Your taste in vehicles is incredible. Your 2 door Corvair is seriously one of the coolest looking cars of all time.
I really appreciate that, man! Thank you!
I agree, these are all awesome designs that deserve to be preserved and enjoyed
The patina, combined with the actual condition of the chassis of that car, is what dreams are made of.
Dude it really is!! You know I’ve always had a thing for patina, so this combo is just unreal haha
I think my favorite part about old cars is pushing the new project around the driveway. The pure excitement for the new potential is what is pushing that car LOL
It’s totally what was pushing the car 😂😂😂
This is an aircooled channel and im here for it! 😂
It totally is now 😂
congrats on the new family member!
Thank you!
Bagged on thaw factory steelies and dog bowls would be so sick. Just a cool definition of OEM plus.
Right?!
John your channel has grown to have the best collection of cars on youtube.
I really appreciate that, man! I know to some people, they’re just junk cars, but I love them 😂
A Moredoor! Love it.
My first car, at 14 (1972), was a 1963 Corvair coupe that I paid $500 for. It didn't have an engine, but the guy I worked for had 2 Corvair trucks and he had a rebuilt engine that he was going to put into one of the trucks. He found out the engines were different between the cars and the trucks so he couldn't use it because it was a sedan engine. I bought it for $200 and put it in myself. That car was so fun to drive because of the light front end and the power it had. Also, my grandfather had a late model 4dr Corvair when I was younger (I don't know what year, but I think he bought it new) that I'm pretty sure was pillar-less. I was in the backseat with my mom when we were on our way from Needles CA To Bakersfield and we got rear ended. Apparently it was bad enough that he had to get a different car, so he bought a brand new 1967 4dr hardtop Chevelle that he kept until he died decades later.
What I find works for stuck brake drums is one of 2 things I take off the tire and I use an air chisel but with a hammer head fitting, your really just trying to get that pad unstuck from the drum most of the time. The second way is I use an open rim like an aluminum slot, crager or whatever then i just slowly pull the car with my trailer winch while air hammering the brake drum while under rotational force via winch and it usually pops free from that 2,000 hits per second.
I can’t wait to see the continued story of this car
That's why I love this channel, you like Evvvvvverything!! Just keep doing your things, it's the best!
I really appreciate that man!
Glad to see your appreciation for the 4-Dr ‘67! That rear brake drum removal was hilarious! Looking forward to seeing more of this project
Thanks Tim! Dude I couldn’t handle it. It took so much effort 😂
As a fellow car collector guy, It's never a bad idea to get another project when you can afford it. fyi I love your Rust/Patina theme with your cars. Saving money
That two door looks amazing!
Two inches looks perfect. I owned a three inch chopped Fiero by V8Archie, and while it was super cool, I've always felt that two inches would have looked better. BTW, I get the whole patina thing, but every time I see your bagged Corvair I can't help but think how much cooler it would look with a perfect black finish. Regardless, good luck on your new Corvair, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it. The pillared-less, windows down look is killer..
Great find, John!!! As far as 4-doors go, these have among the best rooflines of the 1960s!! And as a former ´65 Corvair owner I'm glad you found one with a stick shift in it. Mine had the PG, and I'm not going that route ever ever EVEEEER EFFING AGAAAAAIIIIN!!!!!!! Now I can't wait to see yours getting bagged!
Thanks for uploading! Greetings from Sweden
That's it dude sweet chop it looks righteous
The 1964 Corvair Monza Spyder Convertible Turbo is my dream car but the 65 model change is a family favorite since my father was a Chevy Design Engineer on the Corvair 😎
This car is so cool, so many unique items that make it such a rare specification. I am so excited to see this build when you begin. The chassis is unbelievable.
Thank you, Elliott!! Yea man I am so excited about this one!
The next time you have a stuck drum grind off the two pins that hold the brakes onto the backing plate. Do this from the back side of the plate.
Just stumbled on this gem of a channel. Literally had to beat the brakes off that sucker! Super rad cars, I can't wait to see the progress on getting it running.
Hi from Australia. Just stumbled across this video. I dont think ive seen these over here. There may be a few. But id love one. Im a fan of the interesting or unusual. Good score. Looks great. Enjoy.
Cute story .way back in about 1963-4 my Dad ( we owned a Esso service station )asked my cousin Bobby and I(we were about 14-15 at that time) If we were interested in re- assembling a Corvair Engine... a garage had takin it apart looking for a rod knock..but there was none... decided to bring it to my Dad.. so he looked over all the pieces and finding no damage .. gave us the Job ... Bobby and I opened the old Chiltons book followed instructions and put the engine together and installed it back into the early 60's car..when we fired it up sure enough it was knocking..my dad simply took a broom stick from the corner placed it up beside his ear and touched the engine in several places,,, when he got to the generator sure enough there was the knocking ..it had just been a bad generator bearing all along. he replaced the generator and the customer drove it home... every time I see one I smile.
