VERY, VERY helpful!!!! I especially love the part about not letting past failures impact current performance. As a undergraduate who started college 4 years early (and during COVID when school was online) I definitely need some tips on how to deal with exams.

You're a very articulate, clear and just a great speaker overall. I wonder if making a video about Presentations/Speech confidence is relevant to your channel content, but it would be great to hear tips and tricks that you have :)
Hulyn Provido He probably writes a script before hand and practices. I used to work for a medical software company where I would have to train large groups of people and during my own training for this we has a public speaking session and the biggest take away I ever got was to do lots of dry runs. Practice your speech a bunch of time. This makes you 100% better and more confident when you go to do the actually presentation. Hope that helps.
Clarissa Oh I see, thank you for your tip. I'm just a naturally anxious person when it comes to presentations, and I know everyone gets anxious but even with practice and stuff, I always stumble or choke over my words or forget what I was meant to say...its pretty embarrassing. I guess some people are naturally talented with public speaking :P
Hulyn Provido I'll definitely do a video on that soon - probably the month after I get back from Japan :) - one thing I'll say now is that speaking ability doesn't come naturally! I had to practice a lot, both to get over nerves and a tendency to not speak clearly. Before making videos, I got practice through leadership positions in clubs, taking speech classes (I was a speech minor for a while, though I didn't finish with it), and starting a podcast. The biggest tip is simply to get out and speak :)
Clarissa it really depends on the complexity of the topic and my familiarity with it. For most videos, I create a bullet list in Evernote and then film it without much practice. More detailed videos might have certain sections that are scripted out, though I don't think I've ever fully scripted a video. This one was about 1/3 script, 2/3 bullet points. For some videos, I'll also run through the script while walking through the neighborhood, or record an impromptu speech on the topic while driving. For actual live speaking, I agree 100% with you - if I'm speaking at an event, I'll practice my material over and over beforehand. I usually record myself practice as well, so I can catch anything I do wrong without knowing (verbal tics, pacing, etc)
Thomas Frank Great, I would really love to see that video! Yeah, I think my biggest barrier to being a good speaker is my fear of actually going out and speaking >.< Nothing terrifies me more than presentations and public speaking, but since I'm going to university soon and know that I have to do presentations every now and again, I really improve! Thanks for your tip though ^_^
Thomas Frank! I wanted to thank you, this episode really helped me through my comprehensive exams. "A test does not define you" and going in with the confidence that I will do good really helped. thank you again :-)
Guys look if you are suffering in ANY and i mean ANY material in school don't panic. Just focus on your studies next year. And be always positive. And if you have test anxiety. Just know that the less stressed you are the better of a grade you will get. In my case it was maths. I was STRUGGLING SO HARD. By the first semester i was getting a max of 11/20 on my maths which is just a notch above average, and i Thought i was doing my best and that i would never get any better,. But with that i pushed myself to study 10 times harder and pay more attention in class. And before you know it by the end of the year i was easily getting 18/20 which is excellent. Look i thought i was bad at maths im not joking, i thought i was bad at every class and not get any better in anything i was scared, there was tears, but work hard and smart and EVERYTHING will pay off trust me. Come on you got it, i know you do. Sleep well and have a positive mind. Everything will be okay. May god be with you 🙏
I did not get the required average that my school needed. I only need one point to pass my subject(math). Tomorrow I will take the final exam to pass.I don't know about my other subjects but my confident that I will pass. 🙏🙏🙏 Just pray and be confident about yourself and god Thank you for the advice
Excellent advice as always, thank you! Just now seeing this 6+ yrs later and it is STILL relevant! This definitely applies to all grade levels, the MCAT, & beyond.
I can't tell you how much this helps me feel better about my tests. I'm good at math. I always have been. Then I took calculus. The only time I did poorly was tests, when it mattered. I'm totally adding some of these.
I think my fear is the stakes and fear of failing as my uni tuition fees are pretty high too and I'm always scared that I'll get kicked out one day as I had to do resits a few times have been literally "surviving" up until now in 4th year (out of 5). I feel so envious when I see some of my classmates get honours and fly through everything like it's nothing while I'm struggling to meet the pass mark.
Thank you so much for this video! I really wish I found your channel sooner because during high school I was having a bad time with the content - especially exams and stressed myself out so much and tried to achieve perfectionism. Which didn't go too well physically and mentally, however luckily I got into college and now trying to improve on my past habits!Your videos are just the boost I need for getting good results in college! I can't even explain how incredibly useful this is- just watching this was soothing and makes me feel better. You're right, it's just a test :) new subscriber, love the concept of your channel! Where have you been the past two years of my college life?!
i read about writing how you feel before a test in the book '' the power of habits''. i have tried that and it real works. thanks for this video. have a great day

