Hey Mark, do you reckon you’ll go to the snug underfloor heating day in the south west? I know it’s a bit of a trek
Mark, you should carry a few endfeed slip couplings. Lifesavers in situations like this..
Mate have you not got a freeze kit ?
Still would have looked better than press.
1 of those jobs you've had a nightmare then you're tidying up got it on heat test then u notice a weap or drip, some jobs make u question why we do this for a living
I could so understand your pain. So glad not only one because when it happens to us DIY ers it knocks us back thinking we are crap and shouldn’t be doing it. Especially when we keep seeing nice polished copper pipe work on line. Well done for explaining too. Looked alright to be far 👍👍👍
Not a problem at all mate, everyone’s done it…. Trust me
Real life plumbing, and not a pot of brasso in sight .
Job done
👍🏼👍🏼
Like always absolutely quality work
Thanks mate 🙏🏼👍🏼
Hi bud, you're right a pain... I'm glad you show us these ones, I really do appreciate your honesty. Top marks. 💯
Thanks Robert…. It’s how it really is😉👍🏼
Bloody good job considering the circumstances. The end justify the means and I'm sure the customer was pleased with the end product. At the end of the day that's what it's all about. I'm new you your channel and loving it, learnt load so far and yes I'm a plumber. Cheers Rob
Hi Mark, I use loctite 577 on the industrial pump manifolds we fit in high rise buildings, the stuff is amazing,
The first time we tried it was on a 4" bsp end cap on a 12bar boosted system, everything else failed to seal it, but the 577 worked perfectly first time.
I really need to give it a go I think
Fair play, looked tricky. I can't solder, use JG speedfit or compression as DIY, this is decent work at pace. Appreciate the professionalism.
Thanks Dan…. 👍🏼👍🏼🙌🏼
You don’t need to justify, been there done that nightmare, but it’s our nightmare and the customer is always happy which is the most important thing, well done mate.
Thanks Lee….🙏🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼👍🏼
Keeping it real, that's why I like your videos. Well done.
Thanks Marco 👍🏼👍🏼🙌🏼
Cheers Mark love your videos and your honesty. You’re one of the good guys and deserve that M2 😄😄😄
Hahaha thanks buddy 😉😉👍🏼👍🏼
That is some good work to get the job done. Not the most elegant but it is functional. You made the best of what you could do in that situation. Once painted people will not even notice it.
Indeed buddy… sometimes you gotta do what you have to
Real World Plumbing, love your channel. No bullshit 👍
I do admire you for your honesty 😂 How many takes 📸👌
We are all human and this is real world plumbing😉
Your Great.
I wish I knew a plumber like you.
Thanks buddy
Hi Mark very good job under the circumstances, in my day in the eighties where we had no water vac and always a limited time before the water came back and always the job at the lowest point in the system and brought back bad memories but like yourself the job had to be done whatever way you could ,great video as all ways keep up the good work mate.
Thank you buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Looks good Mark all the best mate
Thanks Kev… hope your well buddy
Brilliant stuff Mark, keep er lit 👍
Thanks mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Top job as usual mark. The hose is the last thing to go in the van when I'm working on central heating. I'm with you on the liquid ptfe stuff, need to use it but too frightened
Thanks buddy…… never pack the hose away!!!
Screwfix sell a liquid PTFE, by Flomasta. I’ve used it in the past and it has worked. However, I used more than instructed (because you want to be sure, right?) and the cleanup around the edges is a pain. I’ve converted to the loctite thread. It’s great stuff. Just remember to bite the threads with the water pump pliers before applying it. Great video 👍🏻
mine are my adjustable and water pump pilers. it's like wearing lucky underpants. a myth. but if i dont do it ............. that fooking shite i bought at screwfix leaks on final check.
