The love triangle in rebooted was a necessary mess.
It was dumb, but lead to three things:
1. It allowed Jay and Cole to become real friends unlike they were before.
A friendship that lasted
2. After leaving Jay (and Cole) Nya was alowed to have an own arc in Posession
3. It ended Jays ans Nyas cartoony relationship based on cheek kisses and blushes and alowed it to get real and fleshed out in Skybound.
I agree with this a lot, but it could’ve just been a necessary ark instead of a mess. The things you point out are so true but it was not really enjoyable to watch and the thing that started the love triangle is just dumb. Could’ve been executed better, but it was, like you said, kinda necessary

Hot take: Both The Island and Seabound might be all one complete season, like with the fire and ice seasons in Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu. The Island might be focused on the Ninja figuring out the secrets about Wojira, the sea serpent, While Seabound is about Nya losing control about her powers, and figuring out that her powers went haywire, because of the Energy pulse, which might possibly be caused by Wojira, seeing as how both the powers of Water and Wind might be from her.

Modern ninjago just gets too much hate. Just because it wasn't something u loved in the past wasn't there, doesn't mean u should hate it. Sometimes the fandom and the community really sucks.
The thing about that is, this show is so beloved that the fans can’t believe the writer are going in this direction. They only hate it because the writers can do better
They sure can do better, but if they keep master of the mountain levels of quality i think we will be okay

It’s not as nostalgic man still some great new episodes i like s15 but I prefer 1-7 the most rise of the snakes is easily my favorite season and every season 1-7 besides hands of Time and day of the departed were way better than what we get now

@@arrow2593 the main writer for the show, Bragi Schut, has been writing since Sons of Garmadon, and has been the main writer since March of the Oni, so no real change...

hot take: lets be honest people, if this show was meant for older kids it would be SO much more popular. it has so much wasted potential because of the restrictions it has because it is a kids show. there would be more intense fighting (they aren't allowed to actually stab someone... that has never been seen), the love stories would be SO MUCH BETTER because they would have more stuff to work with, the humor could be WAY better, and they could talk more about how basically all the ninja have some trauma
Yeah, I remember in season 1, it had some dark stuff and that made it good, I also see that they're using different animation styles like this is an anime when most anime is really dark.

Skylor has so much potential as a character, her back story and relationship with Chen and the ninja. She could have been written to have a much bigger internal conflict before going with the ninja. With that said, she has very little character development and they completely wasted her in season 9, merely using her for the plot and gave her less than a minute of screentime with Kai. I do hope she will be a more 3-dimensional character if she does comeback in the future
Extremely unpopular opinion:
I actually didn't hate the love triangle in season 3. It had some funny dialogue and gave Nya and Jay a challenge in their relationship, rather than having everything be perfect all the time. I think it ended up making their relationship stronger in the end. It isn't perfectly executed by any means, but I still kind of liked it.

I really liked it, it made a fun conflict in the show. People are a bit tired of love triangles from as a trope in media, but the one in Season 3 has the benefit of being pretty fun to watch, be it when Cole and Jay are in the trash compactor or the whole 'Jole' moment. And I like how it makes a rift in their friendship that they have to resolve in Season 4.
They should have made a movie showing what they did in between season 7 and 8(edited YES YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY DO ANOTHER HOT TAKE🔥🔥 and maybe make it a series 🤞)

