Hey mate I use the same system but in an open 44. If you unscrew that black hose tail and screw in a male to female 90 degree elbow it will create a Venturi. This will mix it quicker. 👌
I have been using a drill with a paint mixer this year to make 2:1. I am thinking about getting a water butt and a pump next year to mix up sugar syrup.
You mention the pump getting warm but I would still suggest considering making a homemade solar water heater to heat the water prior to mixing in the sugar. I doesn't have to be very elaborate system and even on a cold day you can get some fairly warm water if the sun is out, which will help in melting the sugar and make less hard work for your pump, likely putting an end to the undissolved sugar in the bottom of the tank.
It looks very compIicated. I watched a Ukrainian beekeeper and he said he puts cold water, sugar and 1 litre of honey to dairy churn and leave it for a day or two and then syrup is ready. Honey works as a preservative for syrup as well. Though in Ukraine they get more honey than beekeepers in the UK.
This system does it in a few hours though. Not sure on the honey….honey ferments when the moisture content is high. + depending on the source could be a disease risk.
@@gwenyngruffydd I was thinking other day If honey ferments than your supers after extraction which you give to bees in spring would be fermented or not?
@@dogblackprincehoney If your supers were fully capped before extraction the honey would generally have been less than 20% water content, so if storing them with residual honey there is little left to ferment and with such a low moisture content there is virtually no risk.
It depends how they’re stored. We wrap our pallets and now store them all indoors. They can ferment on the frames like that. You can small the vinegar smell on them once they have.
Rinky dinky setup by your standards, eh Gwenyn? Bite the bullet and get the honda trash pump, I use the 2-inch pump that is 10 years old, with no cracks yet. I just mixed 9000 liters of 2:1 the other day by myself in 10 hours. I have an old diesel boiler out of a house that I bought 2nd hand. It will heat cold water from the garden hose to 60⁰c continuously. The pump can be moved from one IBC tote to the next. Are you good with math. Volume of 2:1 syrup increases by 1.1. And for 1:1, volume increases by 1.6. So if you want 1000 liters of 2:1 syrup, divide that by 1.1, which is 909kgs of sugar and half of that for the amount of water, 454 liters. 1000 liters of 1:1 , divide by 1.6 is 625kgs sugar, and 625 liters of water.
One job I hate, so I spent loads of time trying to get it done as efficiently as possible. I bought an old 200lt open top SS tank and got old parts from a milk Bulk tank (Agitator and paddle) Let it run over night and Jod done.
Put a tee at the garden hose at the bottom. Then put a clear hose up to the top. It either has to be open or a 90 degree and tap back into the tank. The liquid in the hose will show the level in the tank.
You can get a Honda pump for less than half what you showed in the video. We use them on the farm for pumping fertiliser so they get replaced often as that stuff is so corrosive.
Yes but that’s a Honda water pump not trash pump. This pump is an electric sewer pump so a better grade than a normal spec water pump. I thought it was only fair to compare like for like. You can get chemical pumps maybe that would be better for fertiliser?
@@gwenyngruffydd water pump will mix sugar and water to make syrup no problem. We used to have a towed bowser with an ibc, Honda pump and hose reel to feed the bees worked a treat. Not got enough hives anymore to justify it so we sold it
When you have the welder close the crack, have him magnaflux the casting before he does the weld to find ALL of the cracks. Might be none but another crack is a second pass and more money.

Farmers at work! Loving it!
Also! Great hot tub! 😂 (Gotta stand okay but hey ... Oi imagine turning those pumps on then 😂😂)
Thanks
You’d need to watch your toes don’t end up in the pump!! 😂

Some heat would definitely help
Can’t believe they put the numbers on the outside like that 😂

They do that here in The Netherlands also...but meh....dunno

That crack is either a factory defect or it's been dropped during packaging/shipping. There's no way that can happen due to use . . .
I think that too
Another option to a pump I’ve seen is to use an air compressor to mix up your syrup -> ua-cam.com/video/lB2F0yG563U/v-deo.htmlsi=Ct3oRUtHF-WQrBe-
i use plaster paddle mixer and dirty water pump, and pump my finished syrup into containers its very fast

I’d really like a 500l version of that.

Good tip 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Use a clear hose up the side of the water tank to show the volume.
👍🏻👍🏻
How many kg of sugar and litres of water would be in a gallon of 2:1?
Good question…I’ve never actually measured it like that.
@gwenyngruffydd I wouldn't normally measure either but need to make a gallon and add 10ml of thymol solution lol
Start with 3kg and 1.5 water and see if that makes 5l

Wouldn’t a heated tank be better. The sugar crystals would dissolve quicker and combined with a pump surely you would halve your mixing time.
Yes, but a heated tank is big money unless you can find an old milk tank cheap.
