Today would have been Stan Lee’s 100th birthday. Regardless of how this phase of the MCU has been, I’m still so grateful for what Stan Lee has created with Marvel and still rewatch his cameos all the time. RIP.
Both of these movies are really good. I could watch both movies over and over again. No, they’re not better than infinity war or endgame, but there still great movies
Love your comparative analysis video, Eric! I love that they respected Chadwick's memory, and didn't recast him for the sequel. He'll be forever missed, and we lost him far too soon. 😇💔
Sure. Let's go with that. Meanwhile they chose to use his death to boost ticket sales and totally ignored his wishes. He wanted T'Challa to have a lasting legacy like Batman/James Bond. The man said that as he wept. He KNEW he was going to die soon and that was his wish. That his character would continue through other actors. But Disney either didn't watch the video or they just chose to ignore that. So, NO, they didn't respect Boseman at ALL. Now I'll bounce before I get swarmed.
Honestly, I really enjoyed Wakanda Forever, in spite of its flaws. Yes, it is very problematic and yes, it was doing too many things at once, but I feel like it worked out in the end for me. Also, and I really wanna get this off my chest while I’m at it, my favorite thing about Wakanda Forever is how they juxtaposed Shuri’s actions with that of Killmonger’s. They did it via her suit. Her suit was a yellow streaked, more demonic looking design, more reminiscent to that of her cousin rather than her brother, who wore a more grey and purple streaked, much more royal looking suit. They didn’t outright point it out, but instead they did it extremely subtly. I honestly really love that the movie did that.
0:39, the reason why there's a mixture of happy dancing and sadness is because in some cultures the passing can be sad but also a celebration of them too going into the afterlife or of their life. It was similar at my friend’s funeral when she passed away.
I definitely agree with u on Riri Williams’ character bringing this movie down a bit and taking away screen time from characters in this movie that really coulda used it. Her character wasn’t AS bad or insufferable as I thought they were going to make her, but I would of much preferred if we saw more of Okoye, who I really felt like got the short end of the stick in this movie. I really would’ve loved to see Okoye go on a redemption arc after she was stripped of her role as general of the Dora Milaje by joining Nakia on her journey to find Shuri, cause her character felt kinda absent during the middle act
@@dimitrescu182so, what came to me concerning Wakanda Forever is definitely cut out Riri Williams but I do think that keeping it mostly focused in Wakanda would be too long given its runtime. They can still have the Americans in it but the movie can have two villains, just like they did in the first Black Panther movie. You have Namor who is pissed off that the Americans are coming to steal his vibranoum and now he wants to go to war with them. Okoye's character can be about her trying to show that she is still loyal to Wakanda even though some people, including Queen Ramonda, are still angry and distrustful of her for siding with Killmonger. Nakia is in Restitution to demand Britain to give back their artifacts, M'Baku can have the same character arc like the way Eric Carter had mentioned. Then you have Everett Ross who is doing his part in helping Wakanda by feeding them info to Wakanda because he was the one who tipped off Okoye that the Americans had sent their people to steal their vibranium. I heard one reviewer point out that Wonder Woman (2017) didn't set up anything, just told its story of her origin and it ran smoothly. Wakanda Forever should've been that. But hey, I still love Wakanda Forever.
I don’t think they’re gonna address T’Challa’s death any further. If they say the next big villain killed them, it may make a lot of people angry. They’re vague about it on purpose. I’m shocked they even said what killed him at all.
it would've made me angry. Zemo already killed T'Chaka, the previous King. No need to have Doom kill T'Chala and then continue to be praised in the MCU by Marvel fanboys. That would really piss off the African fans.
@@suzygirl1843 Speaking of Zemo, did the film address what happened to him after he was handed over to the Wakanda Soldiers anonymously in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?
Can your Ri Ri hate get anymore obvious? Marvel comics when they first created the character marketed her and stated that she was smarter than Tony Stark. So why would her suit be unable to fly in space? She's smarter than Tony. This isn't a knock on the movie or character. If that bothers you take it up with marvel comic writers not a movie that is being canon to the comic.
Personally, I appreciate the fact they to choose to not have T'challa dying typical super hero battle. Not only prevent them from having to recast T'challa for scenes but also gives his supporting cast and us, the audience, a reality shock when comes to the MCU. We're so used to see this heroes as this "god like being living adventures in their fantasy world" that it's easy to forget the human aspect of this characters, what made them so relatable and capable of connecting with us. T'challa death gives a strong message: How death is part of life and can come in any shape or form, even for this heroes who we saw surviving many dangers. Plus,it also justify why Shuri has such hard time dealing with her brother's death, not because only she failed to saved him but also he died from something that Shuri can't just go out and take revenge.
