Kurt Vonnegut's science fiction odyssey is both poignant and absurd, just as it is wildly fictitious and tragically real. Its protagonist, Billy Pilgrim, has quite an extraordinary life, surviving captivity in World War 2, witnessing the firebombing of Dresden (which he survived by sheltering in the titular slaughterhouse) and being abducted by weird little aliens who put him in a zoo and want to observe human mating rituals...