Hot take: Season 3 was actually really good not counting some of the Love triangle plot. The Ninja retiring into teachers was an interesting Concept that could be explored a Little bit more or acknowleged in any of the next seasons, but I think that The rest was really good and of course the ending that made Zane my favourite Ninja to this day remains golden. They should make another Zane/Pixal season beacause she didn't receive that much screentime but maybe it'll change in the still ongoing season 15. And season 11 doesn't count as a Zane season in my opinion.
Yeah I totally agree, I really like season three (except for the love triangle of course). The overlord and the nindroids were really cool villains, I loved garmadon being good for the first time, and the techno setting was very cool and unique compared to the previous two seasons.
I really liked how the nindroids showed that even though the nindroids had much more upgrades than Zane they actually had one flaw that lead to their downfall. Zane had a heart (robot heart if you want)
On the contrary, I personally strongly dislike season 3. The plot is extremely messy and convenient with the story having multiple endings and random introductions in order to move the plot along. This may have been attributed to the Hagemans’ weird constrictions that they had on the story, but it really shows. The final episode of the season, “The Titanium Ninja”, is extremely overrated just because of the final sacrifice and funeral scene. While I do think this scene is powerful, it in no way can carry the entire season. Moreover, the rest of this episode is complete trash in my opinion. Multiple random things are introduced just to move the plot forward(temple of fortitude, elemental shields, shrinking pill, stone armor) and weren’t even alluded to in previous episodes. It is just overall horrible writing that shows. I don’t blame the Hagemans though because of massive constraints that they had.
Rebooted is a top 3 season man it includes one of the best episodes in the series the new seasons are good but they don’t hold up with the old ones
Talking about the animation studios,I will love to see a season with the textures, illumination and backgrounds from Wil-Film,but with the movements from Wild-Brain ,I think that would be fantastic,however I know that will probably never happen.
What about the upcoming legacy short with Wu and the Time Twins? Isn't that Wildbrain copying WilFilm's style? Maybe we could see another evolution of the animation at one point. Like how season 7 and 8 had a jump in quality, perhaps Wildbrain could do the same?
@@reginaldgreen2743 As far as I know that short was animated by a different studio,I think it was CC productions,I'm not sure,however when I first saw the trailer I thought it was animated by wild brain.

I think the last one doesn’t really make sense because if you look at SoG, hunted and March of the Oni (aka the Oni trilogy [aka the best ninjago seasons]), they were animated so well, it felt so realistic in some ways, the amount of deaths we had in the season was really high for a kids show, the story was awesome and I think it was Willfilm just going out with a bang. I definitely see the Oni trilogy as ninjago’s peak and I hope it will get even better with seabound and the next/ final seasons of ninjago.

Hot take: season 10 isn’t as bad as everyone says. It’s pretty good just the reason people hate it is because it’s 4 episodes long and a missed opportunity. They had so much stories of the oni but it only took them 4 episodes to defeat them. I think if they didn’t make the oni sound like a huge villain people would like March of the oni a little more. One time I rewatched March of the oni without reaching season 8 and 9 and I liked March of the oni a lot. Then when I did rewatch 8 and 9 I started realizing why people hate it so much. It was just a missed opportunity. If you rewatch it without rewatching season 8 and 9 I think you might like it. Although cole’s fall was kinda disappointing. I wish he didn’t just land with nothing broken. He lander on the floor from a huge building, how is he alive?If they didn’t make the oni sou nd like a huge villain which would take a lot of time to defeat and if they gave Cole a broken leg or arm or maybe even he dies but the ninja get him back from the departed realm ( which wouldn’t make so much sense since the realm crystal was destroyed before cole’s fall.) and he would have to be a ghost again and while they are in the departed realm they could face some old villains trying to escape like Chen or samukai. In my opinion season 10 is not that bad.

This is kinda a weird take but I wish the final season of Ninjago was a "casual" one, the Ninja team all have individual arcs around the city cause I feel like Ninjago city kinda lost its personality... I want this season to feel like its was actually worth saving-

I think they implied that passing down elemental powers can go one of two ways: Having a child, or willingly passing it down to a specific individual. I've seen someone else talk about it, and it made sense why Morro still had his elemental powers, since he died and didn't pass it down. They said that the Master of Ice visited him, so he probably passed it down, while Jay's Mom was the Master of Lightning.
A lot of this can just be speculation, ig, but I do agree that it would be cool to have an arc with Zane and Jay learning a bit more about their pasts other than just "I'm adopted!" and "I'm a robot"