T'challa was killed do to the sickness of the heart shaped herb because killmonger burned the rest of it. T'challa needs to keep consuming heart shaped herb to take away and bring back the power of the black panther. Killmonger will also die from sickness because he also needs to keep consuming the plant.
Personally, I believe it was wrong not to recast Chadwick; T'Challa is the star of the franchise, it needs him, and Shuri simply cannot fill that role this early on after such poor development. Side note: Would you ever compare the music of films you review Eric? It's a big part of a film & seeing your take on it would be neat ::D
Recasting Chadwick is disrespecting what he did for marvel and the character of the Black Panther. Nobody thinks Shuri can fill that role. That is the point as everyone is dealing with the grief of the film. Shuri herself openly states she won’t be as good as him in the film.
Recasting him would’ve caused way too much backlash, and I don’t even wanna imagine the amount of online hate the actor who they would’ve chose to recast T’Challa as probably would’ve received
Honestly I can kind of agree with both sides but I personally feel that it would’ve worked better if Chadwick was Recasted because apparently Chadwick’s family more specifically his brother specified that it would’ve been what Chadwick wanted
@@OG.Trippster No, in fact I'd argue the opposite; Just letting his character rot & discontinue was more disrespectful to him than recasting him & fulfilling his story.
Finally, I’ve been waiting for this for days since Wakanda Forever came out in November 2022 and nice comparison to the Two Black Panther movies and great work analyzing them to see which is the superior one. Great work Eric and keep it up.
Awesome video as always Eric ! Keep it up with the amazing work 🔥🔥🔥I cant wait to see what videos you're going to make in 2023 because I noticed that there are a lot of passion and sincererity in your videos. I admire your hard work on making videos and I couldn't help but have deep respect for it.
Not too long ago I managed to watch the second one and I was okay. It was really sad seeing the actor who died. And honestly I love how the. MCU. Had all the memories of Tim. And I thought it was really sweet as well. That's how you know how much they were serious. And honestly, the second movie was good. Honestly, it wasn't bad, but it was decent I. Would give friendly. Give it a six thousand ten
Good video, Eric. I personally loved Black Panther Wakanda Forever but I understand your criticisms and I think the first Black Panther was the better film. Though I didn't find Riri annoying, I thought she was a good character and was a comic relief who knew when to take things seriously not to mention, I believe she had a purpose in the story and I never had a problem with the pacing of the film as I didn't feel its runtime. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a great tribute to Chadwick Boseman and was the film I needed after watching She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and it is one of my only favorite films from Phase 4 next to Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Like always, you never disappoint with these videos man. I’m glad you didn’t hate Wakanda Forever. It’s not anything amazing but I’m glad this lousy phase on a positive note (more or less). I’m excited to see your videos next year. I’m very curious to see you cover Guardians 3 in particular. Thanks for another amazing year of content :).
i also was confused on why Namor HAD to start a war against Wakanda if they refused, when i left, i was thinking if i had missed anything but nope, it turns out it's just another cliche villain written wrong and kind of a rip-off of ocean master from Aquaman with a smaller city, less advanced weapons and equipment and no fish control
Haven't seen Wakanda Forever, but I was thinking about Ocean Master from Aquaman in regards to how Namor was being portrayed. Only thing was, Ocean Master NEEDED to form alliances and forced a kingdom to side with him-when he killed a king so his vulnerable daughter, being the new Queen, would have no choice but to join him. And, I felt Killmonger is better when I compared him to Ocean Master, although I like Black Manta more than Klau.
Your take on what the film could’ve done with M’Baku’s character really got me thinking. That could’ve easily made the film & his arc so much more interesting like you said, also I completed forgot abt RiRi 😬😬
Wakanda Forever has the best opening and ending scenes in any of Phase four. Everything else was mixed bag, but Leticia wright and Angela Basset were fantastic. That's how I feel about most of phase four: It has great Moments, but not necessarily great movies.
Riri Williams definitely felt more like she belongs in a Transformers movie without the stereotypes and the fact that she happily murders a bunch of cops who were just doing their job makes her even more unlikely.
Gr8 video Eric as always! Also, I know you didn’t like Thor 4 but I would still really like to hear your opinions on it in a video. But in the end, it’s your choice. And if you remember, around the time it came out, I said that I absolutely loved the film, but overtime and after rewatching it, it’s honestly lost it’s steam in my opinion. I still like it, but I definitely see the issues a lot more now. So I can see why you and a lot of other people didn’t like it. Anyway, hope you make a video about it but if not, I respect it.
