I'm so glad Luc Lemay said Chuck Schuldiner. Not a melodic singer, but one amazing vocalist.
+Josh Schulz Chuck had one thing that I think is missing from most metal bands today and that's soul. His vocals (and guitar solos) on Symbolic were coming from a place in him that no one could duplicate.
Polter Geist Wow, I totally agree. Soul is what a lot of death metal bands are missing.
+Josh Schulz I really feel the emotion in his vocals. i really enjoy when someone can push their emotions through the harsh vocals. the new fallujah "The void alone" regardless of your opinion of their music i really can feel his emotion in his vocals. especially in the end of it.
Just like when you listen to Angelcorpse. You just know his soul is gone and he is just pissed, lol
He was an amazing lyricist as well and I hardly ever actually pay attention to lyrics in metal.
Halford
Dickinson
Dio
It's one of these three.
tmage23 those are my three
lol, all of these metal singers suck and can't sing, go listen to Dimash the Legend, he is better than any metal singer dead or alive, he is a better technical vocalist than rob halford, bruce dickenson, ronnie james dio combined.
Dimash is the greatest legend of all time
better than Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson & Prince combined
He is also the greatest metal singer, better than Dio, Bruce Dickenson & Rob Halford combined.
He is also the greatest grunge singer, better than Layne Staley, Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder combined.

also he is the greatest songwriter of all time better than Bob Dylan, Beatles, Stevie Wonder combined
also he is the most versatile singer of all time, Better than Mike Patton
also he can sing in 6000 different languages fluently and 1000 of music genres
also he has the widest range of all time (10 octaves), Wider than Tim Storms, Adam Lopez & Georgia Brown combined
Also he can sing the highest note (G11) than any male of female singer in history, higher than Georgia Brown (G10)
Also he can sing better and higher than any Female singer, Better than Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin combined.
Also he is the greatest classical and modern opera singer of all time, better than Maria Callas, Enrico Caruso & Luciano Pavarotti combined.
Also he is the greatest music composer of all time, better than Mozart & Beethoven combined
Also he is the greatest guitarist of all time, better than Jimi Hendrix & Eddie Van Halen combined

Mike Patton! Thank you very much.
Fuckin' A. Save the best for last.
Of course...
Yep. Patton or Townsend.
I was sitting through the whole video waiting for someone to say Mike Patton!
Literally one of the widest ranges in the game. Also he did the zombie voices In left 4 dead
Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Phil Anselmo, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Mike Patton, King Diamond, Chuck Schuldiner, etc.
also Geoff Tate.
Dio..period
I even agree with your order
Ozzy isnt even near the best talentwise.
@Guilty Pleasure Nice to see someone talk about Kyo. He's hands down the best vocalist I've seen live. The list in the original comment is also awesome, but haven't seen any of them unfortunately

Amazing in studio. Terrible live.
Julia Karlova disagree with you there.
@@JJ-hi5ln I've seen him live many times and had a quick chat backstage too. He totally owns the stage, unbelievable voice, incredible frontman and super smart guy.
James Hetfiled was so aggressive at his prime. He ruled the stage, he owned every single second of the show and you cannot compare his talent to any other frontman. I believe he isn't get enough credit. He is the definition of metal.
Also, worth mentioning Sebastian Bach, John Oliva, Chester Bennington.
Devin Townsend for me. And then I'd probably say Joe Duplantier. I've seen Gojira live twice and yeah, twas amazing.
Fuck yea you got good taste
Dev easily wins
Gonna see Devin live in February, and I'm already super excited :D

Hansi Kürsch anyone? A guy that propably mostly german speakers will know would be Stumpen from Knorkator. I also agree that Devin Townsend, MJK and Mikael Akerfeldt deserve some love too. Another personal farvourite of mine would be Joakim Brodén.
I was looking for someone to name drop Hansi! Amazing vocal range, great frontman. Fucking love Blind Guardian, probably one of my personal top 3 bands.
Akerfeldt is hands down. The range he had on ghost reveries was insane.
Todesnuss Fuck yeah love BG!! Hey I noticed you mentioned some Swedish artists, which is great. Everybody knows the best metal comes from Sweden and Finland. Check out Pain of Salvation and their album Remedy Lane. Their singer is the best metal vocalist in my opinion

