    Hi John,
I had the very same pinarello Vuelta a few years ago.
I built mine with Campagnolo Athena 11 SILVER groupset. Along with some Campagnolo Record 10 hubs SILVER.
That Pinarello Red colour with with silver Campagnolo components was a great combination.
I really regret selling it, great riding bike.

I'm from China. Although almost all mainstream sports bike frames are made in China now, few people here know and are interested in vintage/classic bikes. About 20 or more years ago, I saw some pictures of Columbine frames and was stunned by the pure beauty. But I have never seen them in real life or even in any video through these years. Thank you, John! This is the first time I can watch a video of Columbine frame. I'm stunned again as I was 20 years ago, although it only appeared briefly.

    • @maxwellspeedwell2585

Any decisions on the Pinarello? Just curious to see the final build. Too new for a Nuovo Record gruppo. Just a duck out of water. Maybe even too new for Super Record.
It reminds me of a beautiful bike from the same era. Can’t remember if it was a Rodriguez, or an Erickson. I asked Angel if I could take a few photos. Now I wish I could find those photos. The frame and parts just flowed together into a homogenous blend of art. That’s how I imagine the Pinarello. It will be exciting to see when it’s finished! Seriously, I’m starting to wonder if there is something wrong with us and our obsession….

the tandem with 2 front brake calipers caught my attention as i know someone who experimented with that a few years ago on his apollo. of course, now you need to apply twice the amount of pressure to the lever, and i believe braking efficiency is mostly correlated to brake pad pressure (?) and not surface area covered; and that's what my friend experienced.

Since the Pro's were using the 8 speed STI in 89, you could go full Shimano, with the Dual pivot brakes, Dura Ace seatpost, stem, and bars. OTOH, Shimano on Pinarello? Of course, in 89, people on Campy, still had 7 speed downtube shifting.

I had no idea there was still places to source NOS parts other than eBay. I've found some items I wanted on eBay but they were from Italy. I hired a custom steel frame builder to build me a vintage style lugged frame and I'm sure you know him, he's located in Baltimore, Md. The bike will have Campy Centaur 10 speed. The shiny silver aluminum components make the most beautiful bikes. The builder was telling me how difficult it is getting to find lugs which is why my build has been in the making for almost a year now but he found what I wanted and the frame is getting closer to going to paint. Anyway thanks for this video, it was awesome seeing this stuff.

I now know who to bother for those odd parts I need for my new acquisition. A (get ready. Drum roll please…) 1968 Paramount. Almost totally unmolested. 1968 was a bit of a watershed year. It’s old, but new enough that the Campagnolo components are semi-modern, and that can make the bike a daily driver. Until Colin Laing, and Masi (anyone I’m forgetting?) moved to the U.S. the Paramount was pretty much the American “Italian” exotic. I’m not really a Paramount guy, they just keep popping-up. Maybe in the Spring I’ll put my ‘74 up for sale. The price will be low, I need to thin the herd. Maybe I’ll do a brief video of the ‘68. Wait ‘till you see the stem!

Great video 👍👍👍 i have 2 projects on the go atm one is a restored/damaged 1990s Gios Centra.....50 aluminium, with a SLX fork, the other is an older colnago. Just out of curiosity, what would a late 70s/early 80s colnago Mexico (original petina), in good condition, be worth. It has no dents, but a few paint flakes, scratches and tarnishing here and there. It's pearl white, no electroplating, but has the C around the club on its fork. Brian Hawes built and raced it with ATTA in the 80s. It has a medley group set, Modolo professional (black) brakes, Mavic rear derailier, superb cranks, superb pro front derailier and I put some pearl white Sante shift levers on it.. it rides very nicely, and has no sag in the frame response 👌.