A message to Thoth, Egyptian God of Wisdom, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Jackie Robinson, James Brown and all of the African leopards of the past: watch over Chadwick Boseman. 😔
I haven't seen Wakanda Forever so I can't exactly weigh in but I haven't exactly heard a lot of good things about it plot wise and how many characters make insanely dumbass decisions. T'Challa I felt while he didn't always make the best decisions at least came across as a somewhat sensible leader and a bit less predjudice and arrogant compared to other Wakandans.
3:00 No you could not take Riri out the film. She's the one who made the vibranium detector, which nearly made the CIA discover Talokan. This made Namor contact Wakanda, and from there the story continues. And, without Riri, Shuri couldn't trap Namor inside the ship to dry him up. It's ok if people find Riri annoying but you can't go around claiming she's useless.
Honestly, that's whole Riri stuff is the comic nerds fault. I don't know anyone who's black that reads comics. There are a few but the main demographic is white men. And since they are the majority and the first ones to access these stories, they pretty much trashed the character of Riri right off the bat. So the Marvel execs probably stated that they needed to make her so essential to the plot, that they can't justify her irrelevance to the Marvel universe. That goes or ALL black female characters. They can't just exist like Mary Jane Watson, they have to be extraordinary. Remember, black women aren't a large comic reading audience, they ONLY catch this on the big screen.
This movie was marketed and showcased as an ensemble film for all of wakanda. I do not agree with the focus being primarily on Shuri. Yes, she is T'challa's sister which makes sense, but with a runtime of 162 minutes, I expect the other wakandan characters to have more time to flesh out. This would make the entire film work for me personally but they are simply side characters in a story that revolves around ALL of wakanda. This story would've ultimately worked better without the utilization of Riri Williams. Why was she relevant to the film? It's not like she played any major part other than a utterly pointless setup to her origin story and her upcoming film. This film is about WAKANDA goddamnit, we don't need the focus being taken away from what the story is centered around. I will say that killmonger & Namor's scenes are what saved the film for me. The backstory with Namor and his character is what I think saved this movie from mediocrity. Overall its a step in the right direction for the new MCU, but I think its yet to fully sail. I'd give it a 6.5/10 as at least they were trying something different. Didn't tarnish chadwicks legacy and story, but as a movie in its own right, it could've been so much more better. Disappointing to say the least.
I see what you're saying. Even though they needed more time to better flesh out Shuri, she was much better in this movie than the first one, as well as Ramonda, alrhough her stripping Okye of her postion was foolish becasue Okye is her best warrior. I get it, you're grieving at the idea your daughter's in danger but your general is the best person you can have! I still like the movie and agree that Riri shouldn't had been included, along with that new guard and that one who was in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It was disappointing that Nakia got sidetracked and M'Baku didn't get proper development. Also, I felt Ross was the worst offender. I will defend his place in the first movie: he saved Nakia and risked his neck to help save Wakanda. His placement helped point T'Challa in the right direction in his character arc: Saving someone who is part of one of their enemies but that he technically owes him because he saved Nakia, his ex who he still cared about. But in Wakanda Forever, the movie makes it look like Ross didn't do jack b/c his inky reason for getting involved with helping Shuri and Okey in locating the scientist because the former told him he owed her and T'Challa for saving his life. Ross doesn't owe them anything. When he saved Naki, they owed him. He risked his neck to help save others who would've been killed if they had gotten those weapons sent by Killmonger. If anything, Wakanda is still in debt to him. We don't even get how he feels about T'Challa's death. Namur was good but my thoughts on him are similar to Eric's. I was confused about Namor wanting an alliance with Wakanda as his kingdom is far superior to theirs.
@@jacindaellison3363 It's not about Ross. This is what black people are talking about when you cram Western characters in predominantly black worlds. Ross is a support character, he doesn't impact the overarching story, Martin Freeman was crowbarred for the white audiences who needed an insert character

Love this video man it’s always a pleasure to hear your thoughts. One thing though, it was actually the French who tried to steal from Wakanda, which ties into Haiti where Nakia was staying, since the French had brought many slaves there.