Hi Mark, I've been in the plumbing game coming up for 50 years, I've worked with lead (plumbers joints with a tallow cloth) galvanised iron to copper, stainless steel and now various plastics. I've seen some shoddy pipework in my time and as you quite rightly say, I have done some i'm not proud of especially as you were doing, working between two fixed points. Over all a good job especially as it's all surface pipework. As you say "Real world" keep up the good work mate. R
Thanks buddy…. Just showing the real world, warts and all side of plumbing👌🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hi mark .I think when you refer to the liquid ptfe it is the loctite 577 ,great product especially if you can allow 24hrs to cure ,great on towel rails. I’m one of your older plumbers and always enjoy your vids which I relate to real plumbing . Take care ,regards,Stewart 👍
Thanks Stewart, appreciate the comment👍🏼👍🏼
it absolutely refreshing to see this type of work, as you said, we've all done it when shit hits the fan, we all remember it and think ahh fuck, that job, that finish. But you see on insta and twitter and such of such perfect work in ideal situations or those 3 soldered joints out of a full install and it can really put youngsters coming through on a downer
Well done for keeping it real mate
Thankyou mate, appreciate that buddy👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Mark, great video, my mate once worked with a guy called TJ, his soldering should carry a prison sentence! i was told that his end feed fittings looked like chrome fittings once he was lets loose on them, stay safe mate.
Hahahaaa 👍🏼👍🏼
is great being different in a sense of showing real life plumbing mate, most people will just show what they like.
Thanks buddy, glad you like the content👍🏼👍🏼
Did what you had to do mate, your real and show it how it is on the job, keep it going buddy top stuff 👌
Thankyou Adam 🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼
Another top video Mark 👍
Thanks buddy 🙌🏼🙌🏼
This is what I love about your vlogs, real world, no bs. I can admit that I have done hurried soldering, due to awkward angle of attack and water in the system
We’ve all done it mate, sometimes you have to do these things. Real world Plumbing😉😉👍🏼👍🏼
Great video mark
Thanks 👍
I never liked to see clear water come from a heating system, always made me think there was a leak and continually filling with clean water. But hey I suppose rust inhibitor has come a long way since I was on the tools.
A lot to be said with inhibitor in systems now there’s a bit more info…. It’s not even used in Europe 😉
Great job man 👊 fairplay real world plumbing we do it every day 👍
Thanks buddy👍🏼👍🏼
I'm laughing my ass off at that soldering 🤣
Told you😉
Mint Job Mark! Will look spot on when painted! Such great workmanship, many tradesmen wouldn’t of left it looking anywhere near that neat! Well done, enjoyed the content 😊
Thankyou Matt…. It’s looks spot on now to be fair it’s painted
Hi Mark, real world plumbing, I know exactly what you mean.
You worked with what you had and got the job done, well done as always.
I had a similar conundrum the other day, it wasn’t my nicest looking soldering, but it never leaked.
Great film, take care, regards, Chris.👍👍👍
Thanks Chris….. real world plumbing buddy😉😉
Good one Mark i had a similar job last week and used copper push fit under the rad worked a treat and could not be seen might be a help for you in the future
Yer that was a very last option as I don’t like then on show but sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do….
At least this is painted now😉
Yeah I use tectite fittings occasionally under rads. They're a bit of a secret weapon of mine if I'm in a rush
Set a TikTok account up mate. I remember my first job I did on my own was just like that. I was panicking like mad and it air locked. Spent hours trying to clear it. A mate told me to pull it through at the lowest point. Cleared in mins. Another great one mate.
I have one😉😉
Great vid, proper real life plumbing jobs.
Thanks Simon 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
nice one Mark as long as it don't leak jobs a gooden
Cheers Kev 👍🏼👍🏼
cracking mark we have all done it not sugar coated like a lot of instagram posts keep up the good work as always hope your well buddy 👌👍👊
Thanks Mike…. Yep if you say you haven’t done a job like this your lying… needs must
Your mate definitely owes you a few beers for that headache! 😂
I live in Lichfield, just down the road from the Belfry so I’ll pop over next week and say hello
Indeed he does mate…😉👍🏼👍🏼
Grab a ticket from the link in the description buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
I so get it. Was working in my airing cupboard the other week. It got late, merchants closed, and I had a leak on a soldered joint. Had to take things apart and pull a bend in 22mm copper. Had a full bore 22mm isolating valve that fitted the resulting gap. Banged it in and removed the handle, as it was not installed as a valve. Got the job done. Not textbook, but not leaking either...
