  • DWIGHT TWILLEY BAND - 'Twilley Don't Mind' (Arista, rel: 1977) (1970s US power pop/rock)
The Dwight Twilley Band's second album 'Twilley Don't Mind' is proto-power pop with a lean and mean sound. Influences from 1950s rockabilly, mid-60s Everly Brothers and of course the Beatles are much in evidence.
Fans of Tom Petty will also find much to enjoy here. He provides guitar on one of the stand-out tracks, 'Looking For The Magic'. As an aside, Petty even made his television debut with the Dwight Twilley Band, playing bass on 'Then I Remember' on US kids' show Wacko.
The band consisted of Dwight Twilley on guitar and piano, and Phil Seymour on drums and bass. They shared lead and harmony vocals. Seymour quit after this album to pursue a solo career, and very sadly passed away in 1993.
This is a 'Vinyl Melange Cheap 'n' Cheerful' production for fans of 1970s US power pop / rock, the VC vinyl community, record collecting and record reviews.

Hi Thomas. First off, thanks for subscribing. I really appreciate it ... I like CDs, but it's still good to have your favourites on vinyl.

Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour were great together; like an updated version of the Everly Brothers for the 1970s.

I was the original bass player in the original Oister. We were a sharp four piece band divided up by a record company , notice whose picture is on the first single and album “Sincerely” I played bass on several of the Sincerely songs. My name is listed on that album. The infighting began because of the Narcissistic Selfishness that Quickly sat in.I’m available for questions. I was on American Bandstand with the band and also played on several cuts on the Twilley don’t mind album , I hated the direction this album took and thought it mostly meaningless gibberish.

Hi Johnny. Thanks for watching and commenting. It was interesting to hear about your involvement with the band. I really like a lot of the stuff, together and apart, by Phil Seymour and Dwight Twilley ... I've always thought it was a strange move changing the name of the band and putting the focus on Dwight Twilley. If the issue was Shelter thinking the name Oister wasn't commercial, I'm sure a better name could have been chosen. Perhaps then the band would have lasted longer. Best wishes, Carl
