I decided to purge with you but as you showed the first book, I paused, got up, made a cup of coffee, got comfortable with a notebook and pen, hit unpause, and it was the most adorable, relaxing, video and I also have a list of graphic novels and other books for high school. Thank you 🙏🏾 for a beautiful Sunday. And now on to video 2.

Oh no! I started watching so I’d have a body double while I purge our shelves but I now I find myself sitting with a note pad making a book wish list 😂

Salt to the sea was one of my favorite reads this year!

My kiddo enjoyed Paola. He's also a re-reader and has read that one several times. I think you should keep that one! I bought the sequels as well. Witch of Blackbird Pond fell flat here too, as did a lot of OM 5th Lit (Early Thunder, Birchbark House, etc). I subbed out a lot of those for titles for others.

I subbed several titles in year 5, so it was hard to remember which one came with that year. I cannot even express how much they both disliked Blackbird , my daughter especially. She thought it was torture 😆. Thxs for the rec! I’ll need more help in part 2 🤣

UA-cam was being a bit wonky. I just loved what you said about never using a recipe (or curricula) as written and improving it -- it's just an "inspiration" 😆@@Arleneandcompany

Are you selling any of these books? I’d be interested.

I'm not, I'm sorry! I make all efforts to pass them on to our local homeschool group. Usually, as I'm sorting through my books during my purges, I already have a specific family in mind that may love to have them. I don't sell any of my books or curricula for several reasons (including the fact that I received some for review or purchased via educational funds); I gift them forward and hope the next family will continue to pass them on when they no longer have a need for them.

The Cultural Literacy book by Hirsch is markedly not diverse or inclusive. It's very much old white man would like to reassert his importance sort of out of touch. The Knowledge Gap by Naomi Wexler is a great book, particularly if you have read Hirsch's The Knowledge Deficit as Wexler points out some of the weaknesses in The Knowledge Deficit.

Thank you for saving me the time! It’s one of those grabs I got with a free book offer from thriftbooks. It’s been chilling in my tbr pile for years and had no idea what to expect from it. Knowledge Gap I just received, I’ll eventually get to it, aiming for this summer. Was a tad worried it might lean towards favoring one education method over others, but that's not my vibe. Appreciate the insights and the help with my purge! 🩵
