    Excellent lesson Dave. and great timing. I just got my first tomahawk and I need to make a sheath or cover for it. I can't wait for Part 2. Thanks for keeping things real with all your videos, too. Take it easy- Bryan

    Tandy leather factory sells all kinds of great leather and leather working tools, I picked up a small kit for making knife sheaths and things pretty cheap, they always have leather and tools on sale. The waxed thread works great for this stuff.
    I found that Purgatory Ironworks has a few very helpful videos for making these kinds of things, I followed his teachings and have found many helpful tips, like gluing everything in place first with rubber cement, and drilling out the thread holes with a dremel and a 1/16" bit too.
    If my small forest axe hadn't come with a leather sheath, I'd be making one just like this too!

    I really like this video, Dave. Nice to see instruction on how to make this kind of thing. Self reliance is a great thing.

    Excellent!!! QUESTION-The WELT: How does the axe blade fit against the welt? Does it fit up to it or does it fit side by side to it? Is the welt to stop the blade from cutting through the stitching and mask? Wow!!! You're the MAN!!! Amazon

    you can tack the leather down so it wont shift when you have to hammer a bunch of holes.

    you should try using braided fishing line for thread, its just as thin as cotton thread but ten times stronger. it also melts well so you can have extra strong and clean knots. jmo
    p.s. ive even used it on my bow to tie on the peep sight.

      @KayakTater 10 років тому

      While the strength of braided fishing line is great, the main problem is when you pull your stitches, has a nasty habit of cutting the leather

    Excellent project, thanks for posting it. You mention that to make it bullet proof you would use bank line. What size bank line would you use for stitching? Thanks!

    What is the purpose of the welt? I thought is was something you were going to put all the around the sides and bottom. But just on the one side confused me as to its purpose. Great video Dave.

    What's that long handled ax farthest to your left at the edge of the table? I don't think I've seen that in any of your videos (Though I haven't seen them all, I'm still working on that).