Real world plumbing mate……😉👍🏼👍🏼
Hi again Mark, i hope you changed the draincock washer.
Real world as you say. If that water had come back you'd be in the shit.
If the dog didn’t stop for a shit it would of caught the rabbit
It’s all “if’s” mate……… when it does happen it’s how you cope, that’s a real plumber😉
I used to think press fit was not for me , tried it a few times and i would never go back , so much faster and cleaner
Yep exactly the same… I wasn’t a fan but we will see😉
Hi there i think it looks alot better than before, you cant see the green pipe connection its just two straight pipes coming into rad, great job mate.👍
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
👍
1k like - me! 🙌🏻 Good to see real plumbing and thinking…good work and looks ok to me…typical mates job 🤣
The only reason I subscribe to your channel Mark, is because you show it as it is….don’t change mate!
Thanks mate, appreciate that 👍🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
as a gas engineer enjoying the vids mate keep up the good work.
the liquid PTF is really good expensive but good can confirm
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Hello Mark,Its Loctite 577 ,excellent stuff especially on high temperture items.Costs about £35 for 50ml so quite expensive!!
worth every penny though!
Need to give it a try
Been a subscripter for over 18 months now dont normally make a comment, im a plumber myself in the leicester area and I'm the same, rather not have a leak than adding a little to much solder, spot on mate still looks great. 👌🏼
Thanks Ross, appreciate the support and glad you enjoy the channel👍🏼👍🏼
Top video again mark !
Glad you enjoyed it👍🏼👍🏼
Youve done a good job mate dont stress
Thanks buddy👍🏼👍🏼
I personally would have desoldered the elbow coming through the wall and put a new one on facing downwards, and turned my blow lamp down a bit
Yep everyone has a way they would of done it…. Many ways to get a job done👍🏼
Big relief Mark I felt for you - I think I would have worried more about air locks than the soldering
Thanks mate, yep that was next but all went ok👍🏼👍🏼
To be fair mark. It’s not that bad I’ve seen a lot worse than that m8! But as you’ve said there’s times where we all got to do what’s needed.and sometimes we all get overwhelmed by the importance of pipe work looking spectacular than actually just getting it done.paint and wire wool are a wonderful thing😊
Indeed mate….👍🏼👍🏼 gotta do what you gotta do sometimes
FYI, those Nerrad Jet sweats would have been perfect for bunging that tank.. you know what it’s like when the normal bungs dont work. 😉
Never thought about using them as tank bungs, do they work???
@@MJTiffPlumbing never had an issue with them. 15 or 22mm. Further you can go into the pipe the better.
Will give it a go👍🏼👍🏼
Tiff.... reccomend me a half decent complete flush cistern in a box/concealed
Roper Rhodes unit is great
Great job mark fair play a solder that doesn’t leak is a winner in my opinion 👏
Thanks pal 👍🏼👍🏼
All that hassle and agg, tools galore and stress of filling up.
Painter comes along, cup of tea on go, brush, paint kettle job done haha they have the right idea
Hahahaha SO SO true mate
People rip painters lol piss can paint etc but they are doing it the right way lol
Yep, living the dream
The house isn't on fire, that's a win by itself
Hahahaha brilliant 🤣
You got to do what you got to do, we all have done it and still will.👍👍
When draining down in an awkward spot I use a black rubble bag they come on a roll from Sfix. They will hold loads of water and proving you don't snag it you can carry it to outside. I've used this method for over 10 years. It is a "Flexible Bucket" but don't snag it on a gripper rod!! I also use "Liquid ptfe " on rad valve tails, never had one leak yet.
