    Went to McDonald's for the first time in 2 years and ordered 3 things that used to be on the dollar menu - regular hamburger, small fries and small coffee. It used to be $3 and change. I was shocked when it came out to be nearly $8! No more!

    Being a former restaurateur, there are only two things that people go to restaurant for; high quality food and good service and that the problem with most chain restaurants is that they can't deliver on both of these metrics.

      Sometimes though people (used to) need a hang out. Pizza hut buffet was an example of that. People don't go out just to have somewhere to go. I think in the 80's/90's we just built too many restaurants along with malls. As the looming depression comes, we have too many.

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 11 місяців тому +1

      Pretty much. The problem with big chains is that financial reward for serving low quality food is just too high to ignore. Your local non-chain restaurant isn't going to bother saving $0.45 on a meal by using cheap ingredients. The overall reward is small and the risk is too high as they can't withstand poor reviews from the locals. Big chains see that $0.45 multiplied by millions upon millions of meals and the CEO will get a fat bonus for saving money so they do it time and time again until the food that made them famous is barely recognizable now.

    The trouble with Burger King is their coupons/offers are not UNIVERSAL!! You get coupons from a source such as Save(Red Plum) your local Burger King 70% of the time will not accept them or accept Burger King gift cards bought at a department store! And the problem even gets worse!!!!,if they accept the coupons,you can only get the deal on that one coupon or app coupon!! Other parts of the order will be charged to you at full price without any combo or other discounts! Say for example you have a coupon for two whoppers and two fries and two drinks for ten dollars and you want also an Italian chicken combo meal that is on the menu for eleven dollars,you will not pay eleven dollars for the Italian chicken combo meal,you will pay the ala carte price which will drive that eleven dollar Italian chicken combo meal up to at least fifteen dollars and after taxes,you are talking about twenty-eight dollars! This has been how Burger King has been ripping off customers since the late 1980’s!!! And customers are fed up with their bullshit and games!!

    Burger King's failure with the Ch'King Sandwich exemplifies everything wrong with the brand. They finally had a tasty, quality chicken sandwich that people enjoyed, and they killed it off because producing high quality chicken sandwiches is harder than producing low quality ones (paraphrase from the mouth of CEO Jose Cil). Rather than rising to the operational challenge, they killed the sandwich and replaced it with an obviously inferior sandwich. Put another way, rather than elevating the brand, they opted to be cheap.

    Fast food was successful because it was convenient. When Americans were out shopping for the day and then lunchtime or dinnertime rolled around, it was oh so easy to just stop and get fast food since the restaurants were right there mixed in with the other stores. American shopping habits have changed with the internet. We buy most everything online which means you now have to go out of your way to get fast food, and it's just not worth it.

Rent for 3 bedroom home with fenced in yard, and a working fireplace was 35 dollars a month.....These so called food places of today, and car dealers, and petroleum prices are ridiculous....The politicians have steadily worked at destroying our nation, and impoverishing Americans, and no one seems to notice this...Very sad for all of us...I am turning 72 years of age, and soon will no longer walk among the living....I pray for my grandchildren, and the future they will have to face in coming days ahead....I miss the good ole days...

    Why is Pizza Hut on this list? They were losing market share many years ago and as for promising it's customer base to uphold it's level of quality and service. You forgot to mention that several years ago they reengineered many of it's ingredients thereafter it was not the same great pizza it once was. They closed 5 stores within a 10 mile radius of me back in 2016. Long before Covid and these crazy numbing prices for food and service that we are paying today.

    Being in the later baby boomer group, I/we have been getting away from eating at fast food and dine-in restaurants, even before the pandemic, as the cost and quality was no longer satisfactory. Also, reducing/eliminating credit card debt and building up savings/IRAs in preparation for retirement (and retirement), was in play here as well.

    I await the day when I see McDonald's on a list like this. Floors are always sticky, customer service isn't always good, during covid-19 one time I had to go up to the drive up window to let them know that I was there because they wouldn't answer the phone when I was sitting on their patio & a few times they made my order wrong. Who puts onions on a mcchicken sandwich anyway or uses a bottom bun for a top bun on any sandwich anyway

    I used to work at a Pizza Hut Red Roof Restaurant in St. Charles, Missouri. It's always great after a cold weather high school football game. Across the street was a Burger Chef. Great Burger place that had a fixins bar. If I only had a quarter, I would get the small burger and load it up with a pound of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Result: a full meal. Our Burger Chef became a Hardies. The Pizza Hut is gone. I hope the Hardies is still there.

      The bible is a BOOK of nonsense too - people who believe it are brain dead. ALL you have to do is actually read the whole thing - starting from the beginning - KNOWING the reality of the universe and you know there is something wrong. Example - if a god is ALL KNOWING- past present and future - then you cannot have Free Will. YOU can only do what the god has already known you will do ANd YOU cannot have made the choice before you existed too. If you disagree - remember - to have TRUE free will -you have to be able to choose something that the God does not know. THen of course the idea that the earth from creation if less than 6000 years old is pure nonsense. In addition - there was NO letter "J" in any language in the world until 1400CE. SO no Joseph, no joshua, no Jericho, No James, no John, and no jesus among others. It is all a scam. The god did not make ALL plants for humans to use for foods - there are poisonous plants. No worldwide flood ever happened as described. Among the errors in the story - they had NO FISH on the Boat - but the mixing of the Fresh and Salt water would have killed ALL marine life - and a column of water the height of Mount Everest would have Pulverized all man made objects plus virutally everything else. The salt from the water would have rendered the soil infertile for hundreds of years too. And there is not a single mention of the Christ in ANY contemporary account of the time of his supposed life - the actual GOLDEN AGE OF ROME. WE have full accounts of Turtle races in Jerusalem - but not a single mention of a guy who supposedly rose a rotting corpse from the grave - sure - Humans created these stories to keep the uneducated masses in check - religion is man made nonsense and what the Bible says is human created too.

    The Merritt Island Dairy Queen has been there for many decades and is very popular. They have rarely redecorated, updated the entire menu or add credit cards to their place. All cash. Rumor has it that DQ insisted they take credit cards and spend money on upgrades. The owners are super successful their way and don’t want to change. As a local customer who gets the issues I am entirely on the local side. I will buy ice cream from them even if they change brand names.

      Olive Garden Breadsticks are super popular - I don't eat there often but those experiences were good and most people I know at least also view them favorably. I think any issue with Olive Garden from my antecdotal experience is their repeat customer base may not frequent them as often as other chains. But that's why it's hard to derive a macro trend out of individual experiences.

    I love these restaurants and use to go them. Because of the cost of gas, food, and everything else, I had to cut my eating out. I can't even afford to eat at McD because they doubled the cost over the last 2 years. The current direction is so wrong for the average Joe, Only the rich can afford gas and I can't afford an EV nor the cost to install a charge. As a Electrical Engineer there is not enough power or the ability to bring it to my house to go green and pay everyone a high wage.

    If you are paying so lowly, with such expensive bills, that your staff can't afford to eat there, then you are likely to go out of business.
