  • I've had some protective film professionally applied to my 899 Panigale to protect it from scuffs and chips - here's how Tony from Tony James Design goes about applying paint protection film....

    Tony the legend is the only one I've found that offers any kit at all for my Triumph 1200 SMQ Scrambler which is insane as it's a clear coated pretty ADV bike with a tank that will be imediately covered in scratches if you grip the bike properly. I've been babying the bike for over 12 months now as no local PPF applicators over in Aus could be bothered with it. Stoked to have finally found a quality kit that'll I'll apply myself. TONY - make a LHS/RHS side cover and front fender kit for it so I can buy it as well mate.

  • @rickp9946
    @rickp9946 6 років тому +1

    I wanted to get Tony to come to me but he was too busy - so I opted to buy the kit and try it myself. Big mistake - don't do it - just book him early and get him to come and do it if you can. Whilst what he is doing looks fairly easy and the promotional videos for the 3M Ventureshield look simple enough it isn't easy at all. And you don't get any practice bits - you are straight in! Tony himself is a nice guy to deal with - wish he could have done it.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 років тому

      Yeah, he sure makes it look easy but he's been at it for a long time.....I can see why he's in such great demand!

    My Porsche is covered in 3M clear film. I recently hit an unavoidable chrome bumper that had fallen off the car in front of me. It left deep scratches and I feared thousands in a respray job. But removing the film revealed a perfect finish beneath it. I got a section replaced cheaply and it now you'd never know. I intend to have all my future cars and bikes wrapped if possible. Money well spent TMF!

  • @Ff6022
    @Ff6022 8 років тому

    Awesome. Be interested to see how it holds up. After 5/6yrs I've had to take it off my Daytona as in some places the edges starts to collect dirt and it shows where the protection is and can't clean it as it gets underneath. Mine was visishield and professionally applied. Believe me wen I say I'm more OCD with cleaning than you are lol. But it has protected the important stuff.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  8 років тому

      +Ff6022 ...interesting feedback Ff6022, the edges are noticeable when you run your finger over (for example) the tank, so it will be interesting to see if this film goes the same way...the beauty of it is of course the paintwork underneath should still be OK and it's cheap enough to get redone every 3-5 years (if you tend to keep your bikes that long). Thanks for watching and for stopping by to comment. All the best - TMF

    Sadly Tony is too busy to apply these kits himself these days, so if you do buy one you are left with trying to find someone to fit it. They are sold with everything you need to fit it yourself, but you will definitely make a complete mess of it unless you have a good amount of experience fitting decals to bikes, for example. I bought a full kit for the 2021 Hayabusa but still looking for someone reasonably local to put them on the bike.

      I don't know - I imagine not as it's transparent but I guess it could be UV resistant.....

    Do you reckon you could have stompgrips installed on top of the film?

    Odd how Ducati don't put a top coat on, will now have to look that up and find out why lol

      +GTs Garage Yes it's completely nuts, I can only assume it's a cost saving measure....but makes no sense for the owner. Only applies to the red bike by the way, not the white...

    • @nigelpstreet

      +TheMissendenFlyer The white 899 is matt, so wouldn't have a top coat, but the red bike should, even the lesser Monsters have a top coat. It's this reason alone I didn't buy an 899, just one too many compromises on what is still an expensive bike. I checked at the bike show, and the 959 doesn't have a top coat either. You've come up with a good solution there. I used that film on my previous bikes, and applied it myself, but the kit alone was getting on for £100, so £200 fitted seems excellent value.

    So....what's the name of the product. Bit of fairly important info I must say.

      +ckryegrass11 As I mentioned it's a TJD Paint Protection kit - it's something Tony makes up especially for your bike, it's not something you can just go out and buy...excellent product though and Tony does a top job of applying.....all the best - TMF

    Ducati should bexashamed of making such an expensive motorcycle and not bothering to properly protect the paint.
