It’s a shame Mariusz doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, even amongst some strongman fans, as one of the GOAT’s, as you can tell he loved the sport as much as anyone. Always confused me as to why
perhaps the language barrier plus his 'cocky' confrontational style. Anyway, top 3 GOAT
He got overshadowed by Z. The problem was that Pudz was winning WSM with Z hot on his heels, but when they did IFSA/Arnold and Z was winning Pudz would get left wayyyy behind. It tainted his reputation that he was losing so handily in other contests.
Newer fans to the sport not looking at past results outside of wsm. WSM not having all the top athletes for several years. WSM being a bit ‘lighter’ at the time. But all that said, Pudz is definitely one of the greats.
Mariusz also never “took care of his legacy”. He left to do MMA and basically never got involved with Strongman in any way.
What? He gets way more than he deserves
Mariusz the Dominator was like living statue of a STRONGMAN.
Athletic, aesthetic, powerful, shredded.
Complete beast. Such influence over me and many, many more ppl 👊💪
Pudzianowski brought new quality to strongman such a beast and what a physique.
70% wins in international competitions. Brutal :)
when it's said that Marius doesn't necessarily get the credit he deserves, that's only from the current perspective where people talk about Brian Shaw and big Z. Back in the 2000s, for the average fan, Marius WAS strongman. He was the biggest name and who everybody talked about.
That's only because WSM was on TV and the IFSA wasn't. They had the TV deal so he was the only winner anyone knew about. Being more well known doesn't make you a better athlete or Jake Paul would be the best boxer in the world right now.
@@ZachGatesHere IFSA was on TV. you might even be able to find some on youtube. decent show, very professional
100℅
@@ZachGatesHere they were both on TV but WSM was always the more historically significant and prestigious show. Tbf ZZ chose to compete in the other show for his own reasons. Can’t hold that against pudz
Looking forward to seeing Loz vs Terry, the ultimate 'almost-but-not-quite' showdown
Well...under the right set of events
Ooo
I love watching those old British WSM coverages, where Terry is basically the protagonist and then always gets injured or falls short after having a good run and gets pitied. Tragic.
This comment is brutal. 😂
@@kooroshrostami27 A few yrs there Terry looked like he could have had a chance but yes injury stopped him in his tracks
in any static event, Zydrunas. in any event that requires foot movement/athleticism, Mariusz.
@@r2dadizubz mariusz dominated the yoke and carry events, so idk where you're getting that from.
@@r2dadizubz ??? It’s 3 vs 2 in yoke in favor of Mariusz lol
@@r2dadizubz who said anything about the Arnold’s? 3 vs 2 overall and 3 vs 1 excluding ASC.
Agreed
2:14
Loz: “He missed out in 2001, we won’t get into the reasons why”
Liz: *whispers* “…..he was in prison”
😂 I love these two
What was so impressive about Mariusz was the way he weighed less than any of the men he competed against, and was one of the shortest at around 6'1. Yet was the World strongest man, while being built like a damn MR Olympia/bodybuilder, had one of the biggest, and most defined 6 packs... He was Agile, athletic, had speed... he would literally run with weight, youre not suppose to walk with, and this dude was RUNNING! It was jaw dropping, and what this dude did. Whats crazy is he has the most wins ever with 5.... but if it weren't for him going to prison in 2001, and tearing his calf during competition in 2006, he would of had 7 WSM wins. He's the damn Ronnie Coleman of the WSM world.
On top of all of that, he didnt just win those 5, he DOMINATED! He literally would win almost every damn event. One or two of the years he won the title in the 2nd to last event.... they still had the final event, and he already had the title.... that is pure diomination.
Mariusz has ALWAYS been one of my favorites. He did what was necessary to win based off the events and competition at the time. It's a shame the way most ridicule him.
I thought Mariusz might win but I didn’t think it would be by so much.
I remember watching his first WSM and wondering where the hell this animal had come from!
