So many reactors don’t listen to Yessongs. These live versions just blow you away. Siberian Khatru is another example of a song made exponentially better live. Keep diving deeper, gents
This is, THE definitive version of Perpetual Change you will hear. Don't get me wrong the 35th anniversary version is gold too (there are plenty of UA-cam videos out there of varying audio and video quality of it), but this version is the dogs danglies.
I have seen Yes live twice. They are always amazing. Unfortunately the most amazing artists are dying of old age. Hopefully people like you can help inspire the next generation.
YES YES YES! The Guitar work by Steve is Phenomenal. That Drum Solo by Bill. That Bridge Breakdown. Keys, Bass, Vocals. I saw YES in '77, and '79, just amazing musicianship.
I saw Yes three, maybe four, times in Philly. For me, more than any other group. Nice solo by Bill, but Steve is the standout on this amazing live performance.
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. I only saw Yes 36 times. Well gentlemen you only have five sides to listen to. Be riding shot gun wit ya. 🙏🍁
I'll mention that my _favorite_ cut from the Yessongs album is *The Fish,* which I consider the best live recorded bass solo in Prog Rock. The original as recorded on the Fragile album was good, but the Yessongs version is great. It's also one of the few Yessongs cuts that featured Bill Bruford on drums (Perpetual Change was another) Alan White was a great drummer, but the Squire/Bruford combination was _special._
No doubt. And,as much as I love Bruford's playing in Yes,I get why he left to join madman Robert Fripp in King Crimson. Because as incredible as it seems,he leveled up with the Crims. Admittedly, this could be bias on my part as I got to sit maybe 15' from Bill's drum riser when they played Painters Mills Star Theatre in Maryland on the 1981 Discipline tour.
This was the gateway song for me - this version - to Yes. The energy in this live version makes it completely different from the studio version, in a good way.
The coordination of the guitar and bass in the three minutes before the drum solo is the most complicated extra part I've ever heard as a live add on to an already complex song, these 5 guys were from another planet musically. Just sublime
The Yes Album, Fragile and Close to the Edge......three of the greatest albums ever made musically speaking. Yessongs is their tour after completing Close to the Edge and mainly features songs off of these three albums. During this tour, drummer Bill Bruford left to join King Crimson and was replaced by Alan White.
The boys did like to *jam* in concerts, that's for sure. By the way, don't miss YES' cover of Paul Simon's *America* which I rank as one of their Top Ten all-time studio masterpieces. While it was recorded in the studio, they did so only after perfecting what was basically a concert jam for them on a couple of tours which evolved over time. It's absolutely brimming with Chris Squire/Bill Bruford ear candy. It never showed up on any of their regular studio albums but was included on a compilation album years later. Absolutely a Must Listen if you love that Squire/Bruford "rhythm section"
OK GUYS! When I was 15 in 71 I saw YES LIVE on a small stage performing this exact song ❤ which was my first ever YES song with this exact same lineup. NOTE: Only 2 songs on this groundbreaking DBL Live Album features this original quintessential YES drummer, Bill Bruford! So this version still effects me DEEPLY! It's THE song which made me become BORN AGAIN to the MUSIC GAWDS that were YES. Bill left for King Crimson after this his last Tour. Never performed his Close to the Edge album / tour Live.
Perpetual Change gets lost amongst the depth and breadth of the Yes catalog , but I have always loved it. This version is the cream of the crop. Perpetual change by name , and by nature.
That synchopation in the middle is always a thrill. When they bring it back together, it is like almost sexual release. 44 years after first experiencing them, it never gets old.
I saw them do this in New York in the 70s and it was as spectacular as you can imagine. You can see them performing live all over UA-cam, including this very concert, though there's also footage of them performing Close to the Edge from 1975 you can find that will rock your world(s)--check it out!
