Since 82, their debut's title track was 120% power metal, viking metal and some symphonic metal. They're the real pioneers of at least 3 huge subgenres
Got to see ManOWar in the late 80's, and it was one of the most surreal scenes I have ever witnessed. Lots of girls in mini skirts and guys in blue jeans and tees, all walking around during the break between the opening band and these guys, with CLASSICAL music playing on the PA. It was all happening in slow motion, very weird. But once ManOWar hit the stage, all the mystery was gone. Theses guys can really tear it up, the Bass player was especially dynamic. Great Heavy/Speed/Norse/Manic Metal!!
you guys seriously need to react to more Manowar. im seeing a lot of comments here recommending some frickin' bangers and you will never regret listening to any of them. i only discovered Manowar literally this christmas but from the songs i've listened to, they're already on my top 10 bands.
Manowar is amazing. They have so many insane songs. So many incredible achievements, 2x in guinnes book of records (longest show 5h1m in Bulgaria and loudest band like), Eric Adams (singer) was singing in Italy "Nessun Dorma" opera live (btw he is professional hunter/teacher with crossbow) etc etc etc... plus they have the best and I mean THE BEST song that has even been written... Achilles Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts , 28min epic masterpiece! It's the same like first time hearing Ayreon, Nightwish etc... you don't know (yet) what you have just discovered
Finally some ManOwaR! So many great songs to pick up from their catalog: Spirit Horse Of The Cherokee, The Power Of Thy Sword, Hail And Kill, Ride The Dragon, Blood Of The Kings, Dark Avenger, Each Dawn I Die, The Sign Of The Hammer, Defender, Kingdom Come, Battle Hymn, Achilles, Agony And Ecstasy…
I see you love the Triumph of Steel :) Don't forget Wheels of Fire, Hail and Kill, and I would actually love to watch them listen to the Warriors Prayer
Very old school Manowar. I know a lot of people don't like their later stuff because they got a little over the top/self parody but the first few albums can easily go up against any of your favourite metal band's discography and utterly smoke them.
welcome to 1980 Metal, the Kings of Metal are foundational to Heavy Metal and its greater defender. Eric Adams is now 70 years old and still killing it.
Dark Avenger and Defender. Both narrated by legendary actor Orson Welles. Phenomenal By the way guitarist on Secret Of Steel Ross The Boss (Friedman) used to be in The Dictators with Mark The Animal Mendonza from Twisted Sister.
These guys have this epic 28 minutes opus called Achilles, Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts you should definitely react to. The whole The Triumph Of Steel album is one of the very best metal albums ever recorded.
I bought this CD just because of the cover and I was not let down. I bought this, morbid angel covenant and sepultura chaos AD. One of the best days ever.
We need more Manowar! This was recorded in 1983 and it was the begining of Sword and Sorcery metal. They sing a lot about Norse mythology as is their main source of inspiration. They have a LOT of great songs, especialy from their 1980 - 1992 era. Eric Adams is top 3 greatest vocals in my humble opinion,he is a beast known for holding 40 second long screams both live and studio. Guiness book of record have them for loudest band and longest metal concert. Greatly underated in the USA but loved in Europe and Asia.
Love some Manowar. Check out some Black Wind, Fire, and Steel, Defender (something very unique), Carry On, and many others. They're like mythic metal, fighting for metal lol.
And also the one song i bet the devs of WoW were listening to when they made the talent trees for Paladin class :scepter (mace) for holy, shield for protection, greatsword 2handed for retribution.
Hell yes lol . Y’all should do battle hymn, sleipnir, fighting the world, or the gods made heavy metal something like that. I think I’ve requested on patreon before but you know
A ‘Man-o-war’ is a type of Portuguese ship. The jelly fish of the same name is called that because the floating part of the animal resembles the sails of the ship
The Kings of Metal. The sound of their music wanted you to be warriors, to aspire to coming together, with death to false metal. Eric Adams is one of the greatest metal singers ever. You should listen to Battle Hymns by them, and then imagine you are off to war!
It is correct to say that Manowar was a father to power metal, they are definitely one of the proto-power metal bands that inspired the genre for sure. But Manowar is a Traditional Heavy Metal band at it's core. Glad you guys liked the song, Manowar has a ton of amazing songs, check them out!