Woah, I didn't expect such complete domination from Mariusz over Big Z. He's the guy who introduced me to the sport of strongman. I've been a fan ever since!
video idea: strongmen that after retiring proceed with some other interesting career, like Mariusz in mma, Thor and Eddie in social media (influencers? celebrities?) or Magnuss being THE referee xD
There is an older video like that for the 80, 90 and 2000 strongman competitors who changed their lives after retiring
Magnus Sammuelsson as an actor (Clappa in The Last Kingdom) ;)
Thor was literally "The Mountain" on GOT. Nothing any Strongman will do is as cool as that imo
@@cookiemonsteryummy2 literally one of the greatest actors of his generation
Yes yes yes these were the 2 rivals I always enjoyed
Pudz is the greatest WSM champ, but Z is the greatest strongman.
Brian's the greatest WSM champ. Pudz should have an astrix next to 3/5 of his wins because of the IFSA split and Z shouldn't have won in 2010 and 2014.
@@gabbeskillz6262, I mean, Brian and Thor effed up in those years and came within an ear’s shot of winning, but Zydrunas was more consistent and therefore got the win.
@@gotzvonunentberlichingen1452 I know that's how competition works, it's just that Brian didn't drop the bag because he wasn't strong enough and Thor didn't get that extra rep also not because he wasn't strong enough. It just irks me.
@@gabbeskillz6262, definitely. Experience won over both those guys’s power that day.
What a weird thing to say about a sport called strongman, but in context it makes sense.
@@gabbeskillz6262 why 3/5?
In 2008 he came against the strongest competition with prime Poundstone, who beat Z in Fortissimus that year, on top. In 2005 and 2007 it’s very unlikely that Savickas would’ve defeated him in WSM considering their previous record.
I really love this series, it’s nice to go back in the early 2000s comps
Do loz and mr Hollands. That would be an interesting one
Mariusz was so dominant, entertaining with an unbelievable physique and probably the greatest WSM champion of all time!
There was also a team event where they both took part (World’s strongest team 2004). Poland finished 1st and Lithuania 2nd.
People here write a lot of hate towards Mariusz. They write that he is overrated, that he doesn't deserve any good words, that he was weak. What the heck, people? Let me tell you my point of view (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Mariusz was the only strongman who could win WSM, look like a bodybuilder and perform a semi-advanced taekwondo kick at the same time. He could deadlift 400kg which barely anyone could do at his time and 400kg is still considered a huge weight nowadays. He could beat 20kg heavier competitors in static events when it wasn't 1 rep max. He could pull a truck with an achilles tendon injury and win this event... Can you imagine doing 400kg deadlift being 130-140kg? Can you imagine having an achilles injured and go do your 100% in a truck pull to win (or a train, don't remember which one it was)? Can you go back to 2000', beat 10cm taller, 20kg heavier guys in moving heavy weights and do it 40 times in a period of 9 years? Well, he could, and that's why he's a legend of this sport. He was also a wise sportsman, he didn't push it to 100% if he knew that he could save his body a bit. When he needed 5 reps, he stopped at 5, even if he could do 10. If he needed points you could see wild determination in his eyes. He could get into the zone and use his body to its absolute limit. He always competed to win, he always fought to the last event. I think 2002-2007 WSM are the most fun to watch, just to see his obsession. Savickas is the GOAT, but Mariusz is the legend of the sport.
Before watching; Z is the best... but I think Mariusz might take the head to head.
But I'll be interested to see by how much!
In my eyes, light and fast mariusz! Heavy and slow BIG Z!!!!
He deserves credit just for being that strong and that shredded.
In recently re-watching every WSM since they began heats (1994), two things that stood out were how incredibly well Mariusz did in 2009 and how the level of competition he had during the IFSA split was probably a little better than people remember. I know there were a lot of up-and-comers that didn't really pose a threat, so to speak, but there were some really solid ones as well (Pfister, Mitt, Wenta, Dymek, Hollands, etc...) who probably would've done well in any group, split or no split.
Mariusz was less than 2 sec combined on the stones from winning SEVEN.
Even beat shaw before
Shaw was still a rookie at that time
@@CWPWWRESTLING so was Mariusz when he beat Zydrunas (time and time again)
I think we need an interview with Hugo Girard! He seems like he was a great strongman for a name that doesn't come up often!