Love that as a UA-camr you prioritise living in the moment over getting content 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
the patina bagged look has been played out
"Ralph Nader Special", you guys know what you are doing
We all need another project! Your collection is so damn cool....
Thanks , This The Great Car Channel & Video & The Great Work !
Hello From Finland !
Thank you!
@@JohnLudwick Thanks , Same To You !
The first thing I noticed was 4 DR HardTop... KOOL 👍
I remember riding around in a corvair just like that one. My dad was a corvair nut when I was little. We had vans , pickups , spiders, monza, . They didn't feel unsafe to me.
I'm stoked on this. 4 door corvairs are so cool and underrated
Increadible content! You really build special cars! Excited to see more!!
I really appreciate that! Thanks George!
Cool with another Corvair. Love 4 doors my self. All though I am an Opel Guy.
True story there used to be a sports car category in Australian motor racing in the 1980s. There was a very fast corvair in the series that raced with a few sandbags in the boot to keep the rear planted.
Very cool man! Nice find
I did something similar with a 1951 split window beetle - just couldn’t let it go, my dream car 😎 love the Corvair - super cool 👍🏼
my best friend in HS dad rebuilt and restored corvairs...he had a van and that was how we all went surfing together and his daily was a survivor coupe
That Blue interior DAAAMMN sooooo good
The interior lasted a long time if original. Is that a real thing? But learning something new. Thanks for sharing!
Think about a first Gen 4 dr and remove the rear door to make it a roadster 😉
Jay Leno says the Corvair is one of the most unique cars of all time, flat 6, air cooled, 4 wheel independent suspension, rack and pinion.
SWEET! Another sick piece of aircooled automotive awesomeness!
Thanks man! They really are so cool!!
Excellent!
I originally wanted a 2nd gen to do a 4.3l v8 swap so bad, but now im starting to reconsider. Maybe just a full engine rebuild, and prettying the old girl up will do. Glad to dee the Corvair getting more love from nore people.
10:58 nahhh you know damn well you'll be doing it again someday :D. So relatable.
First time one of your videos popped up in my feed. Your cars are amazing and I’m jealous.
Great purchase dude and leave the damage on the rear as it is not too bad and it gives it character.
Looking forward to this build Bro 🤗
Hell on you man.... I friggin love more doors... Congrats really. That's awesome!
Side note: you probably know this but I'm pretty sure they have the same wheelbase. So, if you measure from the bottom front of the wing windows to the bottom corner of the roof( along the lower window edge), the window holes may be the same size.
LOL- I have an "End-run" '76 Valiant sedan. low trim, weird options, and a 4-speed OD attached to a 318. Most don't get why I love the car, but it'll cruise on the highway no issue and I've done several things to stiffen the chassis, improve the braking & handling, make more power more efficiently. It's low-stress fun that I can utilize as a 'normal' car
The late model Corvairs must be safe enough for Don Yenko to race his Yenko Stinger. ;-)
Bondoed the truck lid... want to try that again? ;-D
As part of a Corvair concept I'd remove the inner headlights, redo the bezels to surround the single multi-function lights (halo), fill in the gap in facia, remove lock trim and fill in holes.
Then make the hood one piece (weld), then cut the fenders just below the body line (just above on spare fenders and above modified headlight bezels till the point, then across facia..
After strengthening the new hood, and remaining lower front facia, install Saab hood hinges, latches and locks so it tilts forward.
That's one of the features of my Corvair concept I envisioned when I was younger.
Wow! Bet it wouldn’t take much to get it running!
Call me crazy, but that 4 door is going to be the best car on your channel, yet.
Thanks man!
Hell yes, I love this!
Thanks man!
so solid. listen so perfect those rear doors latch
Fun watch - just met you guys in the Tai food truck line this evening. The Brit
It was so nice to meet you! Hope the curry was good!
The unmodded Corvair is spectacular. Hope you don't destroy it.
Good Stuff! 👍
Awesome!
I don't know if I ever seen a 4 door corvair but also I never seen a wagon corvair stoked for you cause you make them look super dope
That shifter is hilarious bent so funny
Sick car dude like the finish on that chopped was thinking of rocking my car the same
A lot of cars were that blue color on the inside. My friend painted the wheels the same color with chrome caps to tie things together on his '66 Malibu. Great color interior in my opinion.
You’re making me want to bag my Peugeot 404!
Yes!!
You and I have the same taste in cars(no B pillar). I like your style, I just like mine more polished but am very much a corvair fan. I would like a lakewood 4 speed with bucket seats. Talk about a unicorn. Keep up the good work
Cool looking cars!! Love the oldies!!
I have a old 67 or 8 complete running
dual carb motor corvair motor sitting in my garage if you are ever in Fl
Cool video
I learned how to drive in my cousins 3 speed Corsair. Yes, I’m that old.