For one, WildBrain Jay is the most relatable character. And the reason is that he isn't relatable in the way that most 'relatable characters' are, rather, he's relatable in a way that I, and other people with ADHD, can understand. Most shows are just full of neurotypicals and when a character *isn't* NT for once, it's always played up for comedy or highly stereotypical. Jay's not like that. He shows multiple genuine signs of ADHD, even things that are often looked over, like rejection sensitivity, hyperfixations, and even occasional sensory processing issues (which, as someone with that specific struggle, I definitely appreciate.) I never really realised that the way he shows these signs are often interpreted as poorly executed comedy until recently and like- bruh, the fact that people don't understand that he speaks the the ND is just proof in and of itself that we need more neurodivergent representation.
Don’t like modern jay as much man my favorite character is Kai and the writers seem to have no focus on him rn and it’s honestly ruining his character

Hot take: the ninja team is way to big as it is. There are too many people on the team and what ends up happening is in each season most of them have little to nothing to do other than the focus ninja. A recent example of this is how Kai and Cole and Master Wu were all left at home in season 15. I feel the ninja team was better when I was just a couple characters like in the first season because then each of them had time to shine within the same season.
Ah yes. The fans. I’m sorry but people shouldn’t say things they don’t really know what they’re talking about. Tanner, I love how you give facts, you support your reasons with evidence and with an explanation. I don’t like it when people say stuff like: Kai and Lloyd don’t get enough screen time. Dude, the Ninja are a team! In some seasons, it’ll focus a little more on then because we are learning more about THIS specific character. Lloyd has tons of screen time. With Kai, it’s the same. I’d say everyone has an equal amount of time. PIXAL could honestly use more time but, she’s getting it. Before anyone says: But Lloyd has the most, it’s always him! Ok listen. The show does focus on the team but, Lloyd is put in more situations because he’s the monkey in the middle with Ninjago’s history and family. It wouldn’t make sense for it to NOT focus a little more on him. It’s like a forced attention to Lloyd. We learn more about his character because he’s apart of the story, villains, etc. Anyways, great video as always Tanner!

Towards the 'Writer's don't care' take - I can almost see this being a problem in the future, however not where we are now. Ninjago is by its very nature as a Lego franchise very flexible in what settings and plot lines it can explore. Most of the characters are unique in their own regard, but still fall into common tropes: Jay as the comedic relief, Kai as the lancer, Lloyd as the leader, etc. And this is a really great thing, because if you're able to set up the general team dynamic quickly, you're able to take them into increasingly bizarre and unique story threads without everything getting too hectic.
By virtue of this, I think Ninjago has a lot of potential in terms of where the story can go. It can mess around with all manner of stories and themes without losing energy or getting bogged down by its own lore (another reason why Cole shouldn't have remained a ghost imo).
What I can see happening, though, is that at some point, the writer's are going to get burnt out. It's just what happens if you've been writing for the same universe for over a decade. You can bring in new writers and new characters as much as you'd like - at some point, the characters and world are going to have reached their natural conclusion.
So what worries me most is that, when this point is reached, the show will keep being made long after the passion and energy behind it has died. The downside to the Lego aspect is that, of course, as long as the toys will sell, the show will keep going, like some kind of weird half-alive shadow of what it once was.
Have we reached that point yet? No, I don't believe so. If anything, I think we're pretty far off from that point - to me, at least, the new generation of seasons has gotten better with every release. It really feels like the writers have found a flow after the absence of the Hageman's. I'm optimistic in this regard. I hope, though, that when the series concludes, it does so the right way.
So, while I don't agree with that comment completely, I see where they're coming from.

Naw but for real, most of these takes seem fine. They are well explained and nuanced and even if I don't agree I can clearly see where the hot take is coming from.
The Wildbrain animation is better than WilFilm animation from pilots to season 7 but will never surpass the animation from the oni trilogy.

