*Uno* you need to really work on your Monster classification knowledge. Elder Dragon isn't just a level of power, but a specific species category. Just as a mammal like a Human can't become a reptile like a lizard, a Fanged Wyvern like Magnamalo can't become an Elder Dragon. Scorned Magnamalo doesn't change its species type just because it became a Variant.
I'm so sad that he started in the swamp area... I'm not sure if you noticed in time (before the stupid bnahabra drew his attention), but Scorned always starts the fight by popping regular Magna's ultimate attack out of absolutely nowhere. It's super iconic imo, and completely caught me off guard the first time I fought him, but the small monsties ruined that one for ya, as per usual 😭
He's a glass cannon, which while a cool concept for an endgame fight, it also means that he can get smoked fairly quick which is a shame in turn. I will forever love the fact that he ALWAYS opens the fight using his ultimate move, such a "kid-gloves are off" move

Useles tip, no monster has suddenly changed classifications upon gaining a new form except for Gore Magala and Shagaru Magala and that’s purely due to story reasons and they’re also considered different monsters. Magnamalo getting a little angrier wouldn’t make him an Elder Dragon like how it wouldn’t happen for a Deviljho, Bazelgeuse, Brachydios, Rajang, or Legiana (whom I refer to as the angry bunch)

The Scorned Magnamalo switch axe is really good. And in my opinion still the best option for raw damage, even with a god charm, the slots tive yoy soo much leway. It also 340 with natural purple. And no negative affinity. Yes this is an ad for Scorned's swaxe, make it it looks cool too.
Is decent but there's way better raw swaxes, ibushi's with grinder S beats it easily, give it a try for insane juicy morph attack damage if you get bored of angry maggy.

@@solio4327 I Guess if you wanted to get a bunch of attack/comfy skills and also have random ones to just go unga bunga would be one of the better ones but since we have qurio crafting I hardly see a 3-2 as amazing, I'm always able to slot AB7, WEX3 and CB3 + swaxe skills and top it with protective polish and still have room left for extra skills which is all I need, never found myself wanting more. If it didn't had such high MR requirement and monsters didn't had resistances to blast would be great but as it is isn't very special and Iucent's is essentially better due the slots it comes with and the requirement is only MR10, hard to agree is the best in that department either.

The Scorned is just a very comfortable one to use with no real negatives, so I always like to recommend it. And quiros crafting has not been the nicest to me. The reason they gave you Deodorant is because it also gets rid of Hellfire! Though I have no idea why you'd ever use it for that, since just using a wirebug gets rid of it... it's like the same level of useless as using a nullbery to get rid of Fireblight lol I get they just wanted to give Deodorant another use besides removing stench which only one monster in Rise causes, but given how useless it is when it comes to Hellfire, it's no wonder that people don't know it works for that

I feel like it would've been obvious that Scorned isn't an Elder Dragon. The classification of Elder Dragon is simply not just a measure of power, but they class them as such based on their biology. Elder Dragon blood is unique compare to every other typical monster (hence why it's an item you can get). A perfect example of the blood separating an Elder from another is in Dalamadur; Although he's technically just a colossal Snake Wyvern, what makes him an Elder Dragon is his blood type.
Honestly with how scorn magnamaldo looks i could mistake him for an apex monster instead of him being a variant though ether way i would totally use his armor as a layered set
4 months late, but just wanted to add: The trap test also doesn't really work Since even if traps didn't work on him; it doesn't necessarily mean he's an elder, since you also can't trap Apexes either There's also Gore, who is the other way around, being an Elder Dragon you *can* capture. Though, this distinction is the whole reason why he's not classified as an ED in-game despite being called one in outside material. Capcom doesn't wanna cause confusion because *one* ED can be captured but no others
That ending though, lol. I saw that coming. It's cause you actually depleted his healthbar with the wyvernride triggering Sakura Slash. Monsters can't die while you're riding them, so you were running around on a 1hp Magnamalo. Literally any hit would have killed him. A kunai even.
Let’s get those stat changes on the board shall we? Level 1 Mail of Hellfire: Red scroll: +15 raw, -25 defense Blue scroll: +5% element, -10 all elemental resistances Level 2 mail of hellfire: Red scroll: +25 raw, -50 defense Blue scroll: +10% element, -25 all elemental resistances Level 3 mail of hellfire: Red scroll: +35 raw, -100 defense Blue scroll: +15% element, -50 all elemental resistances. For the record, as long as you are on the corresponding scroll, you will have that buff and debuff no matter what, no other conditions required.
I want put this next part separately. The mail, The guards, and the coil, each have 1 mail of hellfire. As for the usefulness of the respective pieces, I’d say the coil is the best in most cases should you be using mail of hellfire. The armor piece simply has 1 mail of hellfire, and 1 coalescence, but has 4-2-1 as its slottage, which is really really good. They all have pretty good slottage, but the guards are the most expensive armor piece of the 3, as it requires a large elder dragon gem. If you ever choose to make a hellfire build(I recommend it, they are so much fun) build the leggings for if you have a hellfire+ jewel, you can have all 4 levels of hellfire cloak on that one armor piece.