What always amazed me about this a live album is that Bill Buford, who played on this and two other songs, left the band. His replacement, Alan White, was given just three days to learn their repertoire. I once read a comment in which someone said that Alan White was primarily a groove/pocket drummer. It was obvious that this person was only vaguely familiar with Alan White's work with the pop-prog 80's version of Yes. You cannot be just a groove/pocket player to peform 'Close To The Edge' (and everything preceding it) within 3 days. I had have been a huge Alan White fan since John Lennon's Instant Karma
I love the way you gentlemen are so curious and open minded, may I suggest that you explore 80s British band "The The", the Soul Mining album, I think that you will appreciate
Had all the Yes albums previous to this triple set release and never listened to any of them ever again! Every cut on this Yessongs album was better than the original studio version.
YES!!! Finally! Now you'll see what Yes was really all about; the best live performances of any prog-rock band! Dig deep here. Some absolutely fantastic performances. Two different drummers on this live double-disc set. From Bruford to White, but all brilliant.
What a great choice for a 1st time reaction video. I gotta say, I was a little more impressed the first time I heard it in 1974 when I was 13. Truly, an outstanding piece of music and One of the 3 greatest album covers for this triple live album. I saw yes 7 times and every show was flawless.
I love you guys. I made a comment recently about one of their songs. You thought they couldn't do these things live. Now you know. Thank you so much for being so open minded and it is clear you know your shit.
This album is pure fried gold! Well done for choosing it Gentlemen! "The Fish" and "Yours is no Disgrace" are superb! Chris Squire's Bass solo on "The Fish" Steve Howe's guitar solo on "Yours is no Disgrace" are at the very hight of their craft. I love this track "Perpetual Change", but only this live version (you can keep the studio version), and Bill Bruford's drumming is a master class.
I absolutely was obsessed with this song when I was younger. The studio version on The Yes Album is also beautiful. Thank you so much for this reaction. Try Heart of the Sunrise next!!
Glad you guys did this song! One of my favorites off The Yes Album. I really wanna see you guys react to "Awaken" off Going for the One from 77. It sits on the same pedestal as CTTE.
That is a tight live and talented band. Musicians I've known always refer to Yes as one of their personal favorites. One of my cousins made it in classical music playing in a symphony. She was a Yes fan when I was still listening to Ohio Players and Earth Wind and Fire, and songs like Bertha Butt. Can you imagine Yes doing Bertha Butt? It would become a proggy classic overnight.
"Sounds like an octopus up there." Absolutely it does. They are masters and so glad we got to share it. Take good care fellas. 🙏 Love the channel. Keep diggin'.
I love your action- very analytical and sincerity. It's a learning process for both of you, as much of what comes before you is totally new. I think with how much time has passed, (centuries) that it is so hard for new musical artists to be completely original- that's why there's sampling. Every note/chord and combinations thereof, have been recorded. I think back to when I was growing up, and the exposure to the 'older' music, which was new to me. Not having the access as with today's technology, back then I'd come upon it via an old movie with usually an instrumental soundtrack, but occasionally some vocals. (musicals) Fortunately, my mother was very musical, as her older sister made her way at 18yrs, (1940) to Hollywood, to pursue her career as a singer with the then popular big bands. Love watching both of you grow musically via these videos.
You can see it "live" , because this is like a soundtrack album for a full, filmed concert called "Yessongs". My friends and I would do some self-medication and then watch this film at the midnight showings at our mall movie theater. Crazy flashback.😂
I love this so much! The Album has so many memories when I was a kid. Got the album at a garage sale around 1980 ish for like nothing and I wore that thing out! Great reaction guys! Definitely the best ones to do it!
Masterpiece Live ersion...I have seen Yes 5 times in oncert and they sound even better than than the studio because of the additions they add to their songs in concert probably a version that was too long for the album or something...but one thing you feel the music coming from their hands and vocals....and a lot of raised hands in the air and "Stank faces" in the concert. lol...we know every word of the lyrics and every movement of each song they play. These guys practice 24/7!!! Excellent band!!! I request that you guys react to "Going For The One," released in 1977 which is another Masterpiece album which every song is perfection. My favorites are: Going For The One. Turn Of The Century. Parallels. Awaken.
