They inspired to the viking metal movement in the latest 80's and so many power metal bands as well. Manowar is a legend hail to the metal kings🤟🏻
Symphonic Metal would have taken ten more years to come up without them, too.
Since 82, their debut's title track was 120% power metal, viking metal and some symphonic metal. They're the real pioneers of at least 3 huge subgenres

Manowar is amazing. They have so many insane songs. So many incredible achievements, 2x in guinnes book of records (longest show 5h1m in Bulgaria and loudest band like), Eric Adams (singer) was singing in Italy "Nessun Dorma" opera live (btw he is professional hunter/teacher with crossbow) etc etc etc...
plus they have the best and I mean THE BEST song that has even been written... Achilles Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts , 28min epic masterpiece!
It's the same like first time hearing Ayreon, Nightwish etc... you don't know (yet) what you have just discovered

Eric Adams of Manowar and Geoff Tate of Queensryche are two titan vocalists. Manowar's music is so epic, powerful and triumphant
Very old school Manowar. I know a lot of people don't like their later stuff because they got a little over the top/self parody but the first few albums can easily go up against any of your favourite metal band's discography and utterly smoke them.
Dark Avenger and Defender. Both narrated by legendary actor Orson Welles. Phenomenal
By the way guitarist on Secret Of Steel Ross The Boss (Friedman) used to be in The Dictators with Mark The Animal Mendonza from Twisted Sister.
The album version of Defender is absolutely not phenomenal.
(But the '83 single is phenomenal in deed)

This is the epitome of Power Metal.
The band is arguably the inventor of Viking Power Metal by themes and sound alone.
These guys have this epic 28 minutes opus called Achilles, Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts you should definitely react to. The whole The Triumph Of Steel album is one of the very best metal albums ever recorded.
I bought this CD just because of the cover and I was not let down. I bought this, morbid angel covenant and sepultura chaos AD. One of the best days ever.

We need more Manowar! This was recorded in 1983 and it was the begining of Sword and Sorcery metal. They sing a lot about Norse mythology as is their main source of inspiration. They have a LOT of great songs,especialy from their 1980 - 1992 era. Eric Adams is top 3 greatest vocals in my humble opinion,he is a beast known for holding 40 second long screams both live and studio. Guiness book of record have them for loudest band and longest metal concert. Greatly underated in the USA but loved in Europe and Asia.

you asked about Mythology, and they do touch on it, but it's not their big thing unless it involved "glory".
They sing about Valhalla, which is Norse. In fact they do a lot of Norse mythology.
As far as greek goes, they do have a song called "Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in eight parts" which is an EPIC song that lasts over 30 minutes, and is in fact eight connected musical parts. It has some of the best drumming you could listen to, but it's quite a journey - might be too much for a review.
Other bands might sing about mythology more, (harpies, cyclops, the Odyssey, etc) but nobody sings more about glory. The glory of battle, the glory of (Norse) gods. Odin, Thor and so forth. (Before Marvel movies made him mainstream.) The glory of victory. The glory of death, the glory of Valhalla. Even the glory of 'Nam. Yeah, they sang it. Also, the glory of HEAVY METAL.

It is correct to say that Manowar was a father to power metal, they are definitely one of the proto-power metal bands that inspired the genre for sure. But Manowar is a Traditional Heavy Metal band at it's core. Glad you guys liked the song, Manowar has a ton of amazing songs, check them out!

Not ManOWars best song but a good into to them. GOTTA check out some of Joey DiMaio's bass solos like "Sting of the Bumble Bee" or "William's Tale"
Into Glory Ride was my first ManOWar album back in '83 (still have it) it has kinda strange production to it. Listen to ANYTHING from their debut album "Battle Hymns"

Epic metal. That is Manowar in most of their songs in their first 4 albums between 1982 and 1984

The first truely great American Heavy Metal band, huge in Europe, but largely unknown in America. Before Metallica and the Fab Four, and they inspired all the Power Metal bands! Manowar were the first Power Metal band, and a lot of Metal people weren’t ready for the progressive epicness of some songs. They can thrash/speed with the best of them, and they are the anthem Kings, enjoy the Rabbithole, this is not in the bands top 20 best songs. Get onto it boys, a whole lotta listening, wink😂!
Manowar is like super old school hair metal but they’re the shit. I think they were kind of trailblazers for later groups like Hammerfall or Rhapsody although obviously Manowar is American. Although maybe you could link Blind Guardian more to Hammerfall, I don't know.

Got to see ManOWar in the late 80's, and it was one of the most surreal scenes I have ever witnessed. Lots of girls in mini skirts and guys in blue jeans and tees, all walking around during the break between the opening band and these guys, with CLASSICAL music playing on the PA. It was all happening in slow motion, very weird. But once ManOWar hit the stage, all the mystery was gone. Theses guys can really tear it up, the Bass player was especially dynamic. Great Heavy/Speed/Norse/Manic Metal!!

The Kings of Metal. The sound of their music wanted you to be warriors, to aspire to coming together, with death to false metal. Eric Adams is one of the greatest metal singers ever. You should listen to Battle Hymns by them, and then imagine you are off to war!