We already have one. Loz interviewed him a few months back, go check it out. It's worth watching :D
@@tomasondrovic5503 huh, weird, i must have missed it somehow!
Mariusz is is the greatest ever to achieve what he did in only 9 years was second to none!
And all as a "smaller" athlete, at that.
@@morganw.2473 more like no body fat at all
Can you do Magnús Ver Magnússon vs Riku Kiri? Very interesting rivalry, especially the 1996 WSM final where if Riku finished first in power stairs (the last event) he would’ve won the title and he ALWAYS won the stairs by big margin but unfortunately had to withdraw due to injury.
Could I suggest Laurence vs Terry would be very cool to see
Mr.Poland was not just strong, he looked like a bodybuilder ready for the stage, epik!
The crazy part is Zydrunas' first year comps was also at the same time when Oleksii Novikov was born, from there the rest is history 🙂
Awesome vid! for me Mariusz is the greatest all round strongman ever! However, props have to go to all the strongman athlete's at the international competitive level 💪 👏
Pudzianowski brought Strongman to a new LEVEL. How many fans and athletes got to strongman sport because of him. A Legend as well as Big Z.
Mariusz is like 16-8 lifetime vs Zydrunas. All we have to go by, is the times they directly competed against each other.
The format of the Arnold vs WSM from 2003-2009 was WAY too different for any single athlete to win both in one year. As a matter of fact NO ONE won both an Arnold and a WSM in the same year between 2003-2009. Zydrunas did not compete in the Arnold in 2009 and instead focused to win the 2009 WSM. Around 2010 the formats of both contests became much more similar, however it would not be until 2014 that Zydrunas could win both in the same year. Likewise, Mariusz could not win both despite competing in both.
I'd like to also bring up the point that Mariusz competed at the Arnold Strongman Classic in 2006 despite the split between the IFSA and WSM. So, cross competition WAS possible. Mariusz was not avoiding Zydrunas. He did not turn down an opportunity to compete and showed Zydrunas respect by stepping into his house in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Zydrunas and Mariusz were friends and often times could be seen with their arms over each other's shoulders in comradery. I do not know the exact reason why Zydrunas did not come to WSM from 2005-2008 but I am sure there was a good reason. Injury, over training, pressure from IFSA, who knows?
Another great show from Loz and Liz. Always loved watching Mariusz and he truly deserved the nickname Dominator. Big Z was just awesome at the heavy events and broke so many records it beggers belief. Bring on the next one!
Mariusz was a freak, was so well balanced with a mix of athletism and immense strength, was great for repetitions but were he struggled was max static lifts against the likes of Big Z. Big Z statically overall is the strongest that ever lived imo.
Mariusz was my favorite strongman when I was a boy watching the WSM comps on TV. He's definitely one of the GOATs alongside Big Z.
I honestly love these so much! THE best commentary on all things strongman. Please keep it up!
Loving these head to heads
I never knew Hugo won so many contests. I know he placed well in a lot during that time period…
we need an interview
@@narcissus79 There is already a Talking Strongman with Hugo.
Both incredible strongman 💪
The big showdown in 2009 was so amazing for diehard strongman fans. Great video
Really enjoying these videos , Loz is good!!!!!
I just love the way you keep us well informed on the history of the Strongmen and their achievements ! Thank You Loz and Liz on your fun and excitement in each and every broadcast ! ❤️💪🏽🏋🏽♂️🏆
I would have loved to have seen Mariusz vs. Jon-Pall!
And Mariusz is still competing in mma which is always entertaining
love these head to head videos guys
Great content: love what you are putting out.
Z is the normies' GOAT. Pudz is the real GOAT, for anyone that's been watching for the past 20 years. He owned Zydrunas, straight up and no amount of salt can change that.
In terms of competition stats, when they competed, that's fair. However by way of WR's PB's and over all competition wins, its Z all the way.
Love your content. For future vids in this style, would be great to see the "best of the runner-ups", people like Poundstone who were incredible but never topped the podium, and "best of the little guys", looking at people who are more like Kevin Faires than Brian Shaw. Anything that gets people discussed who aren't as frequently mentioned.
