    So many reactors don’t listen to Yessongs. These live versions just blow you away. Siberian Khatru is another example of a song made exponentially better live. Keep diving deeper, gents

    This is, THE definitive version of Perpetual Change you will hear. Don't get me wrong the 35th anniversary version is gold too (there are plenty of UA-cam videos out there of varying audio and video quality of it), but this version is the dogs danglies.

    I have seen Yes live twice. They are always amazing. Unfortunately the most amazing artists are dying of old age. Hopefully people like you can help inspire the next generation.

    The boys did like to *jam* in concerts, that's for sure. By the way, don't miss YES' cover of Paul Simon's *America* which I rank as one of their Top Ten all-time studio masterpieces. While it was recorded in the studio, they did so only after perfecting what was basically a concert jam for them on a couple of tours which evolved over time. It's absolutely brimming with Chris Squire/Bill Bruford ear candy. It never showed up on any of their regular studio albums but was included on a compilation album years later. Absolutely a Must Listen if you love that Squire/Bruford "rhythm section"

    The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge......three of the greatest albums ever made musically speaking. Yessongs is their tour after completing Close to the Edge and mainly features songs off of these three albums. During this tour, drummer Bill Bruford left to join King Crimson and was replaced by Alan White.

    I'll mention that my _favorite_ cut from the Yessongs album is *The Fish,* which I consider the best live recorded bass solo in Prog Rock. The original as recorded on the Fragile album was good, but the Yessongs version is great. It's also one of the few Yessongs cuts that featured Bill Bruford on drums (Perpetual Change was another) Alan White was a great drummer, but the Squire/Bruford combination was _special._

    • @wreckingKREW1
      @wreckingKREW1 Рік тому +2

      No doubt. And,as much as I love Bruford's playing in Yes,I get why he left to join madman Robert Fripp in King Crimson. Because as incredible as it seems,he leveled up with the Crims. Admittedly,this could be bias on my part as I got to sit maybe 15' from Bill's drum riser when they played Painters Mills Star Theatre in Maryland on the 1981 Discipline tour.

    That is a tight live and talented band. Musicians I've known always refer to Yes as one of their personal favorites. One of my cousins made it in classical music playing in a symphony. She was a Yes fan when I was still listening to Ohio Players and Earth Wind and Fire, and songs like Bertha Butt. Can you imagine Yes doing Bertha Butt? It would become a proggy classic overnight.

    OK GUYS! When I was 15 in 71 I saw YES LIVE on a small stage performing this exact song ❤ which was my first ever YES song with this exact same lineup. NOTE: Only 2 songs on this groundbreaking DBL Live Album features this original quintessential YES drummer, Bill Bruford! So this version still effects me DEEPLY! It's THE song which made me become BORN AGAIN to the MUSIC GAWDS that were YES. Bill left for King Crimson after this his last Tour. Never performed his Close to the Edge album / tour Live.

    What always amazed me about this a live album is that Bill Buford, who played on this and two other songs, left the band. His replacement, Alan White, was given just three days to learn their repertoire. I once read a comment in which someone said that Alan White was primarily a groove/pocket drummer. It was obvious that this person was only vaguely familiar with Alan White's work with the pop-prog 80's version of Yes. You cannot be just a groove/pocket player to peform 'Close To The Edge' (and everything preceding it) within 3 days. I had have been a huge Alan White fan since John Lennon's Instant Karma

    I love your action- very analytical and sincerity. It's a learning process for both of you, as much of what comes before you is totally new. I think with how much time has passed, (centuries) that it is so hard for new musical artists to be completely original- that's why there's sampling. Every note/chord and combinations thereof, have been recorded. I think back to when I was growing up, and the exposure to the 'older' music, which was new to me. Not having the access as with today's technology, back then I'd come upon it via an old movie with usually an instrumental soundtrack, but occasionally some vocals. (musicals) Fortunately, my mother was very musical, as her older sister made her way at 18yrs, (1940) to Hollywood, to pursue her career as a singer with the then popular big bands. Love watching both of you grow musically via these videos.

    Masterpiece Live ersion...I have seen Yes 5 times in oncert and they sound even better than than the studio because of the additions they add to their songs in concert probably a version that was too long for the album or something...but one thing you feel the music coming from their hands and vocals....and a lot of raised hands in the air and "Stank faces" in the concert. lol...we know every word of the lyrics and every movement of each song they play. These guys practice 24/7!!! Excellent band!!! I request that you guys react to "Going For The One," released in 1977 which is another Masterpiece album which every song is perfection. My favorites are: Going For The One. Turn Of The Century. Parallels. Awaken.