Your channel is really helpful. I'm a pharmacy student I was struggling with my studies at first but with your tips my grades are getting so much better and everything is getting easier . Thank you for your help.
I love your channel man!!! Btw, my strategy for any test is just to aim for a perfect score. That helps me boost my test grades. I used to just take tests for the heck of it without care. That’s why my test scores in college were lower than I wanted. Since last year, I’ve strategized on “Aim for the perfect score” on tests. Even though I don’t get perfect test scores every time, but it definitely helps. To prove it, I’ve taken an exam where I didn’t study at all because I was busy unfortunately. Fortunately, I got a C in it because I had the confidence to aim for the perfect score on the test. So instead of worrying about failing the test because I lacked studying, I just aimed for the perfect score instead and tried my best. It works for me, however, everyone is different.
Thank you so much for you're video. I have the worse Test anxiety and I actually ending up failing but with your helps actually helped me I have a test Monday I will let you know how it goes

Thanks for the video. I was really worried because I cannot perform well in the exams like how I do in my assignments and quizzes. Even the percentage varies more when compared to my classworks. This video really gave me an idea on how to deal with things.
There. You said it. Working diligently throughout the semester. I didn't do that. I slacked off all semester and now I'm foolishly lazing around when my finals are next week. Last minute studying is a really bad idea. Work needs to be carried progressively, not all at once while preparing for finals. I'll still try to save this semester... even though I'm already burned out.
I have exams all week, I'm not in college I'm in year 10 but I really want to do well I live in Australia and I'm leaving this year, these are my last exams ever ! I came on here to look up videos about Mac Beth for English but oh my god I'm watching every single video this guy has ever made. So helpful

I made this comment when I did my half yearlys I just did my yearlys You'll be fine x at the end of the day a mark can't and won't define you or your future Do what you can !
I really hope this helps me, I have my SAT's soon, and I've got a whole week of all test in front of me. And it also annoy's me of how worried I get, but I get a good score.
I must say it really helped me to get rid of my stress, there is a test tomorrow for me and before this video i was Horrified that I'll fail but this video really helped me and i feel more prepared, I don't expect perfection although it would be nice to see an A+ on that paper but now i feel less scared so i don't care, basically I can't thank you enough for that video.
I swear i was so stressed and just bursted out crying because i have the idea that i am not good enough or that im not smart enough and why would i even get a high score there are so many smart students other than me so why would i even get a high score or be able to answer the questions 💔 this breaks my hearts
I study mechanical engineering at my country's best uni and can be really difficult sometimes. What helps me before the test is to just go for a 15min walk to clear my head, drink a peppermint tea, focus on my breathing (deep breaths) and pretend like it's not an actual test and more like a prep-test, even when it's a really important one. That way, I don't fell so nervous and I perform much better. Also, I sometimes smoke a small joint the night before to lower my stress levels and I generally sleep much better when high so I feel really rested the following day, but that depends on the person and if you don't usually smoke weed, I suggest you don't start just because of test anxiety
I had my mid terms just 1 day ago and i did prepare 50/50 but cause of the stress, anxiety and fear i forgot everything when i went to my class and that made me.. cry. Asked my parents about it and asked for some advice on how to get rid of the anxiety- well they told me "its just one exam, it wont end your life if you fail, dont worry and write whatever you know" and at first it was kinda hard but later on during the exam i felt relieved cuz i knew its not the end, its just a small fail. One tip is to just know that if you havent prepared well or scared for exam, do your best just write down whatever you remember but dont let this follow! Yall can do this and im in the journey with you guys!! :)
I can't sleep because of fear that I won't score 100% on my tests, and during the test my hands are so shaky and sweaty I can't even grip my pen properly. Not to mention all the information just pulling a John Cena in my head right before the exam. Right... let's not forget the tears too :D
Tomorrow I have a French test and I’m so lucky that the school hour before the test the teacher is in my class. That hour I am allowed to do homework, learn and just focus on any school subject (falling into the category of languages and mathematics). Which mean I can take that hour to recall anything and write down my worries.
Hey Thomas Really appreciate the videos you produce, the advice you offer is certainly food for thought. Some people tend to have the habit of revising the day before their exam as well as revising a few hours before the actual exam, what do you think of this strategy? Is it a no no? With saying that, imparticular I mean making notes rather than actually reviewing revision notes that were made way before exam period. I appreciate any comments.