When they did the IFSA split that really was what propelled mariusz tho the “most wins”
When youre so early its only in 360p! Can't wait to see who comes out on top.
if I remember correctly Marius was also playing rugby as a hobby during his strongman career. that's why his endurance was at another level to other strongmans
Terrific video.
BOTH ARE LEGENDARY, JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT.
2 Legends of the sport! Great analysis!
You forget about one competition - World Strongest Team 2004 ! :) Poland won ( 61-45,5 points) with Dominator and Jaroslaw Dymek, second Ukraine Big Z and Vilius Petrauskas
Loz you and the wife are such a cool team and both very knowledgeable about the sport! Love it 😀
I like this, you got a new follower!👍
Came to see which one was better head to head, Mariusz or Z.
Found out it was Hugo Girard.
This Strongman trivia-ish style of video is pretty neat. Maybe you guys could have a couple other strongmen on as well to see who knows their sport the best.
I think Mariusz would be an amazing interview.
Really interesting video this one guys
I remember when WSM was on free to air in Australia in 2002 and seeing Mariusz for the 1st time was something special for me as I'm Polish descent but after watching Big Z he is something else
I am excited to be watching this video.
.excellent match up now..this has got to be one of the best..
It would be interesting to see the % success rate of other strongmen. See who else ranks high in professional wins as a percentage of Pro show's competed in.
I was thinking it would be cool to see % of podiums. Pudz's winning percentage is crazy, but I bet he podiumed in close to 90% of the contests he competed in. That consistency is just mindblowing. He didn't have many off days, that's for sure.
@@morganw.2473 - Yeah, that would be great to see too. Maybe that could be added in for a % wins & % podiums. I think Jouka Ahola would be pretty high up the list on both scores
I feel in the 00´s strongman was getting back on his feet and finding it´s motion on strenght sports again, it was trying new stuff and that gave Mariusz an edge, Mariusz was a beast and contrary to popular belive he had a ton of static strenght, but when Strongman came back to lift heavier stuff the shift to Zydrunas was unbelivable, also the competition he face is crazy.
Glad Loz is still gonna compete a bit ,,, Loz is the best announcer,,him and kaz ,,eddies alright to best wishes from Canada you guys are awesome
If you're talking about pure strength Zydrunas is the GOAT. If you're talking about agility, Mariusz is the GOAT. Seriously both were great. Too bad strongman doesn't have the level of funding football has. These guys deserve so much more. Most athletes competing in these have fulltime jobs so can't dedicate themselves the way current stars can. Big Z vs Mariusz is like comparing Jordan v Kobe or Lebron. All are GOATS.
You could do a summary of all the best athletes throughout the years and sum their competitions wins, and their comp appearances. It'd be a nice way to compare the athletes.
Very educational. It’s always implied that mariuz had a free reign with all the big guys not competing against him because of the split. This shows really he was on par with the very best.
13:29 Pudzian dancing at 2004 WSM always cracks me up. :D
Mariusz is true example of sportsman and Strongman! Maybe only one who have such extreme level of power and without belly! When you compare Mariusz vs Savickas vs Hall - Mariusz looks like champion among them...
Goats my ass. Do big Z vs Shaw dude. That's what we wanna see
We did Z vs Brian before this one 👍🏽 ua-cam.com/video/IU5Y5BhUvyc/v-deo.html
How about do Brian Shaw & Hafthor for a head to head.
1x Fortissimus, 2x IFSA, 3x ESM, 4x WSM, 8x Arnold’s Champion. No arguing he’s the greatest.
LONG LIVE THE KING 👑 BIG Z
You can't be tHe GReaTesT if someone owns you in head to head competitions. Kinda like how stupid it is to declare Tom the king of stones when Martins beats him all day everyday.
@@adrianpap1374 except mariusz always did poorly in the Arnold, which used heavier weights and was therefore a better test of strength
Just noticed @big Loz Official that you dont have your website in the video description
It is hard to compare. When the 'made for television' programme, WSM, started out as a carney side show. Its not like its Powerlifting or Olympic weight lifting where events remained the same.