Going with Phil Anselmo remember it's just an opinion
i agree Phil Anselmo
old phil.
Kevin Blanco Phil in my opinion also second I would probably say Maynard then Bruce Dickinson and probably dio
There's good reason behind this. Find Will To Survive.. It's an old Cowboys era recording of Phil. His voice has finally (amazing it took this long) fallen off.. but his progression and versatility is unbelievable especially counting in as I just said, how long it took for his voice to finally go out considering his range. He took that more death metal turn there for a while in the ending phases of Pantera. But holy shit he could wail back in the day. I'm throwing in Corey Taylor and Matt Barlow ( formerly of Iced Earth) as well
Hell, let's throw in Howard Jones too. His voice if powerful as fuck
Peter Steele. Type O Negative.💚🖤💚 Rip Green Man 😔
Vocalist: Rob Halford
Front man: James Hetfield
Reports Virtuoso bye
My opinion:
Vocalist: Dio
Front man: Bruce Dickinson
Vocalist: Dio
Front man: Chuck Schuldiner
Vocalist between dio and halford
Front man def bruce no one owns the stage like him.
Michael kiske
Sorry ladies and gents, Mikael Akerfeldt is the greatest. Voice of an angel and voice of the devil in what seems like a flick of the switch.
+Dominic Figueroa Jason Medonca from Akercocke also. He has genuinely some of the most sinister and actually sometimes disturbing vocals I've ever heard, but also some very gentle clean singing.
I was thinking this exact same thing. I love his cleans but I wouldn't say they are the best I've ever heard. Nobody touches his death metal vocals though. It is impressive how he can change from one to the other on a dime.
He is without doubt the best death metal vocalist
Was gonna comment this
Mike Patton for the win!!!
Devin Townsend, Florian Magnus Maier, Travis Ryan. No one else comes close.
EDIT: And Mike Patton.
MIKE "the MAD god" PATTON! The only one who can do anything (from growl to beatbox, from clean to rap, from scream to the zombies vocals, from english to Italian, from Italian to spanish, from spanish to morse code!)

Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation is insanely gifted
1 Mike Patton
2 Devon Townsend (1st live)
3 Chris Cornell
Cornell's voice is like Michael Jackson. I DISPISE &/or HATE that shit!!!!
Mike patton, and phil anselmo are both amazing with the crowd and amazing singers!
Thankfully someone said Mike Patton (and it happened to be on the closing part of the video).
King Diamond is one of the undefeated best at his craft, it is not only his very high pitched "falsett"-vocals, that make him stand out, but his whole role-playing while he embodies a whole cast of different characters, by his vocal-presentation!
PHIL FUCKING ANSELMO

