What a car, I had the 2 litre version on a W plate when I was 19. Absolutely loved it. Looking forward to watching this series. I'm subbed.... I'm all in. Good luck 👍
I had the 1979 1600GL in beige. Bought it myself at 19, insured it all myself. Sold it and bought a Fiat Panda 4x4 a couple of years later in 1985. I bought a black 2.8i in 1987, but it turned out to be a dog.
I had 5 in total of these in the mid 80's and early 90's, 3 Capri MK1'S and 2 MK2'S v6 3ltrs. The little round picture to the left was taken in1986 it was my MK1 3ltr GXL manual, The body work and underneath look in good shape and sounds good, even better with a new exhaust. Be nice to see and hear it running down the road. Cheers Stu Tube1
That’s a great collection of capris you’ve had, bet you wish you still had at least one of them now. Yeah getting it running down the road is the aim, little by little I’ll get there.
Love this. Really looking forward to the next instalment. My favourite car ever was my 1980 3.0s in silver. It got nicked and never recovered. Keep up the great work.
Needs a battery 🔋 boost @ "10:25", so glad to see an Essex given a second chance of life in the iconic Capri. I have seen an Essex also used in a Vauxhall Magnum as a means of repowering. In South Africa 🇿🇦 they have a V8 Capri called Perana 😮 I'm sure you'll treasure the moment despite the weather to achieve perfection 😊❤ BTW, greetings from downunder New Zealand 🇳🇿
South Africa 🇿🇦 also had their own take on the humble Vauxhall Firenza, which they then called Chevrolet Firenza Can-Am 😮 powered by an American V8 from the Chevrolet Camaro and used an American gearbox from Muncie, incidentally by the same name. All original examples were painted 🎨 in a unique black & white livery with black head lining upholstery 😮 The familiar 7 dial dash and manual Vauxhall stick shift ( reverse collar ) continues. However, the steering column and engine bay was totally revised to enable the larger engine.😮 In New Zealand 🇳🇿, I am also familiar with Buick V6 ( 3800cc ) from the Holden Commodore ( Australia ) also retro fitted to the slant 4 Vauxhall Magnum. Those South African Chevrolet's numbered only just about 100. Similar numbers to the British Droop Snoot 😮 Thanks for the reply, happy new year ❤
Had a mint polar white 3.0 Ghia ‘81 auto - would love to know if it’s still around , the last 3 numbers on the reg plate were 81w - fantastic drivetrain.
Here in Australia, yes we had the ford Capri but I’ve never seen one like this before! I really like it and that V6 sounds fab! I’ve seen a number of cars online now from the UK and I like most of them. I sure hope that you succeed in getting the ol girl running and driving, definitely worth saving I say. I also own two classic cars (on my channel) both very different to what you’re showing here. Check it out. See what you think. Best of luck mate 👍
I love a Capri never owned one myself but used to drive my many 28i ones she had and had plenty of fords Xr3 escort and MK1 fiesta super sport was the best ones I had like 20 years ago but everything is stupid money so I've got a focus MK1 5 door 1.6 full service history 30k miles that was £1300 and only worth £700 to the insurance and in good condition for a 2004 only had to weld it once and it's solid now just rust on the rear arch lips just taken the paint off I don't blame you on not going over the top on a restoration as you going to use it as a daily car
Love the Essex engine. Hope you're prepared for the fuel bills as a daily driver 😂 make sure you get the heads fitted with hardened seat valves and only use super unleaded. Might be a stupid question but did you know they have a choke that works from the throttle pedal being fully depressed before starting? Push it to the floor and release then start, that's the automatic choke on those carbs.
My first car was a 1.6 Ford Capri Laser, it was slow and the steering was so heavy but I loved it. Did the Ghia have power steering or was it only the 2.8i?
So satisfying hearing an engine fire up for first time in decades. I did it with a Subaru legacy , like you new oil filter before any cranking - great video at one point you revved it and that 6 pot sounded great.👍
All mk3’s v6’s not sure when it was introduced but I know at least some of the mk1 v6’s didn’t. I only know one person with a mk2 v6 and I can’t recall if it has or not.
Great video. Good luck with getting the Capri back on the road. I had many Capris, and my last 2.8 had to be sold as my ex-wife bought a stupid big pram, too big for the boot of A816HSM, my Caspian Blue Capri.
Hiya.. Mate I wish you could of done a longer more detailed video.. Maybe in a garage with some lighting.. You're obviously a talented guy and know your stuff. Please think about maybe expanding your knowledge out to us dummies maybe inside a garage then uou will get more viewers earn more money to pay for a garage.. I love watching old ford's being done up, you could make some income off it as well.. More please.. Regards.. James.. Bristol
Cheers James. To be honest just finding my way as I go with this UA-cam lark. I take my hat off to all the more professional UA-camrs out there, it’s a real faff moving the camera around and capturing what I can see from my viewpoint if that makes sense. Next episode is 80% done, it’s a good bit longer and a little bit more detail. Hopefully they improve as I go. Cheers
Whilst very ill around 30 +years ago in Guernsey lost !my parked up Capri exactually ked far better🤷♂️jut like that one even scracth on the back, its not it but , o! and rear bumper no! chance it's return just 😡🤬🤬😡.

Oh mate! I’m just loving the Sporen reg plate on the Kia😂🤣
Came here from the Capri Power forum, enjoyed the video, subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!

Thanks for the comments, yeah perana Capri, now that would be nice. A few have made there way to the UK but not aware of any up in Scotland.

The Essex best engine for the Capri. Had one in my 3.0 Granda mark 1.

From the Netherlands: good job. Some tlc and the diva will be fine 😉.

@@stevesmith9351 yeah tell me about it did one of them a few years back and had no end of issues getting it to run. Hate the mfi gubbins

@StueyTube all the v6 capri’s had it - very heavy engines , a cylinder head off of one of these is like an anvil !
3000cc? Must have been one of the last 3 litres before the 2.8i came out.
2.8 came out in 81 I believe. This is a June 79 car so be a few after it. Quite rare as a manual though, most ghia’s were automatic
Great video. Good luck with getting the Capri back on the road.

I’ve had a few Ghias all with the chrome trim (but not a Mk3) - no Ghia badges on this one?
@ it’s had paint at somepoint, so might have gone missing then. I’d assumed it was supposed to have the ghia logo on the front wing but not 100% sure.
@ I’m not sure. All of mine were Mk2s so they all had solid enamel/chrome Ghia badges. However I’m wondering if Mk3s just had vinyl Ghia logos? 🤔

Very much.
Such a shame the modern day Ford designers have come up with such an awful remake of the classic icon.