Todays competitors are lifting far more than they did in the 80s.
Back when this started you had guys bending rebar over their heads. Kind of hard to say the winner back then who won based on their arm wrestling event compares to todays winners.
The WSM org needs to reset and create standardized events. Which do not change from year to year. But we already have Powerlifting and OLY. So guess they should keep it as a side show and maybe even exaggerate that aspect moreso.
But Mario was the best in his era and events of the time as Big Z was in his.
The 2 GOAT’s.
Wonderful content yet again 👏
Marius was never the strongest man in the world he just happened to be a bit faster in the lighter events.
Strongest man on the planet is an awesome title, so let's make sure it goes that way in future because people like yourself Loz are an inspiration to us mere mortals. Lots of love to you both and keep up the fantastic content ❤
Wow I didn't know how good Hugo Girard was. I'm glad to see that.
I thought you meant in boxing or MMA when I first read the title, got v worried!
3 parameters: Longevity, titles and world records !!
I got 2 better ones: titles/ years of activity and head to head record.
Marius is the beast period, luv big Z though!🤔😱👌💪💪💪🌶
That was alot of fun, i think in terms of static strength its obvious who wins and in terms of speed or racing events its obvious who wins, but the est all rounder, id be picking Mariusz everytime, but Zydrunas will be remembered for a longer time i think because of the specific feats he did, like being the first to press a 500lb log overhead for example. Mariusz doesnt really have that, he was good at everything and thus won but i cant recall him ever having a forte for a direct strength event.
The 2009 wsm podium is stacked
Mariusz and Zydrunas are both amazing athletes(both still active but Mariusz in MMA where he is still devoted).
I think Big Z is well known as he has provided entertainment for several generations and being at top most of the time.
Mariusz has done one more thing here in Poland. He has popularized strongman sport in Poland. His international succes broth atantion of sponsors and TV. I remember watching strongman competitions in TV every Sunday as a kid. They've even came to my home town for some events where you could feel it. After his era we've had only Krzysztof Radzikowski on top level. And now Mateusz feeling the gap after some years past. And I can imagine that with out Mariusz there would be no Mateusz, but I might be wrong on that.
You are now doing great job with bringing viewers closer to the old(for some 2000 is old :D ) Let's make strongman great again ;) this is such a wonderful sport!
Nice
I’d like to see a review of one hit wonders at WSM and where they are now or what they went on to do. Surely there has been plenty of guys.
I remember it was something about doctors telling mariusz his bones or other bits of the body were getting used too much so he decided to switch to mma
To me if you look at how over 9 years Mariusz kicked his ass constantly, if he had stayed competing for another 5 years, would we even be having this conversation?? cause you know he would have won more shows, where BigZ would have won the static events type shows (Arnolds) , Mariusz would have won the others, maybe even a couple more WSM titles, so yes over 25 years BigZ did more but over 9 years Mariusz was the man, how'd Liz put it, wins 42 of 60 international shows, 70% over 9 years, 5 WSM titles in 9 years etc..to me Mariusz is the G.o.a.t
Facts!!
Looking forward to next one Eddie vs thor
you mentioned that Big Z is still competing in strength shows, Marius is still competing in MMA.
Magnus Samuelsson vs Svend ?
Do we want to see Loz in head to head…. Um yes
Please do this same video with Brain Shaw and Big Z…Would love it! 😍
ua-cam.com/video/IU5Y5BhUvyc/v-deo.html
Thanks Loz and Liz! Love you guys. Hope you and your family are well.
Liz is very knowledgeable, I mean really on point with her strongman knowledge.
Also We would like to see Terry Hollands Vs Uncle Loz. 😅
Even after watching this video there are many people arguing in the comment section about how Mariusz was only dominant in WSM events. No point in being bitter about the facts. The guy was phenomenal in any competition.
Just a quick question, how many times do you need to go head to head with someone, that was 23, head to heads with big z and Mariusz won near on double, end of story 5 wsm titles