Until you see the ultra mega crowds they play for you wont understand . Watch Warriors of The World live ! THe crowd is an ocean of Metalheads waving flags from every country , ad I swear the crowd goes as far as the eye can see ! If its still on youtube its a must watch
The saying comes from the bronze age of weaponry..The mastery of hardening steel was once thought to be magic !000 years ago..These dudes take that and turn it into METAL!! Death to false metal is there creed and there code!! Please do yourselves justice and listen to 'THE METAL KINGS"..This is a shout out from the old metal head from DETROIT..been with you guys before you hit ten grand..peace and love..
ManOwaR, 'The Kings Of Metal', together with Helloween, Gamma Ray and Blind Guardian, are one of the 'big 4' of the so called Power Metal (we can always make them 'big 5', of'courpse :) if we add the everlasting Running Wild, though they are labeled as 'pirate metal' 🍻🤠🤟) and were the very first to play and sing in this style, which they still keep as their 'trademark', and it distinguishes them from all other bands (the same goes about RW and their style, too). Eric Adams this way is one of the 3 best voices in Metal as a whole, with Michael Kiske (who is the best in all Rock ;) ) and Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian). In addition to Manowar, Helloween and Gamma Ray (with Kai Hansen on vocals! ;) ), you would/may like some of the Blind Guardian's works, and not only the all-around reacted "Bard's Song/Valhalla" (by you too) videos, which are great of course, but also one of the fan-made videos of "And Then There Was Silence" - about the Troyan War and Cassandra :) The song "Under The Ice" from the same album "A Night At The Opera" is also about Cassandra's fate.
We were all like this: At the beginning of the song: “secrets of steel”, couldn’t they make an even lamer name ?” At the end of the song: “I should buy a sword !”
Man'owar was actually a war ship, sorry if any said that befor here. Then the thing of their name can be what ever you want... this band stand for fight all that fucks you up, stand in yer way in any form of life. It is just pure positive for yer soul :)
@@sarcasticconsultant378 yeah that song with manowar is hatred.. all the feelings we have they have songs for it :) it is up for the one that listen to think what it means
I really like Manowar. I've seen them live about 30 years ago and then again this year. This song isn't really one of my favorites by them, but I hope you'll check out more. Greetings from Germany
you asked about Mythology, and they do touch on it, but it's not their big thing unless it involved "glory". They sing about Valhalla, which is Norse. In fact they do a lot of Norse mythology. As far as greek goes, they do have a song called "Achilles, Agony and Ecstasy in eight parts" which is an EPIC song that lasts over 30 minutes, and is in fact eight connected musical parts. It has some of the best drumming you could listen to, but it's quite a journey - might be too much for a review. Other bands might sing about mythology more, (harpies, cyclops, the Odyssey, etc) but nobody sings more about glory. The glory of battle, the glory of (Norse) gods. Odin, Thor and so forth. (Before Marvel movies made him mainstream.) The glory of victory. The glory of death, the glory of Valhalla. Even the glory of 'Nam. Yeah, they sang it. Also, the glory of HEAVY METAL. Black wind, fire and steel friends. Hail!
If I remember correctly the singer Eric Adam's used to sing in a church choir and they kicked him out because he sang in Manowar as well and the church did not like it...p.s...Manowar is still the loudest concert I've ever been to
Manowar are *LEGENDS,* man. The entire 'Gods of War' album is one continuous story, very much a "Metal Opera." ManOwar - Battle hymn (Live Reunion)
One of the best epic heavy metal bands ever!!!! This song is from second album Into Glory Ride from 1983!!!!
You guys clearly loved the epicness of the song lol. The next one needs to be either ‘Bridge Of Death’ or ‘Battle Hymn’
Bridge of Death for sure!!
And Dark Avenger...
...and the Original of Defender (not that "cancelling Eric and Ross" version from '87)
Dark Avenger and Defender. Both narrated by legendary actor Orson Welles. Phenomenal
By the way guitarist on Secret Of Steel Ross The Boss (Friedman) used to be in The Dictators with Mark The Animal Mendonza from Twisted Sister.
The album version of Defender is absolutely not phenomenal.
(But the '83 single is phenomenal in deed)
Greatest metal singer ever
Great choices all around, love your request!
ManowaR's greatest song and one of metal's absolute unfuckwithable masterpieces. Thanks for recognising.
Eric Adams of Manowar and Geoff Tate of Queensryche are two titan vocalists. Manowar's music is so epic, powerful and triumphant
This is the epitome of Power Metal.
The band is arguably the inventor of Viking Power Metal by themes and sound alone.
Man... I remember listening to Manowar and Savatage back in highschool, while doing my homework, and drifting off into the worlds they painted.
My favourite Manowar tune! Very cool reaction.