Great channel I stumbled upon love the Corsair’s and really fell in love w the Century Thanks for the Content So nice to see you handle the Century with respect can’t wait to see you work on this Corvair Ralph Nader and Lawyers in general lol self serving and unaccomplished but they know what’s best that’s what a big problem they continue to be if your driving a car all cars have driving dynamics and the pedestrian grills safety crap nowadays lol when I was a kid we were taught to not walk into traffic and survived easily Thanks again
And my want for a corvair just went up that much more. Thanks man.
You totally need to get one!
@@JohnLudwick currently searching marketplace haha
think its a 1966 500 door sport sedan rare car the front chin spoiler was 1966 ,same with the larger front cross bar emblem .my dad had a 67 500 it had a 3 spoke steering wheel and a 4 way flasher button on the steering column glad someone saved it
Daily Driven Deathtraps just uploaded today. It's a Corvair.❤😅😅
Nice!!!!!! 👍🏻
I have seen a corvair spyder convertible 4 speed, friend had one talk about fun. His mom had a 4 door automatic . Between the two never had any problems with holing the road. Nader was nuts. Destroid a good lower priced car.
Now that’s a sweet ride. Being from the UK it’s not a car we see over here. I feel it has similar lines to an Alfa Romeo GT Junior. Not sure about the air cooled engine though but it sure is good looking.
John, why does your back hurt today? Oh just pushing my 4-door '67 Corvair around in the driveway! Great score and i know you will do justice by it.
John I know you probably have a vision already of a final product. I would love to see you do your version of a 4 door patina version of the Yenko Stinger. Like a left for dead race car, and bagged.
That would be SO COOL! That’s kind of the styling I went with on my coupe, too. Subtle chop with the aluminum support braces in the rear plexi window!
It's got a look of a Great white shark. Sleek oldy.
Use some heat around that drum next time👍🏻
We kept thinking we were so close 😂
Man I’d love to find one in the uk might have to start looking stateside
Yes!!
I think doing suicide doors on the rear doors like a Lincoln would be awesome!
I seriously thought the same thing!!
Pretty sure all aircooled cars are pretty oddball
New subscr... I'm with you on the air cooled lovE!! Beautiful cars!
Polished Cragars coming back to a Corvair in the stable? lol still remember the first time I saw your OG Corvair, it was on the Cragar wheels!
That drum fought you hard
What a nightmare 😂
The Corvair is one of my favourite U.S vehicles (Dodge charger 69-70 being top), we had a rear engine car here in the UK check out the Hillman Imp or Even better the Hillman Imp California (Hillman being a sub of Routes/Chrysler)
time to visit the corvair grave yard now I know they have the rear backing plate.
I❤Cortarse man👍
I have the opposite experience every time I'm looking for a corvair it's a 4dr stick with a bench, and I want a 2 door stick with buckets
No Brasil de frente é uma Brasília, de trás é um opala haha
My early model sedan is a three speed. I would love to bag mine but as you know the rear suspension is quite different than the late model. For now it's statically low.
I may have missed it and you may have tried it and not videoed it but what I have always done 1st when a wheel is stuck is to bleed the stuck wheel at the "bleeder valve!" 95% of the time I can free a stuck wheel because most of the time the problem is the brakes are stuck.... and I don't break the drum or bend stuff.
Thats an awesome find! You need to secure the “unsafe” license plate from Tennessee now lol
Yes!!
@@JohnLudwick then the Greenbrier could be named Ralph? 😂 Family of Corvairs!
4 door, oh no, but if you did a low rider Greenbrier van that would be cool.
That poor type 3 is just crying out for some attention, it runs so nice
I know!! 😩
yes sir. a new corvair. I like 4d corvairs
Me too man!
What kind of the old cars are worth to favorite? I am in China, people don’t like to collect the old cars because the kilometers are so much
to take off a rusty drum you need only water , no lubricatiotion spray , 30 minutes just waiting to loose itself ,trink a coffe or a cola meanwhile ,! 30 minutes later you will get the drum loose ! i am very sure ! just try next time .... thank and good luck !
Times are changing… back a few years ago you couldn’t pay someone to take these.
I know it! I gave the guy scrap price for my chopped Corvair back in 2013 😂
I don't understand how you can find cooler and cooler cars all the time. Every time you build a new project I'm like "okay it can't get more cool than this", and then you do shit like this 😂
I was 56 seconds late.
Too bad they never made the engines any bigger than 164 cubic inches. I'd would like to see chevy make a 306 cubic inch flat 8 that fits in there. I know thats never gonna happen but the idea of that would be so cool.
Huh, I haven't watched your channel too long, I didn't know your 2dr Corvair was chopped. I guess from the front the chopped windshield looks a bit flat.
