@@oMuStiiA right so youre not using a move when the opponent does, but in the lucario fight you have to use a move. I'm not sure what your point exactly is, you dont use moves when the opponent picks one but you do even when its not your pokemon. Its a cool video and itd be fun to see others like it but no because of a stupid required battle you cant beat it without using moves
30:03 "So after doing a bunch of Intimidate switches, I was okay with tanking 4x super effective attacks on Clinton to take it out with contact damage early and save some time." This is a wild statement how that's a time save in a run like this lmao
I barely have the patience to watch this, but that may just be because I’m tired (disclaimer: this is one of my favorite videos I’ve watched in a while)
Tierno SHOULD be one of the hardest rivals in pokemon, which would be cool considering you don’t fight him much so it’s like a mini boss battle, but no. He just dances and is ass at battling
Editing and Voiceover felt like I was watching a huge 1m+ viewed hidden gem video, seems I actually made it to one of these videos BEFORE the blow up. This one is gonna be big, I can feel it! insta sub and like
Dang, great video! For Sky Drop (although it depends how you define “using a move”) you will NOT use a move if you’re in the air and faster than the Pokémon that used Sky Drop. So, with your high levels, you just needed to find a Pokémon that outsped Aero and you were golden! Of course… you’d still be clicking a move though and the solution you ended up going with is definitely a cleaner one overall :)
@ true, I’m aware of Aero’s speed stat, but they already showed that they were grinding to be extremely overleveled. You don’t need something with a faster base speed stat - just faster than that 1 aerodactyl :)
This is genuinely so impressive!!! The playing style, the editing!!! All of this is so well done. Best of luck to you, hope to see you live on Twitch soon!
This video just shows how handicapped physical attackers are compared to special attackers. They are affected by intimidate, all contact debuffs, burns and recoil damage. Yet special attackers don't have any downsides or counterparts to the debuffs.
I think about this a lot, but somehow the physical type still prevails. I've caught myself a lot of times going "it's so dumb there isn't a special intimidate?" or "why doesn't poison work the same as fire for special?" but i've started to realize they at least somewhat bake the balance into the moves and pokemon stat distributions. Like you would think that with intimidate, burn, abilities that punish physical attackers like static, and special attack getting all equal counterparts to stat boosting moves, special attackers would just be king. But when I start to think about moves so many special ones are weaker, or barely distributed, or have a big drawback. Not many special earthquake type moves, and maybe that's why? idk really I just think about it more than I should but im happy you brought it up
@@Airid Yea it really does come down to move quality and distribution. If you look at the list of moves for each type and sort by power, most types have a Physical move as the strongest competitive-relevant move available, and at that most of the types where Special wins out there have physical options that are at least viable. I think Psychic is the only type where special attacks truly run away with it, and there's multiple phyiscal-heavy types that run away just as much as it does for special. So absent the various weaknesses that physical attackers have, they'd in general be better than special attackers, hence those factors to help balance things out.
I actually didn't think this was possible going in but that was a lot of fun to watch and go through, and the interesting team building and strategies that no one would consider for any other challenge was really cool
So I was sure that I had seen someone else do this same challenge. Turns out I wasn't entire correct. There are two other people who I know of that have beat a Pokemon game without using moves. They did allow for in battle healing though. One, however, in addition to no moves, also didn't allow switching pokemon (or running, but it was in Pokemon Violet, so you can always just avoid running into wild pokemon). King The Luck did Pokemon Scarlet without using any moves, while TeeGee did Pokemon Violet while only being allowed to select bag (and the items in it) in battle (so that's the no switching or running). Still, great video, and the run is different due to the no in battle healing rule as well as just being done in a different gen.
that sounds insane! I didn't come across everybody that's done some variation of this because I was looking for exactly this thing, but i'll definitely have to check those out!
great video! i can't believe you don't have more subscribers yet i was thinking I might try a similar challenge, but maybe just a "no damaging moves" run to help preserve my sanity haha what made you choose X in the end? was it primarily available pokémon, trainers, or something else? i was thinking that SwSh might be a good choice given all the pokémon available in the wild area (ferroseed, hippopotas, snover, etc) but i'd love to know if you ruled that out for any particular reason
I think sword and shield would be a good choice! I started in gen 5 but that was actual hell (and I picked the wrong starter but didn’t come back to bite me until 70 hours in LMAO) so I just kind of worked my way up and gen 6 looked too good to pass up. Catching xp makes this challenge infinitely easier, and it had fletchling on route one so it seemed like the perfect recipe! Early game is usually the hardest for this (once you get daycare it becomes more manageable) and it was the first game I looked at where getting to there seemed not awful!
yeah, gen 5 is my favourite but it's not friendly to challenge runs it seems ;--; gen 6 makes a lot of sense! especially XY given how notoriously easy a lot of the required battles are, especially for a run like this, considering so many of their pokémon have fewer than 4 moves while gen 8 has a lot of good QoL additions like early leftovers and exp candy, the lack of daycare levelling is definitely a slight concern. and if i actually do this challenge i'm not sure how i'd treat raid dens - either clause them or just pray for good NPC luck haha
Raid dens could definitely make it interesting, I feel like that would be the only way forward you would just need the CPUs to be insane LMAO, who knows maybe one day one of us will try it!