I think I share your opinion on Magnamalo. To me, it was super underwhelming in the base game. Like yeah, I could see it taking advantage of the Rampage to get some food and all, but it didn't really live up to its lore of using "hellfire" as they call it. It lacked some "ooomph" to make seem really powerful and dangerous, in my opinion. Its fight was more annoying than anything, and the damage it dealt to you with its attacks felt a bit arbitrary and nonsensical. Scorned Magnamalo literally fixed every issue I had with it. The fight is intense and fun, the power matches the animations a lot better, and its has a lot more unique moves. Plus, the Hellfire genuinely looks scary to get hit by. Mail of Hellfire is also the only risky endgame skill I'm willing to use. Health drain management is too stressful for my tastes, but having reduced defense is manageable if you know how to dodge/counter/block properly. The torso piece is generally the best one to pick if you only want 1 point for the skill. Unfortunately, there are no decorations for it, so you'd most likely sacrifice too much if you want to get it to Level 3 for it to be worthwhile.
Just for the future. If a monster isint an elder dragon its other versions wont be ones either. The only exeption is Gore Magala since Shagaru is an elder dragon but other than that? No.
Mail of Hellfire is better for element at lvl 3 than Dereliction, its a % gain for element rather than a flat +20 from Dera, but the catch is ...... if you're reading this Uno please be sitting down ..... Lvl 3 MoHF on blue scroll drops your Element Res by minus 50 So you'd probably get 1 shot if your palico sneezed on you LUL
I want to see you take on afflicted Rathalos. Besides wrecking me for my only multiple quest fails besides MR Ibushi and Narwa, he also cooked Deargamer and Rage and Cotton for some quest fails. Afflicted Zinogre also whipped Rage and Cotton worse than any mainline monster that I can remember (besides special monsters like fatalis, alatreon etc) but I know you're good at hunting Zinogre. Afflicted Diablos also served up some quest fails to some MH content creators I watch. Afflicted Rathalos actually made me rage quit, something I haven't done in years on any game. Threw my controller and everything. Yeah I cooled off and beat him but I low key think they made him harder than any afflicted so far.
to answer your question no he is not an elder dragon, but sure as hell not far off. magnamallo could already fight elder dragons in turfwars in base form so considering hate scorned magi to be a powerup i think he is definitley on paar with some elders same way fourious rajang seething bazel or pickel can fight them on evenish ground.

I get why you might think that he is an elder dragon, evan though his bace is not, and onestly, i am glad you considerd that, but the onley case i can think of where a non ekder became an elder was gore magala, but gore is not realy classafide as anything, so he is soecial.
Believe me Uno as a Gunlance main I can assure you that my fellow Gunlancers and I are also frustrated about the lack of lv8 shelling. Although 7 does work it's not the point. You essentially gring out 100 MR lvls for a shelling level that's available from before you even finish the story. All the high later MR level monsters max out at lv7 despite having to wait till scorned magnamalo just to do the final upgrade. It's just disappointing to see. I'm sure capcom believes it's OK because they have similar if not slightly lower raw then other similar tier weapons of other weapon types. But shelling level is everything. But it's OK. We're used to get shafted at this point. It's best not to expect anything. I'm sure Flamming Espinas, Violet Mizu, and Risen Chameleos will be lv7 as well.
I like the fit you got going on there. ;P Gores armor looks so good in this game and I'm happy that it returned plus the Qurio crown fits the style pretty well.

@@Zenniel64 yea I get ya I know is not hard it's just I don't have the patience for looking through different pieces of gear to find what I'm looking for just looking through decorations is stressing enough for me, so I just get a matching set decorations for whatever weapon I chose and I'm done.
I usually always start with making sure I have my main skills for damage. Then after that I put skills that compliment how I play or help with any sort of weakness I'm how I play. My reaction time sucks so I put evade extender to make me get away quicker or gap close quickly.

Frankly I love the idea that he's a glass cannon, and how that concept is reflected in his unique armor skill - how you trade defense for more damage.

I think what the game become “easy mode" with the evade extender skill, and it's great to be able to modify that aspect.

Mail of Hellfire lvl1 is pretty much the max i'll wanna go imo. Lvl 3 gets you into one-shot territory with most attacks.

I think MR magnamalo is alsmost perfect, but still lacking for sure, also if you cut the tail it powers down a lot.

I get why you might think that he is an elder dragon, evan though his bace is not, and onestly, i am glad you considerd that, but the onley case i can think of where a non ekder became an elder was gore magala, but gore is not realy classafide as anything, so he is soecial.
Believe me Uno as a Gunlance main I can assure you that my fellow Gunlancers and I are also frustrated about the lack of lv8 shelling. Although 7 does work it's not the point. You essentially gring out 100 MR lvls for a shelling level that's available from before you even finish the story. All the high later MR level monsters max out at lv7 despite having to wait till scorned magnamalo just to do the final upgrade. It's just disappointing to see. I'm sure capcom believes it's OK because they have similar if not slightly lower raw then other similar tier weapons of other weapon types. But shelling level is everything. But it's OK. We're used to get shafted at this point. It's best not to expect anything. I'm sure Flamming Espinas, Violet Mizu, and Risen Chameleos will be lv7 as well.
Hopefully the next game realizes the long-standing issue and just stops tying shelling level and damage together.

I like the fit you got going on there. ;P Gores armor looks so good in this game and I'm happy that it returned plus the Qurio crown fits the style pretty well.

If the monster has six limbs, it's an elder dragon. If it's a variant from a monster that's not an elder dragon, it won't be one.
Right cause Narwa has 6 limbs..

@@dippking4638 Still, if it has six limbs and isn't an arthropod, it's definitely an Elder Dragon for sure. Other Elder Dragons are a case-by-case basis.
Don't know how you guys have the patience to make builds, I stress out just trying to decide what weapon to use with a matching set.
it's not hard... just know what you need for the weapon you choose
@@Zenniel64 yea I get ya I know is not hard it's just I don't have the patience for looking through different pieces of gear to find what I'm looking for just looking through decorations is stressing enough for me, so I just get a matching set decorations for whatever weapon I chose and I'm done.
I usually always start with making sure I have my main skills for damage. Then after that I put skills that compliment how I play or help with any sort of weakness I'm how I play. My reaction time sucks so I put evade extender to make me get away quicker or gap close quickly.
