Tijuana, Mexico, is a limbo for deportees from the United States. People keep showing up in the city while U.S. immigration policies get tougher. Between 2002 and 2012, deportations to Mexico more than doubled, from 122,058 to 306,870, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Many were deported for non-violent or relatively minor infractions.
In many cases, these deportees are returned to a country where they might have been born but know little about as adults. They might speak little or no Spanish, and are further seen as pariahs for sporting gang tattoos. Opportunities for work in Tijuana remain limited for such deportees, except in a sector that is enjoying a boom period in Mexico, telemarketing.
Call centers offer English-speaking deportees a chance to have a steady income in jobs-strapped Mexico. They also get to put their language skills to use. Telemarketers gain a geographically close work-force of English native-speakers, but at Mexican labor costs. VICE News traveled to Tijuana to meet a few of the thousands of deportees who were raised in the United States and are now forming new lives back in Mexico, thanks to their steady jobs at a U.S. call center.

@@justinrussell3166 facts bro im in Tijuana and call centers are the best we can get.
In my opinion teloro is the worst call center in Tijuana...i use to work there trying to sell solar panels...they should have done this on CCSI call center its the best call center in tijuana bases pay is 3000 pesos a week plus monthly performance bonus paid in dollars and great government benefits to.yes tijuana is not the best city but if u really want to do good u can live a great live...im to deport but lives great out here not that stress fast paste like in los Angeles ca.im big chilling with a 40oz west up

Wait what..you're American enough to become a US marine, but you're not welcome to live in the country you risk dying for? lol that's a fucked up system
Jonte Ded Ya it happens because they are convicted felons and lose the privilege of completing their citizenship.
Makes sense now right?
evofd You mean that they committed the crime AFTER joining/leaving the marines? If that's true, then yes it makes sense.
02Nawal Huh?
+Jonte Ded ya if he was israeli they wouldn't do that sadly
+Michael Taylor America is a joke.
if you put them in line next to each other, they would look like the homies toy collection.

Lol that’s so true
The SUR on that guy's chest is a gang, not a republic. It means Sureńo. A southern Mexican Gang.
Banana A Southern California U.S. Chicano gang homie. Fixed it for you!
G Man nah bro la eMe (the Mexican mafia) is more or less it’s own. Some sureno cliques both 13/18 are known to work with associates of the mob crews which are still active but that’s mostly in N.Y
The Italian mob don’t have that much of a stronghold on the west coast which the major sureno gangs are located.
Yes, I didn’t know what those words meant but it was obvious to me that style of tattooing.
No it does not. SUR stands for Southeren United Raza.
Definitely not a southern MEXICAN gang. It’s very much American
honestly if you got deported for drugs you should consider yourself lucky. I'm america we have super long prison sentences. I'd rather live in Mexico then live in a prison
they get the time also. i know someone deported for like Dui related shit he had to do time and the process is iffy too because you cant let your family know because you dont know of there gonna drag them back either.
+JordiBoi Hancho they do the time and get deprted i mean
you usually get deported "after" serving time
libertarian objectivist they serve the time of sentenced then get deported
Oh
Kudos to you Señor Raul you have turn your life around and that’s something to be proud of.
Con todos mis respetos.
there is no way they should be able to deport someone who served in the military. that's some fuckery
Man... It's incredible to think that only TWO years ago $1,400 mxn was $110 usd. Now? It went down to about $70 usd
Yes and now 100 dollars is like 1900 pesos (now it’s alittle over 2000 due to gas prices down)
STFU that ain’t true I been back and forth over last 10 years and $1400 pesos ain’t never been no $110 dlls. WtF.
RAMON ARELLANO depends where you went
Jbizzle2 STFU
It's pretty simple. If your here in America illegally DON"T COMMIT CRIMES and you most likely would not be deported.
Even tho I’m a northerner, I still have a decent mindset and respect of the hard working people who came for a better life, rather than ruining a system
Thats a Gang affiliated tattoo on his stomach!
WOW REALLY 😯
“They’re not violent criminals..” except for the one guy who owned up to committing aggravated assault.😣😳
Sometimes we dont want to learn through other people's experiences and the consequences of that can be VERY harsh.
dude...i can feel these dudes pain it realy sux i left the US voluntarily in 2010 i lived in Jalisco and now I live in Tijuana. My mom took me to the United States when i was only 8 months old and i grew up in California in the San Bernardino county i turned 22 years old when i was arrested for spousal battery. (Allgedly) the girl i was with at the time said i had hit her when i never touched her. She even went in to jail to visit me crying saying she was sorry. i havent talked to her since and now im married ive been married for 3 years now and im working on getting my visa and getting back into the states THE LEGAL WAY i have waited patiently for 4 years going on 5 now all my family is in california I dont belong out here in mexico there is nothing for me here. I pray that i can go back soon i just wanna go back and work and take care of my wife and kids
Good luck homie, I’m in the states right now and I hope to only ever go to Mexico as a tourist and not as a deportee. I hope you get the life you want 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I wish you the best as well
i worked at a call center doing tech support. the job was awful and soul-crushing, having to deal with stupids and elderly, but otherwise it was a great place with great people.
97 months..... dang bro more then 8 years is more like it!! Lol
Life can be tough aye? As a senior citizen I can fill all of youtube regards my miss treatment injustice too. But guess what folks, learn to play or be prepared to pay. Just because a person is or has been in a military service does not guarantee a special ride through life.
BULLSHIT they are deported over a ticket! Todays communities do NOT have funding to tie up limited police officers, limited admin to process immigration holds. If they do, its usually involving felonies. Think Budget people.
There is a process for entering the country period. I would like to see video on what are the people of Mexico doing to make their own country a wonderful place to be. I am tired of assuming all of the displaced people's burdens to America. This is exactly why American voters voted in Trump.
Every Nation has laws regarding obtaining citizenship. Why should America be any different?
well they all did something to get there they werent just watching tv and get deportd
Jay Dee exactly
Jay Dee 80% of deportees were arrested and deported after they reported that they were VICTIMS of crimes.
How do you know?
ppl who get deported deserve it, as a consequence of their own actions, speaking as someone who got deported to Mexico just recently because I repeatedly broke the law and was in and out of prison.
20 pesos = 1USD