Like it mate 👌🏼👌🏼
Yea''' done that on gripper rod along with fingers, hands, feet and anything else that will snag on that
poxy stuff ....... Retired now still doing it at home though ioi
Dam right😳
Hi Mark, another interesting watch. It would be really helpful to know some tips for obtaining quotes from plumbers and builders and if we should tell them our budget because I never know what to do. If you could even talk about it in a video would be helpful. Catch you on the next one.
Word of mouth seems to do it for me!
Had double glazing installed at a good price from a local company and well pleased. The guy recommended a central heating installer that he used and lo and behold.... perfect. Decent price and clean tidy installation.
Now the plumber recommended an electrician to replace my ageing fuse box so here's hoping!
I will see what I can do, what is it your actually after??
@@MJTiffPlumbing Expensive jobs for example a full bathroom refurbishment. We are often asked what our budget is and I’m not sure if we should say in case people want to overcharge or even if we should negotiate a quote.
Some Tiffs top tips for when tradesman come around to quote would be really helpful, are there certain questions we should be asking and what to look out for. Thanks in advance.
@@wfalzon5121 when a plumber/bathroom fitter asks your budget it is normally to get an idea of what kind of job you are after and to what extent, also to see if you have an understanding of the kind of costs involved before proceeding with wasting time doing a quote etc only for the customer to say that’s way out of budget
i just pulled the floor up in my bathroom and needed to move the pipe work to fit the new towel rad, never done any soldering before but man getting under the floor and having to cut route and then solder the pipes under the floor right up next to a joist next to a wall was a nightmare. didn't help that there was a holding spot on the pipework where it wouldn't drain so i had to solder a pipe that was half full of water and was spitting out hot water while i'm doing it.
sometimes you just come up against a pain in the arse, fortunately all the seals have held and i don't have to look at it again... set fire to the joist a few times though because it was so tight against the joist i couldn't get the mat in there to cover it
Hahahah welcome to my world
WOW what a mega awkward job well done nice kitchen.👍👍👍😎😎😎🚘🚘🚘
Thanks mate….. yer the kitchen is spot on
The amount of times I wished I had used compression fittings.
Would of looked nasty on this I think….
We all do our best with soldering but you know we get runs once in a while and who cares. 90% of customers paint pipework or box it in and it's only us plumbers who admire beautiful soldering.....what matters is it doesn't leak now or in the future. I've so many soldering fails where you can barely see the ring and when it comes to the test it drops
From a fellow tradesmen (carpenter) that spent 30 years learning every other trade.
Tip:
I would of pre-soldered all the joints first before fitting to existing pipework.
Then fit to existing pipework where you've only just got two solder joints to do.
I always have a wet cloth to smooth around joints as I solder them so they look perfect.
Or:
Solder all the joints but leave the last one open to expel any steam or water left in pipe.
Then you've just got one solder joint to do and minimal risk of water cooling joint before solder takes hold.
You said you had a wet vac?...suck any excess water in pipes with that.
We all do stuff different👍🏼👍🏼
And to learn every other trade in 30 years!!!!!…… Ive been plumbing for 27years and still don’t know it all, never will…… your special 🤣👍🏼
This is sound advice. I don’t think this is a channel to teach people anything. It’s just about watching a plumber struggle through their day for entertainment.
Great vid mate
I was stressed big time yesterday
New rad so pipes needed adjusting
Micro bore 10 mm with set going into new one so no straight bit really to put fitting onto and really thick paint on pipe so spent ages cleaning it
Lst the one fitting leaked twice on me and had to leave them the night with no heating as had no more fittings on van
Couldn’t sleep and had to sort it next day first thing by taking skirting off and cutting it back
Mega stressful and annoying
What a pain ! What time did you start ? Initially ? I have a rule unless an emergency job, I don’t take on plumbing work after a certain time of day. It’s just not worth the headache mate.
Nightmare mate…
You done nice extra solder don’t kill anyone, I always do double soldering on central heating.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Love it mark real life situations mate 👌👌 excellent job 👍👍 like your say once the pipes are painted jobs a good en 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks mate, yep it looks spot on now it’s painted👍🏼👍🏼
Don't have to explain yourself mate.
