- Sam Fitness did not anticipate that climbing up a tree on a summer's evening with friends would result in him living the rest of his life as a C5 complete tetraplegic. For Sam, life now is all about patience. Day-to-day activities take much longer, but as a keen fisherman Sam is no stranger to the waiting game. Six years on from his accident, he's discovered ingenious ways to wish - with a drone. Resilient and motivated, he has also travelled through Europe and is connecting with sport again through wheelchair rugby. He is continuing to strive, patiently, for independence. / attitudepictures

You're an awesome inspiration young Sam! You have an incredible attitude and I love the fact that you fish. It's quite therapeutic.
I got hurt myself at age 38 in a motorcycle accident in 2001. I spent 4 months in the hospital and rehab before reluctantly going home. I still remember the anxiety of leaving the hospital and my medical support system. The loss of my body started my search for Spiritual answers and I've found many of those answers. Me and you and those like us know how very short that this physical life is. These bodies are mere temporal vessels that house our eternal Spirits. The most important thing to understand is that we are eternal beings that will never stop existing. Our physical death is only a transition.

Sam, I am from Greece, with a different disabiliti (mainly blindness), and have done a lot of travelling, like you --been also to your fascinating country, NZ….:)
It’s been wonderful to meet you through this video, and I believe your attitude to live can inspire people with all sorts of disabilities.
Most have no idea what life with SCI is like...if they did, they more than likely would not do so many risky things. My wife suffered a C4/C5 incomplete in '06 due to a car accident. Her life is very hard, especially as she ages. So many things are difficult for her, but she perseveres as do you. Great to see how you are doing and how active you are. SCI not only affects the person with it but also those who surround the person in the chair supporting them. Hopefully, some of the newer technology will alleviate those who struggle with this most burdensome condition. Sadly, I'm not sure we will see it in our lifetime...hopefully you will. Thanks for being a positive voice in the SCI community.