Hot take: wu has really been a good character up until season 10. He was really developed and was cool to see him grow through season 9 but after season 10 he had his beef with asphera but hasn’t been mentioned in the stories too much
Wildbrain is MUCH better & a WAY better improvement. Like think of the fights from seasons 1-7 those fights were very short lived & looked like they were fighting with sticks instead of whatever weapons the ninja had. Dont believe me? Go back & watch Kai & nya vs acronix & krux. Wildbrain's animation is so fluid & full of life. They actually move & fight like ACTUAL ppl. Before they fought & moved like animated Legos. Which is what they are, like no shit, but now it doesnt feel like I'm watching LEGO ninjago. Just regular ol ninjago.

Hot take: Kai is the most disrespected ninja. His personality was completely ruined after season 7, he basically took Jays role as the comic relief (Jay instead becoming a child) and he hasnt had a single arc since season 11 and he also never really got a focus season, season 4 in the last 3 episodes focusing on Lloyd and Garmadon, season 7 was shared with Nya and season 11 with Zane. He is also the only ninja to NEVER defeat a main Villian. Zane defeated the Overlord Lloyd defeated The overlord twice as well as the Ice emperor and Garmadon, Cole defeated the Skull sorcerer and Master Yang, Jay defeated Nadakhan and Ungami, and Nya defeated Wojira and the Preeminent. With Dragons rising ending the era of focus seasons it probably means Kai will never defeat a villian which is so sad.
Live action Ninjago wouldn't be child friendly at all. I mean, a martial arts movie that is about realistic looking serpentines with arms wanting to take over the world and bury all the people on the surface or even killing them doesn't sound child friendly to me. And I love that. Sorry, love action movies :)
HOT TAKE: since ninjago is an older show and kids have come and go, i feel as if there should be a tribute movie or episode, where they go back and reflect on the older episodes, for the kids who were there since the beginning who are now older, or a movie or a live action to express teen ninjas becoming responsible and mature semi adults, maybe a live action of the pilot

3:29 I disagree in some extent.Season 15 I mean is a good example about what I mean.Cole's dirt bike is around after retiring but this helps bricklink sellers so they can up the price .Overall I think writers care but set designers do not
Hot take: ninjago should’ve ended at the end of season 10
The sets I think are way too expensive because in NZ the Spinjitzu/battle sets are like $17 and the big sets are like $145-$190
I would say wilfilm has good animation but also sometimes there isn’t much movement, while wildbrain has much more fluent movement and even if it’s not the BEST animation I would say the fight scenes are great!

Honestly, WildBrains fight animation is amazing and my favorite parts of the new seasons.
Kai, Jay, and Zane need more focus
*KAI* and *JAY* ?? I totally agree with Zane, but *them* ?? Please explain why they need more focus, when Zane and Cole are the Ninja with the least screen time.
@@AkizatheNacho yeah but still with the recent seasons, Jay and Kai need better development. Zane still gets good development here and there. Cole has been getting an overload of it recently, same with Nya. Lloyd doesn’t really need as of this moment since he got the entire Oni and Dragon trilogy. Jay and Kai are the ones in the most need of a season, a good season.
I think the perfect story for a ninjago movies 2 would be tournament of elements because each ninja had a big role and their own arc and they could give more development to that version of Kai and you can still have the secondary Lloyd and garmadon focus from the first movie

Same with me, my first set was the warrior bike and ever since then I've been hooked on collecting Jay's (and I love the character he's a lot like me)
Honestly Kai was my favourite because I felt like I related to him the most (before season 8) since I always felt like he struggled with controlling his emotions which just felt so human to me
Ice Chapter animation quality looks the exact same as them crappy Alpha and Omega movie sequels
seeing all of these screenshots from the older seasons makes me realize I've forgotten how primitive the animation used to be.
also I 100% agree with the "Ninjago peaked at seasons 8-10" thing. Those seasons had a darker tone and more cinematic atmosphere that no other era of the show has.
while march of the oni may have felt a bit rushed I think it did a great job of bringing the series full circle.

im not 100% sure this is a hot take but: i feel like if jay was a real life person he would be the most attractive from the team, in season 13 we saw that the queen of the munce chose jay to he her husband and we also saw in season 14 that the islanders choose jay as “the gift” and he is also the only one who has a girlfriend apart from zane (i know its weird lol)

Hot take: zane did not get a focused on since season 4 it is like the writers don't know what to do with him and that is why they turned him in the ice emperor but did not use that to advance his character and excluded him from prime empire it is almost like they forgot how to write the guy, maybe a zane and pixal duo season would be a good way to fix that?

