    For small square bales (yes some people still make them), uniformity of the windrow will significantly improve your baling. You can waste a lot of time trying to fix the baler when it's the damn windrow inconsistency .

    One problem I see with hay equipment n especially hay balers is they get left outside exposed to weather. My boss had Claas Rollant which he spent money fixing n left it outside for year. I bet one of workers that baler wouldn’t make it through hay season, it didn’t, major self destruction. Keep hay equipment shedded n remember when storing hay keep eye on temperature of bales n be safe around bales in sheds.

      Sums up ever baler ive come across. Always in the field left to rot. Havnt seen mucb difficulty in rounds compared to squares, but im sure they are all the same with issues.

    Don't rely on a moisture probe because it slides in between the outside of the stems of hay, so you are reading the external dryness of the hay. One has to look at inside the stem. I like to bale at 11% moisture.

    Would you do a video on a 450 utility New Holland baler about how to adjust density

    Great video, I do have a question. What are the common wear points when looking at a used idiot block maker? I just want to know what to look for when I'm at the dealership, or at an auction.

    I want to put a liquid preservative applicator on my Kubota round baler. Where can I put it, or is there a model made specifically for Kubota round balers? Thanks Neil!

      Harvest tech has a system.

      Yes he is right. We have a Harvest tech applicator on our kubota baler. It was not cheap but worth every penny with the unpredictable weather that happens more often. For us it was just like purchasing insurance!

    Do y’all sale moisture sensors for a Kubota round baler and monitor?

  • @brenttonks4249
    @brenttonks4249 Рік тому +1

    Be very careful of using the probe type moisture meters. They rely on a density setting input by the operator. If your meter doesn’t have that function then be more concerned, because the reading will be wrong. If you put in the wrong density setting it will definitely give you the wrong moisture content.
    Use a Wile meter with a 253? Dish probe to overcome the issue and sample the windrow. It’s too late to dry out a wet bale!.
    Or if you have time dry it down in a microwave oven. Record your starting weight and dry it in 1 minute intervals until the weight stops changing. This will be more accurate. Make sure you but a glass of cold water in the microwave to prevent the hay catching fire and replace it regularly to prevent it boiling over into the sample.
    I use 100 grams of product to start with and if the weight doesn’t drop below 85 grams then we are good to go at 15% moisture!!

    I have a question, when it comes to mower conditioners. New Holland still offers the Haybine as well as the Discbine. Why would someone chose one over the other?

    • @nicholasbrown7068
      @nicholasbrown7068 4 роки тому +2

      Just to add to that question, Over the years most manufacturers offered their own version of the haybine weather it was JD, Ford, Oliver, MF, IH, Hesston etc. But all those companies moved away (the ones still in business) from that type of design and just offered a discbine mower conditioner. But New Holland continues to do so.

      Discbines can cut at much higher speeds, however if the hay is laying down, the haybine will do a much better job of cutting flush to the ground. Also, discbines HATE stones, not a big deal with haybines.

    • @tcityfarmer9910
      @tcityfarmer9910 4 роки тому

      Also a diskbine needs more horsepower around 80+ but a haybine only will need like 30 horsepower to cut the hay.

      Windrowers do a good job, particularly models with a crimper. 25' is good in the heaviest of hay, otherwise, 35' can cover a lot of ground.

    A individual wrapper produces better hay then a tunnel wrapper

    • @brenttonks4249
      @brenttonks4249 Рік тому

      I don’t care what wrapper your using, get the moisture wrong and the best wrappers conserve crap product. If you are wrapping Hay then you need to ensure the moisture content is low enough to prevent condensation inside the package which creates mould, rotting and wasted product. 10% or less can ensure best possible hay at the time of feeding.
      Haylage and silage are different and you should select the appropriate moisture for each of these products.

    "Use a good quality twine". Yet you don't tell us how to evaluate twine as to its quality. Pretty worthless somment on that front.
