i followed platinumwow and i can honestly say this is the most up to date i've ever been in my life
I'd be interested to hear how the non-casting magic wielding classes learned to use their skills. Originally a subtlety rogue was just a sneaky person who used very physical objects (powder to blind, rocks to distract, and even more powder to vanish). In legion they got reworked to become extremely adept shadow magic wielders who used the power of shadow to do the stuff they did before. It was a great direction to take the class, but no one really taught them how to do it. They just start out with a dagger stabbing people, and after stabbing enough people they can start teleporting, blinding, stealthing even in well-lit areas etc.

12:58 Death Knights were first created by the Horde during the Second War, by putting dead Shadow Council souls into dead Stormwind Knight bodies. That's how we got Teron Gorefiend, those Death Knights were more spellcaster based then the Lich King's melee based Death Knights. They also kept their personality, no Eternal Hunger bs to force them into being edgelords, they were edgelords before they became Death Knights.

Teron Gorefiend wasnt just a Death Knight, he was the first Death Knight. And the only reason he was willing to fight for the horde after receiving a power level that could have made him competitive for full blown rulership of the Old Horde, was because he was promised Azeroth as his planet to rule after it was conquered and the Horde would move on to assault more worlds.

so a slight correction, the newest generation of death knights (the allied races) do not have the craving to inflict pain seeing as that was a condition set upon death knights by arthas, bolvar seemingly just raised people and went 'hey bad things abouta happen, you wanna fight?'
I think this includes any DKs Bolvar raises, not just the allied races at least lore-wise. Might be wrong though

I always imagined Goblin Shamans are pretty creatively represented by their totems. Drills. They force the elements to do their bidding.
no, that would make them dark shamans, they still ask the elements for power, but, unlike others they do negotiations just like with everything else
Ultimately Shamanism is a peak example of favoritism at work. You can put hours into understanding the elementals but if they like someone else better you're never gonna surpass that someone
@@Jaquan018 Actually Shamanism is based on mutual respect. If the Elements don't like you, it's likely because you aren't doing enough to earn their trust to give you their blessings. It's not like they pick and choose you based on something that ISN'T your willpower and strength of character. You earn your power as a Shaman, you don't just study or grasp it like other casters.

LMAO I’ve roleplayed a magic user on WoW for 4+ years and am so happy after watching this video; it’s hilarious and spot-on. It's not super in-depth but it doesn't need to be; you've made an amazing primer for people who might not be up to date on the new lore Chronicle introduced as well as people who didn’t know the stuff to begin with.
I love that you emphasized how diverse interpretations can be by simply making good comedy out of those topics (the schools of arcane magic, for instance). It’s a hard line that could make a lot of dumb nerds mad if you don’t toe it right but I think you did this beautifully. Thank you so much for making it.

I don’t know any real lore about goblins and their shamanism, but my head cannon is that since they use a literal drill as their “totems,” they are essentially fracking for elemental power, enslaving the elements in a sense. A shaman’s ability to use elemental power can be taken away/refused, but not if you completely force the elements to serve you (which we have seen shamans do before in the lore.) It’s a clever and funny way of expressing the shaman magic combined with modern technology, in my opinion.
I love the Warcraft lore, but I do love those kind of videos. The mashup how they are serious and funny in the same time is some next level thing.
I love Goblin Shams, the thought of them aggressively drilling into the earth and abusing the elements for cash is pretty kickass.

I would like to mention that the Light itself is also a cosmic entity that bestows its power to those who fallow the Light's "vision" or "path". It does not care what it's power is used for as long as it apply to what the Light's plan. You lose these powers when the Light disagrees with you or if it doesn't help in the overall Light's goal. For example the Scarlet Crusade can kill all the innocent people and undead they want and still use light/holy magic, but when Arthas uses his power to do the same the Light abandons him.
Worth noting that necromancy can be achieved through basically any form of magic.

The light can apparently raise people into undeath
I believe drust use nature magic for necromancy
And I’m sure there’s an example of void necromancy somewhere.
Edit: forgot fel, guldan used fel to create the first death knights, orc warlock souls transplanted into human corpses.

Shit I didn’t even know about that back story for the goblin shamans. Damn that shit is goofy. But tbh, when I thought about it, none of the goblin classes make sense except for rogues lol (which quite appropriately is the most chicken shit class ever 😂)

Goblin warrior- the dudes are 3 feet tall and ain’t thicc like dwarves. Their ears are bigger than any other appendage. Don’t buy it.
Goblin hunter- I get the gun part but I can’t imagine a goblin taming anything that doesn’t understand the concept of currency (as goblins themselves don’t understand relationships that extend beyond transactions)
Goblin priest- lol the only thing goblins believe in is the power of capitalism
Goblin mage- kinda works but I can’t imagine goblins would choose the arduous path of being a mage when they could just yeet to the top with warlock magic
Goblin warlock- cheap shortcuts and transactions for easy power all at the low cost of souls? Yep, actually sounds like a goblin!
Goblin monk- yeah, just no
Goblin death knight- oh yeah, Arthas for sure walked by the corpse of a 3 foot tall Italian yoda and thought “yes this is the perfect champion to lead my armies in purging the living from Azeroth”
So yeah only rogues and warlocks really work logically lol
Yeah, there are many selectable class choice I question the logic behind.
Goblin hunter makes sense if you consider them owning and exploiting the pets. There are examples in the game of goblins controlling pets like the kodo tamer goblin in desolace.
Consider the goblin warrior again. Consider what a goblin is - condensed guido. Now, imagine that every goblin warrior is Joe Pesci. There you go, starting to make sense now?
Hunter is easy: You own and exploit the pet, or you trade it food for killing. Easy
Goblin Priests are just Televangelists. You know, the ones with huge churches that totally need a private jet so call in your donations now! The starting zone priest trainer is even standing on a stack of "tithes"
As for mage. It's a longer term investment that pays out better. Smart goblin

But priest is still a no. Unlike religion in our world, the light is a tangible force and doesn’t really work for you if you don’t believe in it or follow its tenets, as the video describes.

