What Happens when Water Pump Bearings Fail

- This 2007 Ram 2500 with the 5.9 Cummins Diesel engine had a water pump bearing fail. Fortunately nothing was damaged besides the actual water pump itself, which is fairly simple to replace.
Man that has to be the easiest water pump job ever.
God bless cummins engineers!

100% agree.
Ford Modulars are a cake job too
I know right! Gotta take front end off my t1n sprinter to change waterpump , and take half engine apart on newer 3.5 3.7 fords…
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that pump didn't get that bad in one day, and it should have been quite obvious from all the noise that something was wrong..
Believe it or not, I just had a pump self destruct on a vehicle, and had no early warning signs.
going through the same thing on a fusion, there were no early warning signs of failure aside from maybe a coolant smell. no noise or decreased engine performance
One thing about those Cummins the water pump is fairly easy to replace!! Do you think any metal fragments got into the system?👍🇺🇸
Just happened to me thank you so much my friend!!!!
A bit notorious for the water pumps to fail. Replaced a many on the bigger ones in the strait trucks At least they are easy
That water pump pulley was really bad! Good thing the impeller did not do any noticeable damage I like the fast idle screwdriver. You should put them for sale. I bet you would sell a lot of them. Just my 2 cents!
My water pump bearing just went. No play with the fan or pulley, and no coolant dripping from the weephole, yet. So I bought a new tensioner & repacked the idler bearing. Because my fan shroud is ginormous and laborious to remove. And I don't have a long thin prybar, or screwdriver on my roadtrip here. So of course I'm out $61 with a new belt and tensioner and 1 extra tensioner pulley I can't return (needed a new belt and tensioner soon, anyway). Funny how I've watched sailboat cruisers (families living on sailboats, sailing the world, diving, and making a living in UA-cam, and their endless impeller repairs) on UA-cam for years, and now I have impeller (water pump blades with bearing shot and rubbing against the housing) problems, too 😃. Can an engineer actually build a reliable impeller? Nope. Make sure you flush out the cooling system after filling it full with water, and flushing out any metal shavings the impeller dug from the housing so cooling system isn't clogged.
Nice to see you back! 🤣👍
Did a repair on a 1994 F250 7.3 break its water pump. belt shredded on the acc pulleys and the water pump pulley was limped over. New pump, new belt, and some fresh G05 and all was well.
That's proper fucked, more than likely it's been leaking coolant for ages due to shaft seal failure which contaminated the bearing causing it to fail.
Could also just be end of life of the bearing but even then, to get that bad, someone had to notice.
That was one crusty ass battery terminal I spotted
The old water pump looked like it had seen better days good video
Enjoyed the video.
good one
Is there a special coolant for Cummins motors??
Nope just the green stuff.
I see occasionally bottles in auto supply stores marked as "Water Pump Lubricant" . Is this stuff really legitimate or just a scam ?
Thats what thefuckn pumps for
