This video is coming at just the right time! I just found one of my grandfather’s old business ledgers from the late 1800’s -1903 that my grandmother had turned into a sort of scrapbook. There are a bunch of unused pages in the back that I was thinking about adding into my art journal!

Love the idea of using vintage paper! How do you get over the hump of actually using these old, beautiful papers? I have a huge collection of vintage papers from the civil war. I scan them and use them in my digital art and print them on to different papers for my journals. I need to be brave enough to use the originals...otherwise, they will just sit in a box!

Thank you so much Jane! I've been reading so many videos where people have been recommending applying clear gesso and or transparent watercolor grounds to prepare any kind of non-watercolor paper before watercolors to it. I tried that method and its just awful. It makes all your colors look very granular because of the fine grit inside the gesso & grounds. Someone had said you could use very find sandpaper to remove the gritty surface, for example, if you wanted to use brush tip watercolor markers on the surface, but seriously, after seeing your video and getting those ugly results I got, I totally think you've got the right idea, just test the paper and see what it can handle rather than try to manipulate the paper to try and make it work with whatever! Your timing on the release of this video was just perfect, thank you so much! Btw, your mermaid markers are fantastic, they work on beautifully and I love them so much I bought a second set. My favorite Inkcredible Ink is Tinsel too!!! Can you do a tutorial on You Tube for your water color girls?

I hope that 1863 document was scanned first (if it's the original). As a genealogist, the idea of doing artwork over original old documents freaks me out a bit, lol. However, as an artist, I love how these turned out. Personally, I'd rather do this on replicas and not originals, but that's just me, lol.

I got this particular paper I n a flea market, and yes it’s old, but it was from one of many other ledgers. Definitely not precious or of historical value... but now the paper is in the light and a joy to create on! ❤️

I was going to ask but then you mentioned it, right before the end of the video. I was wondering if watercolor ground would work. I know that there are some clear water color grounds that would make using vintage paper perfect for I would think. Thanks for this. I just love this. I have TONS of vintage paper. Some are family papers that I cannot alter.... BUT, I have found some that was discarded to a 2nd/3rd hand shops. Love this. Beautiful your drawings always are. BTW, I really wish you would come to Colorado... preferably central Colorado!! lol Thanks again

I have a question, now I have fallen in love with your work and ideas and products...have bought many of the supplies as well as 3 of your books. My question is: when you draw and paint in existing books, do you take pages out and add more ..or do you just treat the pages and work on top of those?

Love the video, and all your line of products, they are fresh, clean and wonderful colors! I have one question...
I know the white pen is a Sharpie, I have been looking to see if I could get one like it but I can only seem to find, white fine point oil paint sharpies at 3 for 6.99$ or 6 for 14.99$? and 3 white poster paint sharpies for 42.00 which I can't afford. Is there a sharpie that Jane is using that I can't seem to find?

I’m lucky that I have collaborated with my favorite watercolor brands, but Daniel Smith, Shcmincke and Peerless were just not enough- I needed my own watercolors too! You just can’t have enough watercolors! ❤️❤️❤️

Deborah - I think Jane may have not seen that you said fine 'white' pen ... the black fine one is her Epic pen (which is fantastic!) but the white fine one she uses is a sharpie white paint pen.
