Have you tried cleaning the carburetor? Sounds like it might be getting clogged, had similar issue with pressure washer until I thoroughly cleaned its carb out.
Ordered one to receive it for this summer and will receive it on Tuesday; I have heard nothing but good things about this mower. I heard it is very reliable and not needing any more maintenance than changing the factory oem spark plug with its replacement every two years like clockwork and also changing the synthetic oil every 50 hours running time about every two years also as well. I have heard that its also very beneficial to use 5w - 30 fully synthetic oil change out ever two years or 50 hours whichever occurs first. Just get oneself the Mobile 1 fully synthetic oil with the extended performance with its extended oil additive package for maximum protection and change the synthetic oil every two years or fifty hours running time like clockwork. Buying one five quart container of 5W-30 fully synthetic Mobil 1 oil will last one at least 666 running hours at least or at least 13 typical mowing seasons; mowing ones lawn about fifteen times per year typically; this year in Sept. 23 will be the last year that Honda will be making gas powered lawn mowers; an end to an era so might as well get one for the record books because it quite literally runs just that good.
Got one yesterday. What the hell does that "remove protective film before use" refer to? The sticker on the top of the mover is barely attached as it is. Don't get it. There's no "protective film" to remove. I ended up peeling that whole large decal of the top of mine because it was already barely on there in the first place. Left a bunch of residue.
There's a thin clear plastic film that's on top of the label of the mower where it says GCV 170. It's possible they no longer put it on there but it was on mine.
Really? I had a Craftsman mower before this and that thing used to clog up at the back chute leading into the bag since it was smaller than the bag size. I would be lucky to fill it a quarter of the way before it clogged and dropped clippings below on lawn again. Haven't had any problems with this one though, I've been able to fill up this bag with no problems.

I would have treated the underside of the deck before adding oil, so as not to cause any leakage.

This mower clogs up with grass worse than any mower I have ever owned.
