Now THAT'S how to mass produce!
Glad I only have the one colony for now. Just mixed up 4 gal of 2:1. I have one feral colony out behind me so I'm rolling the dice with open feeding with an up turned 5 Gal bucket with small holes near the rim. They already drained a half bucket so they figured it out right away.
And thanks for showing us your "senior moment". It keeps it real for all of us, we kinda figured you weren't perfect. ;)

In regards to the comment about overloading the pump, I don't believe that you can do that.
Sump pumps are generally centrifugal pumps, and if you dead head a centrifugal pump, it reduces the load.
If you close the valve, does the pump speed up?
That's because now instead of having to pump liquid, it's just spinning the liquid in the pump in circles like a blender.
It's the same reason why a shop vac speeds up when you put your hand over the hose, it's reducing the load on the motor.
You don't want to leave it like that for long because it will heat up the water, and fans and vacuums often rely on the air flow to cool the motors, but as long as you keep a low flow to keep the pump cool you should be fine.
Not that there is a problem leaving the circulation going, but unless it's some sort of positive displacement pump, you can't overload it.
Never dead head a honey pump though... Lol

Funny you should say that...the following morning I still had the drum full and ran the pump and it cut out. Must have over heated as the sugar was cool and much thicker. Fortunately it worked again after half an hour. Maybe over heated or perhaps I knocked the float switch....I will need to watch it.

2:1 is 2 lbs of sugar : 1 lb water, correct? An gallon of water is just over 8 lbs. 3 gal. Would be right at 25 lbs.
2 bags of sugar for ever 3 gallons would be 2:1 or is my math backward?

@@BeekeepingwithTheBeeWhisperer a few years ago I was working on doing technology upgrades at schools, with most of the work happening during the summer, and I finally figured out how to remember which was which....
Labor Day is when all the teachers are going back to work! (and trying to kick us out of their class rooms lol)
