People this is a partial flush. The torque converter and valve body still have old fluid laying around. If you don't want to disconnect lines or pay to have your transmission flushed, I would recommend doing what this guy did except once you're done, repeat this step again after you have driven your car around for about 30miles. A true flush pushes all the fluid out of the entire cooling system and torque converter while the car is running. NOTE: FYI The 2010 Traverse and newer, has an internal transmission filter. You can no longer change the transmission filter with a new gasket like the old models, the trans must betaken apart in order to change the filter.
If it was a full flush, he would've changed out 9.5 qts of fluid. (That's what GM, specs claim for Tranny fluid capacity. Torque converter/transmission)
In my high school auto class, my instructor said people just turn their car engines on and think that's enough to check the transmission fluid. He said you need to actually drive the car around for 20+ mins to warm up the actual transmission, hence the transmission fluid. Also, putting in the same amount of fluid ASSUMES your car didn't come with low transmission fluid from the manufacturer, or that there's not a leak or Jiffy Lube didn't close your dip stick cover not tight enough, allowing liquid to seep out at high speeds. Always drive the car around and then check the transmission fluid level while the car engine is running and in park.
For all the bad comments here. Omg relax ..I understood what he meant ..I drove mine about 5000 miles and did it again with some Lucas 2nd time. 183,000 runs like a champ
My 2015 gmc acadia only had 3 quarts is that right?? Its was shuddering i did a flush and refill put 4 quarts and it is much smother shudders almmost gone
On my 2011 Chevy traverse my RPM on the cluster board is going bad and my question is better RPM going bad on that cluster do that affect the transmission speed cuz I'm about to change the cluster board I have a code p2714 if I change the fluid I will that help
My wife has a 2018 Traverse. It’s very similar to this but hers doesn’t come with a dipstick. How can I check the level without it? The owner’s manual only says to take it to the dealer. Ugh!
David Sawyer from my experience with gm sealed transmissions, it should have another plug somewhere. You'll have to have the trans temp between 190-200 degrees then pull the top plug. When fluid is coming out it's full. Good luck, hope this helps.
There is a Bolt that looks like the drainplug on the side of the transmission next to the Half shaft. The fluid should be at the bottom of that hole. Vehicle must be level.
A flush requires the trans cooler return line to be removed, start the engine, let the trans pump out about a gallon, stop engine, add 1 gal of fresh fluid, and continue this process until you see fresh fluid coming out of the return line. This works for pretty much any vehicle and removes almost all of the old fluid.
As far as I know that’s just for the 8L90 (8 speed) transmission used in GM trucks and full size suv’s . I used dex 6 on my Buick, did two drain and fills within 30 days. No shudder at all.
Can’t find anything on the 6 speeds needing Mobile ATF to fix a torque converter shudder. Service bulletin 20-NA-242 (6l80 6l90) is the latest thing that popped up regarding torque converter shudder in 6 speeds, says nothing about changing to Mobile ATF. Service bulletin 18-NA-358 refers to this transmission in particular in this video. 2014-2019 model years, so not this guy’s transmission. Also says nothing about switching to Mobile ATF. It’s just the 8 speed 8L90.
@@seansshed3729 The filter is meant to last the whole life of the vehicle.. If that filter fails, it will be because the transmission failed.. Transmission fluid is a detergent not a oil. It is not a poor design, you just don't know what your talking about.
So you drained 3 maybe 4 quarts out of 6 and then just filled it back up. What about all the rest of the dirty fluid you left in there. What you did was completely pointless dumping clean fluid into dirty fluid.
Studies have shown that complete flushes can cause problems with clutches in trans and cause slippage and pre mature failure of tranny's. Do the research. They recommend that you do multiple drain and fills in a short period of time until it comes out clean.

Yes sir.. u r correct
I am Certified GM technician. You are 100% correct!
I have an 09 traverse do they internal transmission filter..I've been searching no luck it says yes then no ..I keep getting code solenoid

Lucas transmission oil or Lucas additive?
wow, nice to see a vehicle that still has a trans dipstick.

Thanks Sean for video.. assume it’s the same for a 2017?
Yes the exact process
Yes the exact process
Great Video Bro 💯💯💯
Should the car be leveled?
yes
On my Buick i drained 6 qts and added 7 back in. The level was low on the dip stick before I drained it. No leaks though, weird.
Never get a actual transmission flush unless it has been done regularly since new. Personally would never get a flush just change twice. GOOD LUCK!!
Seems easier than an oil change, why do places charge over $300.00???
Because they can rip you off
Because they are doing a flush not a drain and fill.
When is best to do a flush on your transmission How many months
Whatever the user's manual says, do it like 15-20K miles SOONER, especially if you tow a lot, or do a lot of stop and go.
Helped me change mine, big thanks
Thank you so much! Your video was excellent...👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

David.. I saw a video explaining the same thing what Long-dong said

Pump it out.
Was this a drain and fill or complete flush? Im thinking it takes more than 5 quarts on tran oil
A flush requires the trans cooler return line to be removed, start the engine, let the trans pump out about a gallon, stop engine, add 1 gal of fresh fluid, and continue this process until you see fresh fluid coming out of the return line. Hey bro that’s a fluid change not a flush. A flush is when you flush the torque converter old oil out too.
do we need to change the filter too?
The filter is internal on these. You have to take the transmission apart to get to the filter
Thank you🙏.
This car is a complete 🍋
I run Marvels Mystery Oil only in my transmission...
How many miles do you have on it? What year
130k miles but i suggest doing it every 60k. We did the change on a 2010.
I have a 2013 Traverse is the flush procedure the same as you've demonstrated in this video?
its 50 thousand not 60.
Owners manual (at least in the Enclave) says 45,000 miles for severe duty.
My 2010 GMC Acadia just dumped all 9.5 quarts
Do not use Dexron 6,use the Mobil 1 ATF that replaces the dexron 6.Finding out the dexron 6 is causing torque converter shudders

I hate when people spout off nonsense. How about you just use what the manufacturer suggests
Nice job, does it have transmission fluid filter ?
It does, but the filter can only be changed if you take the transmission off. Poor design.
Like the man said, you have to split the case to change the filter.

Hello let me correct you you are not flushing the system you are servicing drain and fill. Ok
This transmission has 6 litters or 6.3 q of transmission fluid. There are also two drain plugs not one. Fast but not complete
try 9.5q
Let's see you squeeze every drop from the torque converter.... 🤦
According to the owners manual its 5.3 q
@@SgtPicklediconly if you completely remove every ounce of fluid, from converter and trans
This is not a flush... this is drain and fill..good video though
not a flush.....lots of fluid still in the torque converter.
To completely flush the system transmission shops have a machine that circulates fluid to completely flush it..
This is a drain and fill
So you drained 3 maybe 4 quarts out of 6 and then just filled it back up. What about all the rest of the dirty fluid you left in there. What you did was completely pointless dumping clean fluid into dirty fluid.
It's better than nothing.
This vehicle holds 9.5 quarts of transmission fluid.
Studies have shown that complete flushes can cause problems with clutches in trans and cause slippage and pre mature failure of tranny's. Do the research. They recommend that you do multiple drain and fills in a short period of time until it comes out clean.
If going this route, you want to do this again after driving like 100+ miles, and then possibly a third time.
Lol he stated he emptied 5 quarts. Omg.
Drain, not flush
9.5 qts in these so changing 5 don't cut it.