I think Misako should’ve stayed gone and not come back to Lloyd. Now I know that probably seems pretty bad and immoral because Lloyd does need a mother, but let’s be honest, how many times has Misako actually interacted with Lloyd? I could probably count on my hands their good interactions and bonding moments. I think Misako was put in as a random and maybe new element to Ninjago, but the way she was revealed as Lloyd’s mother was incredibly underwhelming and I think it would’ve been better if they built up the anticipation to want to see her before revealing her. Another thing that bugs me about Misako is just… well…. kind of her in general? Like don’t get me wrong I don’t HATE her character, but I definitely have her at the bottom of my list of likable characters. If you think about it, the whole situation with The Island and the events afterward were literally because the ninja had to go after Misako after she made the dumb decision to explore an island. I mean yeah I guess it’s her choice to explore new things, but she should know, with how much Ninjago gets attacked and how many bad things and people lurk around in their world, that an island sitting in the middle of a fricking storm would hold something bad. And people usually don’t survive trying to get to the island; imagine if she died trying to get to the island without even saying a word to Lloyd or him even knowing where she went? Idk seems like she really doesn’t care that much abt Lloyd at all. Also I gotta say… she got wooed over some words on a paper? Like I get she does have to have standards but goddamn woman that bar is through the floor.

I think for season 11 writers could make a story about Zane having PTSD after fighting with oni, fear to lose his family grows to hunger for power and his conflict with Kai on this point.

We need snakes' backstory explanation. We know so little about them and they appear in lots of seasons only to leave more questions about their species. For example in season 1 we had the 5 tribes and then over the seasons more tribes have appeared with no origin explained. The only info we have on them is that they lived in Ninjago before FS arrived and some from the first season (which I do not remember)

I think the writers DO care, BUT, I don't think the writers THINK about what Ninjago is right now.
All the seasons now are pretty much the same, PIXAL doesn't have anymore character development, and the Ninja are VERY dumbed down.
But the Ninja focus is getting better, and Ninjago is still alive. It hasn't stopped yet.
@Dylan Sharp He isn't wrong. Look at pre s-11. The focus was more spread even when there was a focus ninja, all the ninja had their own personality. Every story was different and the show got darker as it went on. Now if you look at modern ninjago, Lloyd has too much focus. The ninja have changed so muched. Nya is way more of a hot head and kai is WAY too chill compared to what he's supposed to be. Cole is now the gamer which was always jay. And jay used to work on the bounty and help repairing/inventing stuff. Kai and zane are legit side characters and the show is trying to make ninjago a funny show which isn't the direction they should go. A similar pattern happens every season. The ninja go out explore get into a problem and that all. The danger used to come to them but now they go after it. The seasons don't even connect (s14-s15 are the only ones that connect). You can watch any of them without watching the one previous to it and you won't be missing anything. The changes from s10-s11 made ninjago worse and I wish that they at least bring back the 22 min format since the 11min format is mainly for shows that don't have a storyline (Ninjagos kinda has become this) Just my opinion

You also can't tell me nya's temper completely changed from s10-s11. She gets so angry so much now besides having a few times she got angry before s11. Hot take : the reason all the characters design changed is the ninjago used all their elemental powers on the reversal time blade which destroyed it be sent a wave of reversal energy which rest the ninjas powers that is why they forget so many things like the airjitzu, elemental shields and the elemental dragons and that is also way wu is ageing back to this old self because the blade is destroyed

2.I have never liked the blade piece they used because it bends too easily

Hot take: Garmadons sacrifice was pointless since Zane could have used the flute in his memory against Chen's army and would have prevented seasons 5, 6, 8, and 9. But the downside would be that Jay and Nya might not get back together since seasons 5 and 6 wouldn't happen.
