Born & bred in Walthamstow, wonderful to see the old place as I knew it from 1950’s till I left in ‘79. The market was THE place to meet your friends on a Saturday, remember going on the steam trains from Wood St to either St.James St or Hoe Street and walk through the High Street. Wood street Walk was a great gathering with a local band keeping us entertained while waiting for the walkers to finish. Great memories thanks for this film.

My family once had ties to the round table and Young’s butcher shops I’m always fascinated with the history of the borough. Apparently my Great grandparents lived across from the town hall once apon a time thanks for the upload

    1965
The London Borough of Waltham Forest was created in 1965 when the four urban district areas of Chingford, Leyton, Leytonstone, and Walthamstow merged into one. The name of Waltham Forest derives from an institution that managed deer in south west Essex.

Great to see the walking race finish just past the Cock Tavern in Buxton Road outside the cinema

Such a pity the sound is so poor, but not surprising considering the age. The pictures are so good that it might be worthwhile re-recording the script, but that would be a labour of love and perhaps not possible due to copyright issues. I don't know.
I enjoyed seeing Ted Redhead at a couple of events. He was a friend of my father and such a lovely man, sometimes giving me tickets to the Stranger's Gallery in the Commons and even inviting me for tea there, even though I was too young to vote for him. That tells you a lot about the man.