Maynard James Keenan
chelseablue1996 for me personally,it’s corey taylor, but manyard has an incredible voice
They both far from being the great ever
Hahahahahahaha
Devin and Maynard for sure.
Devin Townsend
Devin Townsend deserves the title.... NOBODY can touch his vocals!!
Mike patton.
Devin Townsend ffs
The loud and mighty, Max Cavalera.
Geoff Tate, Rob halford, and Bruce Dickerson
PHIL ANSELMO
i would go with Dickinson but my favorite voice in metal is Lemmy.
Michael Kiske- Helloween
Bruce Dickinson, Michael Kiske and Klaus Meine 🖤
Totally Mike Patton!
No love for Geoff Tate?
It sucks I know..... I would have said Tate or Devin Townsend
Even Dio and the metal god have sung (no pun) the praises of Geoff Tate.
It’s for metal , Geoff is great , not metal
My opinion
Queensryche is obviously metal
My top 5 in no particular order: Michael Kiske of Helloween, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, Rob Halford of Priest, Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Ronnie James Dio.
I was worried there for a minute! Thought no one was gonna mention Mike P.!! The Absolute greatest!!!
Michael Kiske never gets any love...
Geezer Butler Sad, one of the best.
Yeaaaaah. Kiske!!!! Finally someone in this comment section who says Kiske.
Kiske, Tate both
Don't worry. The other guys compete for 2:nd place. Kiske is in a category of his own.
Totally agree, he is the best
Johan Hegg. For sure. This deep sound is awsome af
Sheepdog McClaren from Razor. The screams on Violent Restitution (especially the one at the start of The Marshall Arts, an instrumental song!) are harshest, loudest mist metal screams you'll ever hear from an 80's thrash band. And he was able to pull them of live too.
Who was that doing the scream at the outro, that was crazy lol I liked it
Ending with a bang. Mike Patton is my favorite too. From Fantomas to Mondo Cane. Tough to beat.
Mike Patton and Phil Anselmo... Hands down in my book.
Honorable mention for me is Christian Alvestram. One of my favorites. Dont think hes the best or greatest but just feel he desveres love. His range is crazy
Some good answers there, Barney Greenway, Mike Patton, Ted of Darkthrone. Solid.
For heavy metal:Bruce,Dio and Rob
For Thrash: James and Phil
in that same order
Jotape donoso YEAH-HEAH
Jotape donoso thanks watchmojo
What about Ozzy Osbourne
Exetly
James hetfield has one vocal style and it sucks
Layne Staley in every category
1- Rob Halford 2- Dio 3- Bruce Dickinson, enough said...
Those high pitched wails are terrible. I hate that style, glad it's gone.
1. Dickinson 2. Halford 3. Dio imo
Adam Covers switch dio and halford and you’ve got me convinced man.
@@zane4575 dude maiden still going strong and those screams are what it's all about
I have to say, for me on a personal level, Layne Staley. That guy had such a unique sound in his vocals.
Him and Peter Steele. Another very unique vocalist.
Mike Patton.
mine is a two way tie between devin townsend and Mike Patton
My favorites;
Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Sabbath, Black Country Communion)
Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy)
Klaus Meine (Scorpions)
Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle)
Thin Lizzy weren't Heavy Metal.
Chris Cornell or Devin Townsend 🤘🏻
No one said Dave mustaine. Lol. Damn I was expecting at least 1. Dave's voice is so fucking incredible, he's completely original and unique. No one can mimic his vocals to a T the way people can mimic hetfield or halford or Dickinson. The only vocalist I'd say that rivals Dave in that sense is Dio.
I REALLY hope you're kidding.... right?
AGREED!!! Metal voices aren't supposed to be smooth and clean, they're supposed to be gritty and dark. Mustaine and Lemmy are the perfect examples of that.
fuck yeah
The reason know one can mimic him is because nobody else sucks that much ass
Rob Halford..
Klaus Meine.. (still got heavy metal..haha)
almost 70 but still able to sings
A battle between Bruce Dickenson, Dev Townsend or King Diamond.
Mike Patton getting alot of love here
CHESTER BENNINGTON!!!
I agree with alexi, Sebastian Bach
When this question comes up, I always think of Dio, Halford and Diamond first. And many of these interviewees seem to agree. I am also a big fan of Mike Patton and agree that his range is incredible; I`m glad to see that it was acknowledged here.
Jari Maenpaa
King Diamond, Dio, Bruce Dickinson. In that order.
Rob Halford, Dio, King Diamond, Bruce Dickingson for me in that order.
Alexandra Díaz King diamonds voice is not the best
For you mate, no my business.
best answer in the chat :) they are the best
Good bands.. King Diamond is badass
Patton and anselmo