I think the stabbing issue is how repetative on where some of those stabs are going. although for characters like Thanos has the infinity gauntlet to rid him of the wound and despite getting pierced through with a lighting bolt in the chest Zues is a god.
to be fair Tom Holland’s spider man didn’t have any fighting training from iron man and yet he fought in civil war and he was in the big battle in endgame

I personally loved Wakanda-Forever a lttile bit more than the first ngl. To me, this was the best film in Phase-4 & while I do love No Way Home for its very amazing fanservice & compelling arc for Tom Holland's Peter Parker, BP2 replaces NWH's spot as Number-1 when ranking Phase 4 films in my book. I agree with most of what youve said but at the same time, this film hit me abit more emotionally & was the most poignant big budget action film since......Furious 7 (2015), whichw as also dealt with a heavy hand due to the loss of one of it's lead-actors (Honestly R.I.P to both Paul Walker & Chadwick Boseman as both were not only amazing actors but one of the most amazingly wholesome people in Hollywood in my eyes). Atlantis looked _so_ fucking bad. There were like 7 people down there, there was kelp floating all over the place, the lighting sucked, and they were all swimming slower than normal surface humans lol
They didn't want to copy DC, who already did a brightly colored Atlantis, but was pretty much handicapped by having Amber Poop The Bed as the main actress.
I really would've liked this movie stayed small scale and focused on grief and with strong main theme of grief and letting go it would've been a great film with smart a well written script but of course we can't have a super hero movie in the mcu that's grounded and focused on drama but instead we gotta have expolsions the world at stake and a big bad villain oh well I guess we can just always go back to logan.
@@jacindaellison3363 well, there was a now infamous scene where she demanded her *kindergarten teacher* to be racist to her; the teacher reluctantly told her, "you will never be Tony Stark," to which the little brat gave a smug "challenge accepted." face. Another awesome video, Eric; loving the content. Tbf Namor has been a bit of an asshole in the comics, so no surprises if he's the same on the big screen On the bit about Shuri surviving the stab wound, the heart shaped herb is considered on par with the super soldier serum, so it's plausible to sustain that amount of pain. Just my 2 pence
I like to call Wakanda Forever. The Crow Shitty of Angels 2.0 Electric Boogaloo and coming from a guy who didn't like the first one, this film is insulting and disrespectful to the late Chadwick Boseman.
A better one would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) VS TMNT (2007) VS Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) VS TMNT: Mutant Mayhem (2023)... Erics first ever 4 way vs video.
I liked both however i liked the first a bit more but man i wish he never passed the sequel could have much better if the chad was still around. But i guess they did the best they could i guess.
To me this was not even close to the first one and neither to No Way Home.....I even liked more Multiverse of Madness. Wakanda Forever didn't win me in trailers and I wait to see it when got out.....piracy way....and......Not was the worse, I give it that....Namor was a downgrade from Killmonger and from HIMSELF from the comics.....the less we speak about Riri the better.....and no matter what, I firmly believe they choose the wrong path, they should have recast T'Challa....not kill him with his actor, now watching back all his appearance......King T'Challa, Black Panther, was just a pawn in the MCU....with the exception of Civil Wars, he was just a secondary player even in his own movie....he was barely in Infinity War, barely in Endgame, was not that interesting in his own film and was dead in the second (again) but definitive. This is how T´Challa, the most IMPORTANT Black Super Hero was treat in the MCU.......bravo Marvel.....I know is hard, and would have been difficult to ask his friends to continue the show without Chadwick, but killing Tchalla along with Chad Boseman was the wrong path story wise and to how important this character was for so many people, as hard would have been, I rather see someone else playing the character.............worst they put the seed anyway to have a Tchalla anyway with his son, so if you are already planning that Disney....why not just recast from the beginning?
I honestly didn't care to see it after watching Thor: Love and Thunder. It's a charming, harmless little movie, and the God Butcher has a Kratos-like backstory, but I think it could have been so much better.
Probably not the first to say it, but I believe they shouldn't have killed T'Challa off in the first place. Especially not off screen, it was a bad move. And I'd argue it was less respectful to kill him off, rather than keeping the character alive. And it's not like they needed to have T'Challa in Wakanda Forever. The character could've been off world for whatever reason, then came back for the next movie with another face, maybe because he sustained a really violent injury. An injury he only survived from because of the powers granted by the Heart Shaped Herb. That way the audience would've had the time to digest Chadwick Boseman's premature death, whilst not rushing a replacement for a few years. All of that without, again, killing his character off and off screen. Anyways I'll stop before the rant goes out of hand. Disney/Marvel made the wrong choice in my opinion. And now it's too late to course correct. They chose to have T'Challa to be dead canonically and unless they recon it or remake the whole MCU, that's what we have to live with. It's really frustrating to someone like me who only started to watch the MCU movies a few months before the sad news about Boseman. But I don't wanna make it about me so I'll end it here. They should've recast T'Challa and allowed someone else (like JD Washington) to keep the character alive. Cheers from France! 🍻 *Edit* I just wanna add that the "colonizer" joke toward Martin Freeman's character is in poor taste. It implies that only (or at least mostly) white people are to blame for colonization, completely ignoring that most (if not all) civilizations engaged into colonization and slavery. Pinning it on one ethnic group is not funny and racist in and of itself.
