1:07 I did a democratic Denmark playthrough about a month ago. Two forts on the border, medium tank aa space marine divs, garrison the tile north of Aarhus and all other ports. Germany didn't want to Barb at all, it took Russia asking for Bessarabia IN 1944 for any pushing to be possible. I took Schleswig-Holstein and the coast up to Stettin, then Russia got super OP and declared on the allies.
That's odd. I've never seen the soviets demand Bessarabia late on historical let alone Romania refusing them for it to lead to war. I've seen AI Romania cede it even when it was at war with the USSR or when guaranteed by factions that were at war with them.
I hope Norway gets more love in the nordic DLC, we were staunchly neutral, won the first although temporary allied victory in Narvik, and had the largest trade fleet in the world.

Stakuyi, you really should look into the Infanrty Equipment Designer mod for both vanilla and R56. It seriously has a bigger impact on the game than the plane, tank and ship designer put together.

I had my best Hoi4 game ever as Norway, I used a Norwegian mod that makes Norway even worse at the start, and is a really good, "historically accurate mod". Here is how I did it and what happened. Norway starts with a crap navy of 9 ancient submarines, 2 newer mining destroyers, 3 old torpedo destroyers, and 4 coastal cruisers that are also old. I did use the Norway Expanded mod, which is pretty good. It reflects well with how shit Norway was at the time, so you have to rush down to fix the economy first before you can do anything & by the time it's fixed the Germans are ready to knock. So you just get time to fix the economy, military production, and the army situation before the Germans come. What I did at the start was to make all my units the crappy Binary division, then add production lines for Firearms, Support, Artillery, Anti-Air, Trucks, Light Tanks, Fighters and Close Air support. What I did with my unites was to give them recon and engineers for extra movement and defence bonuses, you need that when moving your units from port to port during the enemy landings. Support artillery for fire support, anti-air to deal with the German air force as well as maintenance companies to steal enemy equipment. You need everything you can get with limited industry. Fighters are fighters of course and the Close air support can also do naval strikes. Now as Norway, you have a crap army and are constantly going to get naval invaded by Germany, Italy, and their allies. So as Norway, you have to make sure that they cannot naval invade in one region to free up the army to guard other ports. After you fix your economy and use the bonuses to build up some needed Mils, focus on dockyards. By the time the invasion starts, you should have a few extra subs and mining destroyers. Put the mining destroyers on mining, subs on convoy raiding and the torpedo destroyers and cruisers on patrol, plus aid from the air force in the Danish belt/North Sea over Denmark. Make sure that your navy research is all about survival, damage control, and speed as well as those types of traits for the admirals. Also don't forget to engage on low risk only. Now at first, you will only keep the Germans from having enough naval superiority to invade in the Danish belts but as your sunken ships get replaced with better ones, (subs, destroyers, heavy cruisers) the experience grows etc, You will eventually run circles around the germans in the Danish belts hiding behind the islands and striking them as they pass by. It was so satisfying to see. Then for some reason, the Soviets declared war on France making it a three-way war so now I did the same thing with the Soviet navy and the Japanese too for some reason. So I pretty much sunk a huge chunk of their fleets in the Danish belts with a much smaller navy just using mining destroyers, torpedo destroyers, heavy cruisers, subs, and land-based air support. When the Germans fell I took their navy and used that on the soviets, took their navy, then used all that on the Japanese & boom, I navally invaded Japan and took their Navy too. Ended up with a Norway with a massive rading navy. So of course, I left the allies and declared war on Britain for old times' sake.

Tried this on vanilla, got smashed but im still alive. Im determined to reclaim the homeland. Just have the little island in the north and the UK was lucky to gift me some territory in africa, its 1947. War is still raging, soviets have turned on the allies and germany still going strong. Building an army in the UK for an invasion home!
In real life, landing in the region south of Stavanger might be good considering it is one of the flattest part of Norway. One of the few exceptions are the bottoms of deep valleys and a calm ocean.
With enough forts, anything is survivable, even Luxembourg, or... Mozambique So, yes (haven’t tried Norway yet, but if the others work, Norway will too, especially considering it’s already great terrain and defense) (Except modded cases like against the Dread League, or similar)
i like the idea of playing a releasable african nation, declaring war on the USA and Britain and hiding in level 5 forts in the jungle and making them loose 3 million men. I did this as Communist china for the Sun Tzu Reborn achievement and sat on 1 tile for 8 years in game to grind XP.

So fun fact Norway held out longer then France when the Germans attacked. Had the German paratroopers not succeeded it’s likely Germany would have been stuck in a long slow grinding invasion.

Turning off supply for allies should stop British troops from taking the port I’ve tried the port strat before, typically it’s good to keep the fallback line off, then you can just support attack without the stress of timing when to stop your units
play as Dominican republic, i dont really think it has a own focus tree however it would still be interesting to play with as an island nation in the caribbean

You should try the Naval Rework Mod for base or Kaiserich as it makes the navy more fun and useful for smaller country’s.

Honestly Denmark is extremely defensible it's got a very narrow choke point. The problem comes when the navel invasions start.
