    Excellent video Ben! I just got my Ortur Aufero Laser 2 and need to put together a video myself.
    I am most interested in the air assist, I just learned about that. Is it a kit you added on, or an official part?
    I am also excited for the rail expansion kit I am seeing.

    • @DreadMakerRoberts

      It’s a official part. I could design up a 3d print quick enough for you though. Did you get the long focus, short focus, or both? The rail expansion kit is a good thing for sure but I have some extrusion on hand here and think I can expand it without the kit

    What settings did you use to make it cut this fast?
    Mine is only marking the cardboard and going about 10x as slow.

    • @DreadMakerRoberts
      @DreadMakerRoberts  2 роки тому

      There are a few things that need to be done to get this speed. 1. Air assist. 2. Do you have a LF (long focus) module or the SF (short focus) module? The long focus is by far the best one for cutting. Last is to make sure your focus is spot on. Other than that is is usually 100% power and figuring out the appropriate speed to cut. Sometimes with multiple passes.

    would it work for the smoke if I were to hook up to my dust collection system? system is all still within my garage, but has the 5 micron filter bag (for whatever that's worth). and do you have a pattern for the base that you made available? likely to order one of these very soon and wanting to cover all my bases!
    edit; after posing the question above, I noticed the link to the pattern for the base

    • @DreadMakerRoberts
      @DreadMakerRoberts  2 роки тому +1

      I would hesitate attaching the dust collection to anything that potentially is a spark or ember. The laser could in a bad situation create a ember and have it go through into the dust. This would be a explosive and fire hazard.

    I am having a great deal of difficulty using the riser files. they download as a DXF file and I don't have anything to open such a file. the software I got for the cutter (LaserGRBL) won't open a DXF file. so I went to Microsoft store (they mostly provide viewers) but after some fumbling around found an app that will convert dxf to svg (a file format the software can open). problem is, when I tried to print, it was like twice the size.
    in other words, can you help me out?

    well huh. didn't realize we were at this point, first/last engraver I bought was one of those 80-120 dollar built on what I'm pretty sure was a optical drive sliding tray lasers, which actually worked really well for small wooden parts, with the most powerful of that range only being about 400 bucks, that seems like a good deal. just wish they'd put the work area on the specs area of the listing.

    This paper honey-comb grid will be cut through like hell. it should be made of metal... but the leaser cannot cut that...

    • @DreadMakerRoberts
      @DreadMakerRoberts  2 роки тому

      One would think so, and I would have agreed with you a week ago. I figured I would test the design on cardboard and then move to a more robust material. Given how well it has performed over the week I hardly see any damage. I do need more testing and see how it manages over time. Anyhow in short it actually holds up better than you would think. Given how cheap it is and how many boxes I get over a month it is a near free solution for making risers

    • @bacsijancsi
      @bacsijancsi 2 роки тому +1

      @@DreadMakerRoberts Hmmm Ok but it surely has to be redone sometimes. Well I don't know about this laser I started with an Atomstack A5 Pro (still have it) and suffered a lot with cutting (slooow speed, fume, lack of airsupport, 2mm distance from tha material (not really enough) that was also a 5,5W diode laser. And than I bit the bullet and bought a 50W CO2 laser and the difference is.... well really day and night!!! You just cannot compare the two. It is possible that the more modern diode lasers are better but.. As I measured the 50W CO2 really 10X faster, it has airsupport, real honeycomb grid made of metal it is motorized and smoke suction etc... I really don't want to hurt anybodies feelings but if you really want to cut just forget the diode lasers, they are not capable of serious cutting.... that is the truth.... I tried it...

    • @DreadMakerRoberts
      @DreadMakerRoberts  2 роки тому

      @@bacsijancsi Totally agree on this, no hurt feelings at all. You make good points. However like you mentioned the new diode lasers and the air assist with a long focus module definitely are decent tools. I figure 1/3 the power of a 40W Co2. That being said this one is so easy to use that I have found over the last week that I have not touched my Co2 which I generally use daily. For light stuff and engraving it cannot be beat.

    • @bacsijancsi
      @bacsijancsi 2 роки тому

      @@DreadMakerRoberts Well it is OK for paper, textile...light materials and foam, but the fume suction is still a problem especially with PVC foam (there is Chlorid) It cannot cut see-through Acril which cuts beautifully with CO2. Air support is solvable but every one has to built a box for it I think and build a suction solution (some Chinese company started to even do it for a nice price :-) I did it, and yes it needs some kind of honey comb bad or bad of nails (I also did that), even that is not perfect because of the smoke has to be sucked out from down... and that 2mm clearence from the material is a bigger problem than anyone anticipate. One thing is true the cutting curfe is wider with CO2 (about 0,1mm) it is less with diode lasers so there might be less fuem... Still as I used it in my studio with 3mm plywood cutting a complicated thing I had to leave the room I cannot see after a while because of the smoke....