Nothing wrong with the work you do.
Imo it's always spot on mate.
Better then having ugly push fittings and compression fittings on show.
Exactly my thoughts mate…. Thanks buddy👍🏼👍🏼
Nothing wrong with that at all. Got the job done perfectly well. Plumbers love to see perfect pipework and soldering but most customers won’t even notice the difference.
Thanks mate 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
That was a right royal pain that pipe, well done Tiffy it looked fine to me. Can I ask why you don't use Yorkshire (solder-ring) fittings as opposed to end-feed? Mightve made your life a little bit easier under that rad?
Thanks as always.
I personally am not a fan of Yorkshire fittings…
I no what it's like mark good job
Thanks mate 🙌🏼🙌🏼👍🏼
should have fitted a drain tap incase of problems
This was upstairs mate
When there is some water about yellow mapp gas is better as its much hotter, has the ability to boil off a lil bit of water before it gets near the joint and gets the joint up to temp faster. Just make sure you have some soldering mat to protect the walls as it will char the decor quicker too. If this was 22mm and you had a few drops coming through that propane would have left you high and dry.. Good work in a real world situation nevertheless. Ive learnt all my lessons the hard way too so been through some wars and a hell of a lot of trial and error.. Still learning 25 years later lol
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Loctite 577 is great mate never had a leak from it 👍
Need to try it
Well done, Mark. Any soldering you can walk away from (with no leaks) is good soldering!!
I like that mate…. I’m gonna use it😉👍🏼👍🏼
🤣Stop it, you're killing me. Sound like my dad. "you solder son, you never get any leaks".
I prefer to see a bit of solder running down the pipe than water
Dead water, every plumbers nightmare , well done Mark, like you said we’ve all been there. 🤪👍
Thanks mate…. The Bain of our job sometimes
Had one of them yesterday trying get that to run is a nightmare who cares what it looks like it doesn’t leak paint covers it up
Indeed mate 👍🏼👍🏼
No worries. I've done worse. Most important, no leaks and it's being painted. Job done. Well done.
What blow torch do you recommend? Thanks
Rothenberg super fire 2👍🏼
nice fix on a pain of a job,i have had them too,had lead pipe ,leak by a staffy ,he lock jaw on it ,that was fun ,stop tap seized too, turn water off out in street ,lead lock sort that one out ,had radiators not fully drain, small puddles water, tried bread trick ,not work, was going to go push fit ,but looks shit,so fitted service valves ,cut pipes were enter room, fit service valves, then can turn water back on,and carry on with the job, isolate my bit ,had a wet room,a right shit storm ,leaks and hard to solder,so cut 3 pipes to room, cold, flow and return ,got 3 service valves fitted ,shut off wet room, house back online ,had cup tea, then carry on lol,i fit them every were now, councal house got 1950 lead pipes and non working shut off valves ,so turn off in street,by front gate, then cut above the lead valve, fit stop valve ,turn water back on ,works sweet ,to show real world is the best ,as people not understand what you got put up with ,stress, floods ,college man said i teach you the basic ,but you will learn in the real world, under floor boards, nails, cables, gas leaks ,he was right ,still learning now ,every day ,love your stuff, you same as me ,too honest too, cant help it ,how i was raised,i have not got time to film my jobs ,hotels ,houses, factorys, but i have seen some mad stuff ,here in bristol, did moterway service station yesterday, blocked toilets, that was fun ,get to see ,go places ,plumbing ,get lot work of the sparks, hit nails on floor boards, keeps me busy ,your vids help the new lads, fresh out of collage ,real work, solutions,
Thanks Richard…. Sounds like you get some good jobs buddy
I just use a speedfit cap on the vent instead of the Bung. But then I would Bung the tank.
But tbf If you drained it. Pop a leaver on the feed. You've made a way better vaccume.

God job mate. How come you've changed your thermal imaging camera? Thought you were using the Hikmicro E1?