Small mistake, but not every demon race was "Uncorrupted" before the Legion. Races like the Dreadlords and Pit Lords were born of the nether as demons without ever needing to be corrupted.

It's interesting how many origins there are for Necrotic magic.
Kel'Thuzad achieved it through research of the Arcane.
Gul'Dan achieved it through research of the Fel.
And it generally employs Shadow, Frost, and (sort of) Fel elements.
13:37 dude, dude... you should hear about their progenitors the Death Knights from DnD. Their backstory on how they came to be, is pretty brutal. You have to be a fully committed paladin who undertakes some gruesome sin like killing your own soldiers or murdering your family, commit some rituals, kill like 30 some odd people, and you become completely immune to all physical damage and can't be destroyed unless your weapon is destroyed because it houses your soul from earlier rituals, and a whole bunch of crazy shit. DnD lore was really well written and I only appreciate it more as newer writers tainted by the dark influence of corporate revenue streams corrupted the talents and subverted many more into unholy economic efficiency.

Not all shamans must trade with the elements in order to access their powers. There is a taunka during the vashj ir questline that says that he can command the elements without having to do anything for them and that he would not want it any other way. Also there's the famous boat builder from the kul tiran unlock questline who literally just wanted help from whoever and the elements came without her having planned it.

I've just been deep diving into your channel. Your videos are incredibly well done. The story is what made me love the game and with this booty of a story shadowlands is giving us, I love coming to your videos and remembering why i love warcraft
Tauren are the only player character race that doesn't use fel or arcane magic, the two highly corrupting forms of magic. Tauren fel and arcane mages are rare but that doesn't mean they are non existent. I'm saying this because you can't just look at a race and think "they all act like this".
I like playing characters that are unique. My goblin shaman does their best to treat the elements with respect knowing that a contract is more efficient if both parties are willing and eager to help each other out. Just saying you can play whatever you want as long as it fits in with how the world works, not just within the limits of how some people think races have to act.
Agreed on liking to be unique but my goblin shaman is fully pimpin the elementals and my lightforged draenei death knight sometimes goes on MURDEROUS RAMPAGES with holy magic.
I once got a group of americans so triggered about my accurate alcoholic dwarf rp that they killed off prologue-wow rp in a fit of autistic rage when they realized you cant bully people into RPing your way, one of them was a roleplay Weaver, an invisible guy that Weave stories with player interactions, kinda like a Dungeon Master, that actively began to ruin events I participated in...
Considering how petty "normal" people behave over a drunken dwarf, imagine how they will behave if you mess up describing magic schools!

I enjoyed this video a lot, and it got me wondering about Shaman magic, more specifically the elemental lords and their elemental servants. Could you maybe make a video covering what the elementals are, their lore, their personalities, and if they are good, or evil? Especially in relation to key characters like Thrall.

Why couldnt they be paladins? Lorewise they are not like human paladins... instead of using the power of the moon they are using the power of the sun, which makes sense for them since they have a bug history with their relationship with moon/sun.. i guess they could have been Paladins before that but i just dont understand how players decides when /they/ are not resoecting X aspect of a game THEY are making
New combinations DO make sense, like dwarven mages appeared when the dark iron clan rejoined the alliance. They have been none forever to be magic wielders.
You guys missed my point. I have no issues with Dwarf / Night Elf Mages, Human Hunters, etc. those are totally fine. What I was referring to was races & combinations like Panda Death Knights for example. Blizzard didn’t REALLY care about that when it come to lore. Demon Hunters being NE & BE only is excellent according to lore. But something random like Draenei DH? I know it doesn’t exist. But if it did, that’d be odd.

Incorrect. Fel guards, doom guards, succubi, and other such demons were NEVER uncorrupted; they were born of the Twisting Nether itself, and have always been demons.
Also, Eredar were NOT once Draenei; it's the other way around. Draenei were once Eredar, but changed their name to "exiled ones" in their language after their planet was corrupted and the term "Eredar" came to be synonymous with "Demon".
ALSO, the broken were NOT created by "rejecting the influence of the fel". Seriously dude, where are you getting all this info? This is all basic stuff from Chronicle AND previous lore that you're just getting wrong. The broken were created when the orcs unleashed a Fel mist on Shattrath that severed their connection to the Light.

Every time I hear that Dalaran music it takes me back to WotLK... I’m looking forward to Classic Wrath, as I’m sure most people are, I think there are probably more people hungry for that than Classic or Classic BC... but it never ceases to amaze me how even just hearing a few seconds of music can take one back in time.
Im looking forward to laughign at people as they find out how dogshit Wrath was compared to vanilla and TBC. Naxx was an absolute joke of a raid. Ulduar will be good if they dont include all the nerfs that fucking tank its difficulty for the first 80% of the raid to shit. Trial is a trial for the player to mentally endure. ICC was okay.

So I got the book explaining the whole lore for my 21st birthday last year and it's really a great book, but this kind of videos is perfect because that's an entertaining way of learning and understanding things, good job!

Think what you want about a Warcraft movie, but one of the things it had actually done well as the way magic is portrayed. Arcane and Fel look astonishing in both the visual effects and the interaction with the environment - probably, one of the best portrayals of magic on big screen. Quite sad that the movie flopped - it had such a great potential...
