I didn't know that critics had panned "The Hunger", a film I thoroughly enjoyed. David Bowie is great, in my opinion, and the, uh, duet between Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon, with the "Duo des Fleurs" music from the opera "Lakmé" as accompaniment, deserves to be treated as classic cinema, imho.

A very cool list, nicely avoiding (most of) "the usual suspects" - thank you!
One sour note about your commentary though, & that's regarding your surprisingly old-skool sexist 'Pro Tip' warning to "not show (Of Unknown Origin) to your girlfriend, especially if she's terrified of rats", implying that not only is horror still almost exclusively a "boyzone" genre, but also that women cannot cope with "rat horror" the way that men can*. Other than that one gripe, nice work!

Watched this low budget little beauty and couple of nights ago. Tomato Man Tries for the 70's grindhouse style and almost succeeds. Is it bad? Of course it is. What else would you expect going into it? Very few grindhouse were technically good movies. So sit back and let the badness sweep you away. It's only one lost hour that you'll never forget no matter how hard you try.
Tomato Man caught in on the right night. If i were in the wrong state of mind I would have probably tossed this in the " never to be watched again" pile. As it is, I will most likely revisit this a few more times. Not to mention foisting Tomato Man on a few unsuspecting friends. That, my friends, is one of the joys of being a "bad movie connoisseur". Is 9 a little high for this type on film? I can only say that I really enjoyed it.The acting was atrociously funny and/or annoying. The camera work was okay (and that's being generous). The terrible music actually fit the mood of the film. Matthew Enstrom, evidently the mastermind behind Tomato Man, has directed a couple other films that I will check out if I can locate copies.Hopefully this isn't the last we hear from him. It's free on youtube now ... Check it out

Ok..after 30 years I'm gonna finally say it! How the flip is The new kids ever considered to be a horror movie?! I rented this movie when I was 10 as I religiously rented movies every weekend. Always rented horror movies. Then I rented this. Thought horror like hey monsters, gore, you know real horror movies. So I was like when are monsters gonna come out or some evil entity or something scary? Then it was over and this movie stuck with me for years! I always debated this movie as being a drama suspense movie. How the hell it ever got labeled and classified as horror baffled me for 3 decades. I know in the 80s classification was determined differently and once it labeled it normally stays that way. Then I see it on this recommended horror flicks to watch! I had to say something. This is a good movie but in no way shape or form is it a horror movie! Christine was about bullies but cause the car was alive and murderous the movie easily passed as horror. This movie is literally all drama with some mystery barely. Some suspense. Horror though. How? It's a bully movie where someone has enough and sticks up for themselves. Guess cause people died it became horror. Nobody ever could ever answer why this is classified as horror.

The Hunger was a good movie. But as I recall her lovers stay alive and immortal, the real catch is that they age and stay immortal as aged corpses laying in their coffins.

Thanks for the tips. Very useful. BTW, I think "Diabolique" is a French film. All the actors are French, as is the language.

Why does no one ever talk about the old gem titled "The Ugly"?

      From the 90s?
I somewhat remember it, but I never saw the full movie, only like an hour of it. I remember it being about psychologist trying to understand a killer, with some cool scenes.
I rented it with my girlfriend and I never got to see the last third of the movie, because we got “distracted.”
      Gotta look for it now!
Thanks for reminding me of the movie!