kudos to you! u rly inspire me to keep this going 😢🌻👏
Zennitz Rollo thanks! Good luck on your tests :)
Thanks for the video. I was really worried because I cannot perform well in the exams like how I do in my assignments and quizzes. Even the percentage varies more when compared to my classworks. This video really gave me an idea on how to deal with things.
This was so helpful ! Perfectly what I needed. Tysm!
Steaks!!!! 😂😂 Love your sense of humour! Great video btw, really helpful now that my finals are approaching! This is my favorite channel on youtube!
You're beyond amazing! I'm an incoming freshman at college and your videos are life-saving.
Using this for my AP calculus exam. Whew pray for me
I have exams all week, I'm not in college I'm in year 10 but I really want to do well I live in Australia and I'm leaving this year, these are my last exams ever ! I came on here to look up videos about Mac Beth for English but oh my god I'm watching every single video this guy has ever made. So helpful
Zoe Hardy Same! I'm in year 10 and next week is full on exam week. My last exam is gonna be the hardest cause it's gonna be VCE bio which is my weakest 😬😁😬
I made this comment when I did my half yearlys
I just did my yearlys
You'll be fine x at the end of the day a mark can't and won't define you or your future
Do what you can !
Zoe Hardy aww thank you, two more days and it'll be over!
I really hope this helps me, I have my SAT's soon, and I've got a whole week of all test in front of me. And it also annoy's me of how worried I get, but I get a good score.
Love the triangle, I already feel more relaxed. Thanks!
I have a test tomorrow....and I'm nervous my heart is beating so hard
thank you so much for this video! i have my thesis defense on 22nd of June and i'm feeling kind of desperate. this helped me calm down a bit
The points were really great. Very helpful video.
I have my AP geography exam in 10 minutes, wish me luck. I’m literally shaking (edit: guys I passed with 100%)
Congratulations!!!
Negativity Bias, i am so goin to read up on that. That is so true. Great video
man you're stressing me out more than the exam now
So wise 👏🏽👏🏽 & so happy I found this video!! THANK YOUUU!!!
I swear i was so stressed and just bursted out crying because i have the idea that i am not good enough or that im not smart enough and why would i even get a high score there are so many smart students other than me so why would i even get a high score or be able to answer the questions 💔 this breaks my hearts
Thanks a lot. This actually calmed me down a bit.
I m here at 2024. My trial exam are near and I m prepared but I m really stressed though. I hope this video really helps me.
This video really helps me to overcome my test anxiety. Thank you so much :D
thanks for this channel. brilliant stuff
Such a helpful study channels !!!! Thank u for this
I love this- your videos are informative, substantial and I just enjoy watching them. My students love your videos too.
You're nuggets of knowledge and tips have helped me a lot!
Thank you soooo much !
Best video I've watched in a long time, good stuff!
Thanks for this Thomas
Great video man.. Am using it to pass a job training course
I can't sleep because of fear that I won't score 100% on my tests, and during the test my hands are so shaky and sweaty I can't even grip my pen properly. Not to mention all the information just pulling a John Cena in my head right before the exam. Right... let's not forget the tears too :D
thank you. i really needed this.
Tomorrow I have a French test and I’m so lucky that the school hour before the test the teacher is in my class. That hour I am allowed to do homework, learn and just focus on any school subject (falling into the category of languages and mathematics). Which mean I can take that hour to recall anything and write down my worries.
You are so motivating!! Thanks for the advice!
Mirjana Savic no problem :)
Great Video!! I used this in a workshop for my high school seniors "College 101"! Thanks for the tips!
Hey Thomas
Really appreciate the videos you produce, the advice you offer is certainly food for thought.
Thank you so much! I got all As in my tests this was SO SO helpful thanks !!!!