I looked into it to see if it was possible to underspeed the other Lucario, mega-evolve, and then get KOed before you get to use your move. Unfortunately the IVs and natures of the two Lucarios are fixed so that you always outspeed. Her Lucario has no way to boost its speed and no priority, and no item I'm aware of can be used to increase the opponent's speed or lower yours. So you can't lose the battle while mega-evolving without at least one of your moves going off. The best you can do is miss Metal Sound.
Hey, that was a great video! I especially liked the start, although after the first gym to me it felt like the game got a bit too easy because of the level advantage, so it didn't feel like much of a challenge anymore despite not using healing items. I personally completed this challenge in Ultra Sun while trying not to overlevel too much, and I also made a video on it a while ago, so you're not the first person to do it ;). Totally fair that you missed a video with 150 though lol. A friend of mine, Barely Alec, also did it in HeartGold (although I think he did overlevel as well), and I recently beat the challenge in Platinum while using level caps as well. This was still a great video and I'm not trying to take away from that, just saying that you're not the first. Anyways, good luck on your future videos!
That’s crazy good on you! I searched and searched across UA-cam they didn’t want to show you love apparently, but yours sounds INSANELY hard might have to check it out!

I guess you can say no one has done it using this exact rule (no battle items), but imo that is a bit misleading.
A little constructive criticism. Could you explain more about the tactics you were using? I had to go back a few times before i realised you were stalling out PP on the first battle. Then i realised the level cap of each mon doesnt matter because you are not battling with them so they can be over levelled. Other than that it was a good video and you must have the patience of a saint. 😅
How did you get enough money to spam antidotes and get a lot of pokeballs early game? I haven't played x/y in a bit but I don't think they give you too much things to sell or trainer cash , did the pokemon you caught in mass give you much money in held items? I know zizagoon have pickup but that only activates after winning a battle so that just more or less slows the loss of money. Perhaps all of it combined was just enough or perhaps there are some nuggets or something that I'm forgetting about but either way I would love to hear how you balanced the spending of money and purchasing of items.
The antidote actually doesn’t get consumed so I only need one! I sold some pick up items for a few extra balls (the game also gives you 10 instead of 5 to start) but the big thing is the shared xp from the start. All of my party just getting to like level 7 is enough to beat youngster Austin. After that I have Kakuna’s to train on in the forest, and burmy after that (both who can’t hurt me so free xp). Not to mention the only other required fight is a pikachu and I picked a grass starter. When you pick chespin for this challenge on x/y A LOT goes your way it’s like it was made for this lol
Technically it isn't actually under 100 hours since there was a ton of speed up while playing the game. It probably would have been closer to a few hundred hours legitimately.
It was like 374 in game hours! (I show it at the very end) but yea the amount of time of my life this would’ve taken up with no speed up would be ABSURD
@@Airid Ngl I paused literally the frame before and decided to sit with my failure. 🤣 But regardless, the hours are absurd. I could never (I say as I've put like 200-300 into each generation working on living dexes. Lmfao)
I mean yea it makes specifically the mid game easier, but it’s that or pp stall on wild pokemon I have no chance of dying to and the concept takes 5 times as long to complete. Doing it with a level cap is an interesting idea I might try in the future, but using daycare vs not with no level cap doesn’t take away any skill expression
I had it hurt me in the run and KO me just didn’t put it in the video! My guess is bc it’s typeless and they never coded wonder guard to protect from typless moves it hurts
It's not your lucario, so it's not you using the move, it's her lucario using the move.
GOOD POINT
Imagine if you technically didn't own your starter during the battle either...
But it’s still a move being used ?
@theccarbiter the opponent pokemon use moves too but that's not the player character's problem, because those aren't their pokemon.
@@oMuStiiA right so youre not using a move when the opponent does, but in the lucario fight you have to use a move. fun fact lucario actually just does that by himself. he goes raaaaugh and mega evolves by himself all the time. doesnt affect the challenge at all

Not to mention the only other required fight is a pikachu and I picked a grass starter. When you pick chespin for this challenge on x/y A LOT goes your way it’s like it was made for this lol
@@Airid Oh I thought it was consumed, that makes a lot more sense. thank you for filling me in!
Lmfao)
Pokey-mon
As soon as you used the daycare you lost me. It’s pretty easy when you have a level 70 pokemon against level 20s
I don't think struggle can hurt shedinja, so IDK why you switched him out from Hawlucha at the end. Please correct me if I'm wrong
I had it hurt me in the run and KO me just didn’t put it in the video! My guess is bc it’s typeless and they never coded wonder guard to protect from typless moves it hurts
So a rule is no healing items, but spamming “status” healing like antidote to stall turns is ok? :(
You know you can Lose the sycamore fight in lumiose right?
Yeaaaa unfortunately I learned that a little late Lmao
cant the lucario battle just be skipped if you say no
You can say no to taking the lucario but not battling her unfortunately she makes you do that shit
@@Airid oh i guess i misremembered i just remembered it being useful on challenge runs with limited team options
Enron hat? Big A viewer?
Big A editor 😎
he edits for him! :)
Isn’t the Sycamore fight optional? Like you don’t have to win? So why were you resetting?
actual?? I think you have to win but if you don't that SUCKS LMAO
oh yeah someone already did that way before you did