If people would actually give gang members a chance in life they would see that alot of us look hard core tated down but most of us Are respectful people with morals and Values more then regular people due to us being thru more of a struggle seeing how are parents would struggle too...
they deserve a second chance so have a niceee life in mexico, lmao!
People need to understand to obey the Laws of the United States of America.
They laughed at him at 58 when he said he thought he was American.
Companies shouldn't be allowed to do business in the United States if they pay their employees under minimum wage. It shouldn't matter if they have an office in mexico where they can take advantage of people and pay them 2 dollars an hour. Everyone at that company should be making 12 dollars an hour. At least with 2k a month they could live a decent life in mexico. A company couldn't pay their employees 2k a month in the US because rent alone is 1500.
I have never met anyone being deported for a traffic violation. Probably more to it.
The life in Mexico is good but these guys are not used to work hard, but in Mexico you can do a decent living , and not suffer from racism.
I guess you didn't hear the guy that he's a marine veteran you should get your ears checked
@@whyyoumad1168 Well somebody messed up.
We need more support centers if people get deported why not get the opportunity in your own country to become a hard working citizen. We need support centers to help with job, finding a home, even starting school there. why try to have the life you wanted in the US if you can also have it in your own country with the right help and guidance.
I wish all these new immigrants take a look at how hard it is to live in their country and appreciate ours.
makes me wonder how many times I've talked on the phone with a deported sureno trying to get his life on track..

Diana Servin You don't have to be a citizen. Residents, for example, can serve in the military
news.vice.com/video/deported-veterans-of-america
You don't get deported for not being a citizen, you have to commit a crime. Serving in the military is a path to citizenship for aliens, but can easily be messed up by committing even a minor crime.

You know this video really caught my attention I was deported to Guatemala in 2011. I been here ever since and have been working in call center for almost 8 years now. There's about 30 call centers, won't mention any names, but honestly the call centers have saved our lives and kept us with a stable. Unfortunately, the friends that I had in the past some have past away or been killed in this city. I don't have any intentions of going back to the USA. I have a stable job and plus have a car part business on the side. Just wish my friends wouldn't have gotten killed pretty messes up. Guatemala is a whole different country and wish you seened what I witnessed while living out here. Blessings to our neighbors (Mexico). Same situation, different country. Blessings!

