  • A playthrough of Flying Edge's 1993 license-based platformer for the Sega Master System, The Addams Family.
The SMS version was only released in PAL territories, hence the framerate of this video.
The Addams Family is a pretty excellent game. It's the same core game as the NES one, but they're pretty strikingly different games. The reason? This version improves on the original NES in (nearly) every way. The graphics are a huge step-up in quality, and have been all redone to take advantage of the SMS's superior graphics capabilities. The music is the same, but in all honesty, it sucks. Not because of the quality of the music, but the SMS's sound is generally pretty thin and weak sounding compared to the NES's.
BUT! The biggest change is that the wonky hit detection and controls have been fixed! Yes! I really liked the NES game for what it was trying to do, but it didn't play well. This version fixes just all of the game play issues, and feels closer to the way that the excellent 16-bit games felt in the handling. This is the game I always wanted the Nintendo version to be, and it's excellent fun. Highly recommended!

Now this is the game that the original NES version should have been all along! It fixes just about all of the disappointing shortcomings of that game, making it well worth a play.

No chance you've done the Addams family Value? Been trying to find a longer lp of it that explores more of the world and side things you can do. No one shown off the stone marbles or the wishing well.

The game uses music from the unrelated 1991 gameboy game. The ballroom theme is the beehive music, and some of the room with unique music were also taken from the gameboy game.

One thing I really don't like about this version & the NES version is that they cut out Fester's cutscene explaning that he has his memory back thanks to your boss fight with him.
These versions make it seem like he was an imposter this whole time & that you just kill him.

One of the only official Sega Master System games that also had official NES, SNES, and Genesis versions too, and by extension: Game Boy and Game Gear too.
I wish that "RetroN 5's Master System & Game Gear Adapter" belonged to the "Famicom Cartridge Slot" instead of the "Sega Genesis Slot".
Otherwise, this is one game (for multiple platforms) that I could most certainly see make a cameo in a live-action movie/film and/or TV-episode where Christina Ricci appears in.

The music is out of tune, and there's no punctuation marks (comma or period) in what people say at all.
