Thank you for your ideas I have been an activity asst for 4 yrs at a memory care assisted living I have done most of the ideas you mentioned. Its very challenging to be expected by upper management to be an "entertainer", with no training at all.I do my best every day, and create my own programs because that's the only way to get the job done. Its impossible to engage with 25 people at the same time, when they are in varying stages of dementia.I really believe the company I work for is delusional and just interested in money.I'm learning from the job so I can eventually work for myself doing freelance art therapy at assisted living and nursing homes.I watch you to get new ideas because it can get really boring if you don't have new ideas once in a while.❤️

I can relate to your story - I've just started working as an Activities Assistant with zero training. I'd love some advice from you if you have time 😊

@rebeccabrierton9718 I'm an Occupational Therapy Assistant student. You could try looking up OT resources and activity ideas. If your facility has an OT or COTA, I would definitely ask them for ideas. The occupational in Occupational Therapy refers to daily activities, so OT specializes in this kind of thing.

My MIL lives with us and has dementia. She goes to a senior center during the day, which she hates and it’s a battle everyday to get her up and going. It’s a nice place with nice people and activities but she refuses to participate in anything except sitting outside getting fresh air. She is now sundowning and keeps the household awake for hours. My husband is looking for an assisted living situation but they have waitlists. We are frustrated and exhausted and don’t know what else to do. The screaming and cursing late at night is part of why our daughter moved out. If anyone has suggestions, we’d love to hear them.

Folding small towels, matching socks from laundry, drying dishes, putting dishes away in obviously piles, scrambling eggs, reading to young kids were jobs my aunt and mom did during their dementia.
It is especially nice to fold baby or kids clothes.