David Byron from Uriah Heep, Shadows on Grief is epic.
As far as metal goes it's either Bruce or Halford.
Bo88y Beretta & Ozzy Osbourne of course
Bruce for me...
I'll go with Halford & King
Makes no sense to mention them while leaving out Dio. Dickinson is my personal favorite but Dio is the progenitor and as good as there's ever been.
Finally someone got it right, right at the end. MIKE PATTON!!!
Respect for all the other vocalist, which i like most of them a lot, but really props to the last guy naming Patton. IMHO Patton is THE vocalist.
If we're talking death growls then Mikael Akerfeldt hands down. If not then probably Dio or Dickinson
Have you hear Mike Patton growl? Ever see the movie I am Legend?
@@itsalwayssomething7490 Patton doesn't really do death metal growls. Certainly not at the level of someone like Åkerfeldt. Of the vocalists mentioned in the video he's definitely got the widest range of techniques, but he's never really dealt in any sort of extended use of traditional death or black metal type vocals.
Nick Holmes
@@Hellenicheavymetal Nick Holmes is a legend, but he's obviously nowhere near as good as either of his Bloodbath predecessors at growling.
I don’t know about hands down, there’s always Tatiana 😍
Devin Townsend, Mike Patton or Myles Kennedy
Rob Halford, Corey Taylor, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osborne, Phil Anselmo, James Hetfield and King Diamond of course. In no particular order.
3:30 - Mike Patton. YEAH!
(And possibly Serj Tankian)
No mention of Geoff Tate? Are you kidding me?
Anyone who attended a Dark Tranquility concert will agree that Mikael Stanne is unmatched as for live performance, and both his growls AND his cleans are considered by a LOT as one of the best ever.
no corey taylor? really glad cj said patton, because that would be my next pick
Right off the bat, Dio, Dickinson and Halford. As it should be (no particular order). Love all the King Diamond references. Wild.
I know that there might be great singers in the world that I've never heard of, but from all of the famous ones, Rob Halford is the one I pick. Reason ? Just listen his screams from early 80's and you know why. His scream in live performance of Victims Of Changes in Dortmund 1983 drops me everytime, blows up my mind.
Why isnt anyone talking about Warrel Dane?
DUDE RIGHT
5 years in opera training and amazing vocals...no limelight :/
Warrel was even better as a lyricist in my opinion
He's embarassing nowadays.
Because he injured himself in refugee denied album and his range gets shorter after only 5 years, while I can sing all the songs on that album without hurting mine. I keep practicing till I have rob halfords peak vocal range and that will take some time... that guy is a beast! And you also have devin townsend (he is mike patton on steroids when it comes to metal music).
MIKE PATTON RULES
I LOVE the Mike Patton answer. Great fuckin' answer man.
Eric Adams of MANOWAR.. He's soooo UNderrated!!! THEY CAN'T STOP US LET THEM TRY, FOR HEAVY METAL WE WILL DIEEEE... What a voice..
Bruce Dickinson, of course. He has one of the greatest ranges and some of the best screams I've ever heard. No one comes close to him.
Eric Adams! The man's voice has fucking power, passion, and technical mastery. He's like a barbarian opera singer!
Daniel Heiman (Lost Horizon), Matt Barlow (Iced Earth), Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun), Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Christian Älvestam (Scar Symmetry)
asking this question is like asking who your favorite band is.
I would say Patton as well, but I'm a bit of a fanboy, when it goes to him. But it's closely follow by Mikael Åkerfeldt - he can do those crazy vocal changes.
Stu Block from Iced Earth
+Markus Kvassheim Stu is an awesome vocalist. I saw him live a few years ago. But I'm a die hard Barlow fan
3:27 He has a good point.
I can’t believe no one mentioned Russell Allen of symphony X And TSO. If you haven’t heard of him, check him out.
And a coked-up CJ mentions Mike Patton, too good
Randy Blythe 🤘🔥
what about metal church frontman or bobby from overkill
Rob Halford in my opinion, that guy can do miracles with his voice
Guess no one has heard of Devin Townsend or Geoff Tate....
Devin Townsend smokes a lot of people when I comes to pure singing talent. I second him.
Yeah, too bad Geoff's voice kinda burned out too quickly but man those live performances from early Queensryche was just insane.
Finally a Tate mention in comments
Tate was crazy good in his prime but he started later and burned out quicker than Bruce and Dio. Hard to put him up there without the longevity, consistency and worthwhile material.