This is the New HikMicro Pocket 2😉😉👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing oooh, interesting. I’ve just put the E1 on my Xmas list with your discount code! Do you have a preference? If so why?

Nice work mate, beginning to become my favourite plumbing channel on here 👌🏼
Thanks buddy…. Appreciate that👍🏼👍🏼
Awkward job mark, but you made it look great, well done 👍atb
Thanks Adam👍🏼👍🏼
Great video mark. We have all had one of those jobs what are a pain in the bum. We’re did you get your thermal heater camera from. Keep up the great work.
Thanks mate… it’s a HikMicro Pocket 2
@@MJTiffPlumbing ok mate thanks.
Nothing worse than water in a pipe your trying to solder, a tee and drain off might have been a bit easier than that elbow mate, thank god it's not just me that suffers, keep up with the great content mate
We all suffer sometimes mate, gotta do what we gotta do👍🏼
I've often thought about getting a set of Nerrad jet set tools to help with such work but never bought them.
Never seen them to be honest mate
Sorry they are called jet swet, they look a great idea
They’re expensive!
@@gregp1707 yes @£75 they are that's y I've never bought them. But considering the greif they would save you. I've been tempted many times
Good point. When you’re in the poo you’d pay anything to take the hassle away. Time for an investment maybe
What would you think of fitting a tee between 2 slip couplings if you have all fixed points. Cut 10cm of pipe send put 2 slip couplings with 2 pieces of pipe and a tee, fit them slide the couplings and solder?
Yep that would work…. Always a number of ways of doing jobs
@@MJTiffPlumbing thanks for your feedback, I believe that would be quicker than having 2 cut top and bottom pipe, of course if you never run out of those fittings with you
Mapp or acetylene instead of propane when there’s water present helps solder faster(neater?)

Hi Mark, I just started doing jobs on my own but I'm struggling to quote the jobs right when they go wrong, any suggestions? Can you explain how you deal with pricing jobs? Thanks! Hope you will get to 20k subscribers this year, you're doing a great job!
Depends what you mean by going wrong.
If you do stuff wrong and make a job of it, there’s nothing wrong with the quote.
But, more likely, you mean that you come across extra things that need fixing. This is normal. When you quote you write down what the price includes. If you have to do extra work you tell the customer as soon as you come across the issue and explain that this is extra and you can give them an idea of extra cost if they want to know.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your plumbing.
Oh mate, it’s something that you just learn along the way… I will talk about it in an upcoming video soon😉👍🏼
you quote, in most cases you honour the quote. its on you! if a job takes 8 hours instead of the 2 you quoted for you take the hit. you can always explain to customer this took longer than i quoted, some people are nice. some people are not. as mark webb says write down what your quote includes if you have any fears exclude them in your quote, noterise it. build your customer base. word of mouth advertising is better than any any google, yell etc if your sole trader. if your honest.
I hate water in the pipe more than my ex .
I love the phrase for fuck sake
🤣🤣🤣
I was lucky enough to retire 15 years ago mate at the young age of 48 but I did worse soldering on a bad day. I notice you use blue gas bottle and so do I. Tried Map gas once but you really don't need that high temperature for plumbing. They say it will solder damp or even wet pipes but who would even try to do that ?. Watched one of your older vids today where you changed that crazy immersion heater that you had to feed it into the loft before it would come out. I've been there mate. I used to give the spanner a crack with a lump hammer if the heater wouldn't move. You only need one gentle crack with the lump hammer as it has plenty of weight behind it, where as with an ordinary hammer you could be banging at it all day long. Great days.
Thanks mate, glad you enjoy the content…. Appreciate it coming from an old school plumber like yourself🙏🏼🙏🏼
Mark why did you not use a shorter rad 700mm high to give same ouput.
If i think i am going to get a trickle of water i push bread down the pipe.
Because the customer didn’t want a high rad and wanted it longer as I fitted 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Mark, your mate never went for a designer rad then 😂😂 don’t knock yourself, you got the job done and looks decent 👍🏻
Thank god…..😉😉👍🏼