Reading this 3 years later. Youve been woke. Make Mexico great again. We need to go back and make it through with the skills we've gained in the USA. Since they don't want us
Way easier said than done!! There is ways to make a good living, but the rich that are in power will not help you. That’s the way it is everywhere, where there is a Industry, there are the owners and then there are the slaves that get paid barely enough to survive. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, all I’m saying is that ,”that is the way it is”
Invest on border cities buy property or start a business. You have a better chance of buy a beach house in Mexico than in the states..Learn to invest in Mexico and you will not regret it.Its not easy to change Mexico it’s barely changing but that thanks to the internet

It’s all great until a customer pisses them off and they start tirando varrio through the phone lol
I can agree to see why most of these deportees can be "deserved" to be deported. But deport a vet ? No way man. Deporting a vet is disrespectful, they put their life on the line serving our country and protecting it. And then deport them because they ran a red light or not paying fines as minor crimes?
I agree.
Chew you up and spit you out. They don't care...I thought most people were aware of that.
Vets aren't special. I served 10 years in the Armt, and there are plenty of scumbags in the Army.

After living in the U.S. for 50 years, I was deported. At times life has been difficult because at my age not much is expected. But the most difficult part of this is that those family members who are American citizens have forgotten me or turned their back on me completely. In their hearts since I am a deportee, I am less than worthy. All too soon their phone calls and text messages stopped. Today I am alone in my thoughts, memories, and prayers.
Don't sweat it. At least you know they were never your friends. God bless.
Don’t worry it’s never late to start your own new family live fully and so what you want and love, your thoughts and time are not worth people who don’t take the time to think about you… BEST LUCK YOU GOT THIS !

I agree that all people need hope. Unfortunately, many of these people chose to initially disregard America's sovereign laws and illegally enter the country. The choice to move forward with further criminal behavior ultimately led to their deportation. The truth is, many of us as citizens, don't want you back. It is a negative attitude, which will trigger unpleasant feelings and responses, but that kind of rhetoric wouldn't do anything to manifest sympathy for you. Our self preservation as a society and indeed a nation, TRUMPS your feelings.

this seems to make the case for deportation, the guy was in prison, now he is employed in Mexico.
my experience may be of some value ,i don't know . there is a hatred for white people by many latins that is very real.
I was walking in Idilewile park on the 24th of january 2019, I walked east on the paved asphalt path with a dotted line in the middle ,i was on the right side, as i got with about 1/4 mile of the east end i saw a tight group of what i thought were 40 kids walking toward me taking a huge area including my side of the path, as i got close i assumed they would let me thru, some older gang members were in the center unbeknownst to me ,they bumped me , i put up my hands to block the next bump and connected slightly with one guy, he started screaming in spanish and many others did too. in seconds i was surrounded and beaten while the rest of the group got to the side, i started running and was tackled, beaten very bad, broken ribs, kicked in the head ,back stomped and kicked for a good period of time kicking my head sides and stomping my legs, i saw a bigger guy carrying a huge boulder about 15 inches x 8 inches x 5 inches thick. he tried 3 times to smash my head with it. i rolled to avoid each time or i would be dead, 2 park workers pulled up about 50 ft away and the thugs ran.
These men called the police, gave me towels to soak the blood and said it looked like 8 or 9 latin gang members.
The police and paramedics detained me for more than an hour. many more details but thats enough for you to get a good idea what happened. I'm a 58 yr old male ,irish background. I never said a word and only wanted to walk thru the park.
I believe they had a hatred for my skin color, what else could it be ?
Anyway i tried to tell some different people , no one really seemed to care until i told my friends i mentioned. sometimes things like this may need to be known .

The way I see it bro its gods world not these motherfukers trying to run it but this sons of bitches got the power and we can't do shit I was deported and it was a blessing from god cause I came back to where the money is the USA and we gotta stack this money while we can man tell your uncle to start stacking his money to build a house wherever he is from to send a car and to just send what he wants cause sooner or later they will get us and its just gonna get harder at the border
Carlos Lara yeah man i understand what you mean, mexicans have earned a bad reputation because of the cartels who smuggle drugs and other stupid shit but it is not like that, the majority are only here for a better life, job opportunities, and also for their kids to have a chance at an education. but yeah many of my family members, including my parents, have already begun to build their homes in the pueblo they grew up in
