling me that running random code and then allowing a random app through my firewall, is the most effective way to play multiplayer on this underground game that's just sitting there, on the xbox app store, waiting to be downloaded, raises so many red flags, that you're the only person I'd believe it from.
It's 4 netsh commands, and then allowing a Microsoft exe built in to Windows to access the internet, I wouldn't call that random

i think there's also another issue, where you have to download the free DLC, otherwise there's a red circle next to every lobby and you can't join

Allowing svchost through the firewall just seems like a bad idea. A lot of system services use it and it may allow a connection in on another service which could be dangerous.

The Teredo bug can occur on Xbox One S too, if you're using IPv4 wifi. I haven't found a solid fix for this but I'm also the only person I know who has experienced it.

Idk a-lot about the windows firewall but letting svchost.exe through public seems a bit risky to me.
@@nicholaskroeplin81 It might be a better idea to manually mark the network as private, that is usually what I do at home.
@@nicholaskroeplin81 pretty sure Windows asks you to mark it manually when you connect to a new network so if it's set to public then it's entirely your own fault and should go and fix it
The game is absolutely amazing. I'm hooked. But I'm playing on Xbox Series X so I don't have that issue.

Fun fact I had a similar problem with forza and spent 4h fixing it. Good that there's a fix here. I don't if this was what fixed my issue back then (I alsp did stuff line open xbox ports and disabling a teredo block in my router, etc.) but this was definetly one of the fixes I tried so if this enables players to play the game, I like it, definetly better than fixing it for 4h.

If you're on Windows 11 and can't find the Xbox Networking Tab it should be in the Xbox Console Companion app and then under Settings -> Networking

We really need a remake for the Legend of Dragoon. It would be nuts if you did a video on it! I think I'm the only one that has a commentated playthrough that's extremely outdated seeing as how I recorded it 5 years ago. I'm redoing it because of your video about this game specifically. I found 4K remastered cut scenes and decided to look deeper into my emulator to fix other bugs. As we speak on re-recording the entire thing because I want there to be a legitimately good playthrough on UA-cam of the game so that people will want to watch it and experience the game. I'm more amazed that he found a solution in such a short timespan. Sorry I couldn't make the first happy hour! I've ordered a Hyperkin Duke and it's on its way. My only other PC controllers are PS3 and PS4, and idk if this game will display the proper button prompts.

I can't wait to get bodied tomorrow. Played about 20 games online back in 05 after finishing campaign without learning any real strategy. Been going through campaign all week again to refresh.
Once you beat the whole campaign you'll feel alot stronger going online.
I recently faced this problem in a different multiplayer game when a prompt asked if I wanted to allow the program to connect to outside networks. Apparently no was the wrong answer (didn't know what it meant at the time) and I had to go through a bunch of steps to enable this. If I only had this video!

If you're on windows 11 then search for console companion app and you can find it in settings
You should try and find William Kasten, the guy who voiced Max from the Telltale Sam and Max games. Nobody knows who he is, no picture, no info on IMDB, nothing.

I know some people have said this, but as a word of warning do not expose svchost on a public network, as this service is also used for a lot of low-level windows features, not just Teredo. If you have to, disable LAN access.
Otherwise, as long as you're on a private network (like your home) you should be fine, just make sure you define the network properly in network settings as such.

but tunning this command in admin cmd worked for me. now i have a moderate nat type

hopefully the right person gets to see this. ive tried playing this game with piqued interest from ur lil docu-vid on phantom dust. got the game, and friends interested, but havent been able to get past the "could not find a session" message. ive tried everything in the video, and many other niche fixes i could find on the internet to no luck. ive managed to get my nat type to say moderate and server connectivity to say connected, but am still met with the same message. lmk if there is anything i can do. truely did want to play
my friend also followed the same instrustions, and managed to get his working too. very frustrated, and confused at this point

i havent actually tested multiplayer but i had that teredo blocked message and both solutions didnt seem to change this

my nat type says moderate instead of open, i can join some games but is still get a lot of errors when joining ...
I cannot even play the game, I cannot find it in my Xbox app on PC nor can i find it on the Microsoft Store. Found the web browser microsoft store page but as i click on the button to obtain the game, it sends me to my microsoft store app only for the button to not show up there. I'm thinking somehow the game isn't available in my region. Damn shame, watching your video on it made me want to try it out.

And check for connecitivity again
P.S.: Always check 2x for server connectivity, on the first one it will always fail

So I ended up trying this fix, and now I can't even connect to Xbox Live in the game! I try reconnecting, but it gives me the same error message that I can't connect to Xbox Live. How do I change this, or undo the fix?