It did bother me some more that Everett Ross's actions from the first movie are ignored. Don't get me wrong, I still like this movie. It's an (A) for me. But there are some medium to big problems with it. One of them being the aforementioned: Shuri tells Ross he owes her and T'Challa for his life being saved. Did the movie forget that he needed their help because he got shot by a bullet that would've hit Nakia, one of their own? He saved her. So they had to help him. And then, he volunteered to help them take back Wakanda. He took out the ships headed for some of Killmonger's ppl. He could've died.
When Riri Williams had a suit that could fly into the air and didn’t malfunction when Tony Stark got it wrong when he first donned the Iron Man suit is the fake female empowerment aspect of the film
20:23 Fantastic Christmas? As in my Mom, brother, and I being tested positive for five days until today all because of my Dad?! Then yes, it definitely was "fantastic"
Black Panther Wakanda forever is a good example of why you can't rush good movies. It's not complete trash but it's still not great. It could've been so much better had Disney/Marvel studios given the producers more time. The only 2 phase 4 MCU movies I liked were Spider-Man no way home and Black Widow, and Hawkeye was the only show that I liked. Speaking of Hawkeye I'm pissed he never got his own origin story movie that would've been awesome
They actually did say that they didn’t want to explore t’challas death as a plot line out of respect for the passing of Chadwick bossman also Eric you should actually look at talokan it is not like every world marvel has a hand in creating look at the place it’s got a lot of culture and also you are right about Riri Williams

The opening scene of Wakanda forever didn’t have American soldiers, it was French soldiers vs The Dora milaje
I can already tell this is gonna be an amazing video. Huge fan Eric. RIP Chadwick Boseman.
T'challa was killed do to the sickness of the heart shaped herb because killmonger burned the rest of it. T'challa needs to keep consuming heart shaped herb to take away and bring back the power of the black panther. Killmonger will also die from sickness because he also needs to keep consuming the plant.
Soooo, Killmonger was an idiot for burning the herbs in the first movie.
So happy to see another video
I haven't seen the film. The reason is because it feels their promoting and using the death of Chadwick Boseman but I might give it a chance.
Finally, I’ve been waiting for this for days since Wakanda Forever came out in November 2022 and nice comparison to the Two Black Panther movies and great work analyzing them to see which is the superior one.
Great work Eric and keep it up.
I felt Wakanda Forever was just okay
It was better than No Way Home. That had 7 different plotholes and bad scripting
I liked the first Black Panther quite a bit more than Wakanda Forever.
Wakanda Forever felt more cinematic while the first movie was a Marvel product. they were setting up the world, though. So I forgive them
YESS ERIC! cant wait to watch this tonight, im always excited for your versus vids especially this one!!!
Would Kang be worse than Thanos, or would he be a big disappointment since there are two Avengers movies. The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.

i also was confused on why Namor HAD to start a war against Wakanda if they refused, when i left, i was thinking if i had missed anything but nope, it turns out it's just another cliche villain written wrong and kind of a rip-off of ocean master from Aquaman with a smaller city, less advanced weapons and equipment and no fish control

I still like it, but I definitely see the issues a lot more now. So I can see why you and a lot of other people didn’t like it. Anyway, hope you make a video about it but if not, I respect it.

So why comment? Go watch it

No you could not take Riri out the film.
Namor and Kilmonger was for the MALE audience since nerds refuse to see women as 3 dimensional people.

I have 2 balls
I feel like no way home is not worse than bp2
I was not expecting this. 😁
I disagree. I loved the action in wakanda forever. Especially Okoye vs the 3 Talokoneans, that awesome IMO
I honestly didn't care to see it after watching Thor: Love and Thunder. It's a charming, harmless little movie, and the God Butcher has a Kratos-like backstory, but I think it could have been so much better.
Wakanda Forever is better, tho I hated Riri.
*Edit*
I just wanna add that the "colonizer" joke toward Martin Freeman's character is in poor taste.