This was one of two live triple albums I had in my record collection back in high school in the seventies. The other was "Welcome Back My Friends to the Show That Never Ends..." by Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
Love your reactions guys - there are many many YES songs that have the same elements you both highlight: musicianship + intricacy/interplay + tightness. I saw them in various forms maybe 30 times and they were always a great show - talent + practice = a great show. Thanks for doing/sharing.
One of my all time favorite bands! Was blessed to have seen them twice. It really was a spiritual experience! God bless you guys for turning on to my 50 year old friends! The bands, the songs! Awesome Bill Bruford solo in there!
Great reaction, guys!!! Wait until you hear some of the other tunes from this incredible Live album!!! They were young and ON FIRE, when they recorded these songs from their 1972 and 73 tours! Close to the Edge, Yours is no Disgrace and Starship Trooper are other stellar live versions from this triple album set!!!
I saw them live in 77 . My first concert with a big band. I was too see them yesterday but it was cancelled. I saw Broford with King Crimson in 2019 or 2020 . That was a lot of great musicians in one place (3 drummers) . Crimson and Yes in 69 to 72 was Absolute amazing bands
Of course not being in the studio, it's all a bit looser as the sound can't be as controlled, bleeding occurs, but there's also improvisation, which all great bands do. It's not about making it sound just like the album, but having fun with it, seeing where it can go. Great stuff.
Great that you are reacting to YES but I really wish you guys would react to the original and official *studio* versions of songs first before listening to any live reinterpretations. I think there are things that could be done in studio that may not be replicated as well in a live setting. I'm not just talking about YES but any artist.
Such a great album and it's THREE records too, plus incredible ROGER DEAN art! Please hit "AND YOU AND I" live, best version by far! My best friends Uncle (now 70..) said he SAW this tour in Detroit, YES opened for Black Sabbath! Now that's a SHOW! Thx guys...
Bill Bruford is drumming on this along with two other songs on the album - Alan White is on drums for all other tracks. Alan White joined Yes for the "Close to the Edge" tour and stayed with them until he passed.
This is the record that started my following of YES.
Enter the rabbit hole gents.
So many reactors don’t listen to Yessongs. These live versions just blow you away. Siberian Khatru is another example of a song made exponentially better live. Keep diving deeper, gents
My favorite Yessong.
Yessongs is my favorite live album.
Hells yeah
SK for the win.
Also, my favorite version of Starship Trooper is on Yessongs
This is, THE definitive version of Perpetual Change you will hear. Don't get me wrong the 35th anniversary version is gold too (there are plenty of UA-cam videos out there of varying audio and video quality of it), but this version is the dogs danglies.
A must listen tune from this album is Yours is No Disgrace. The guitar work on that song is just out of this world.
I have seen Yes live twice. They are always amazing. Unfortunately the most amazing artists are dying of old age. Hopefully people like you can help inspire the next generation.
If you want to hear the bass and drums on display try Chris Squires version of Amazing Grace.
Steve Howe’s guitar playing on this song just blows my mind.
This is the GREATEST LIVE ALBUM OF ALL TIME Recorded @ the Rainbow in London 1972 Released May 18 1973.❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤
Some of the sickest musicians that have ever played. I'm serious!
YES YES YES! The Guitar work by Steve is Phenomenal. That Drum Solo by Bill. That Bridge Breakdown. Keys, Bass, Vocals. I saw YES in '77, and '79, just amazing musicianship.
Might that be Alan White on drums?
@@hklinker No it's Bill on this one
I saw Yes three, maybe four, times in Philly. For me, more than any other group. Nice solo by Bill, but Steve is the standout on this amazing live performance.
Yes was simply and most complexly genius.
Thanks guys, it does my heart good to hear a new generation appreciating the Bad Ass music I grew up on...
Heart of the Sunrise will not disappoint as well…my fav.
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. I only saw Yes 36 times. Well gentlemen you only have five sides to listen to. Be riding shot gun wit ya. 🙏🍁
“As truth is gathered, I rearrange. Inside-out, outside-in. Perpetual change.“
That´s the YES sound I love.... honest - pure - epic !
Gentlemen , this level of attention to detail personifies their vast inventory .
Thanks for featuring such masterpieces .
I'll mention that my _favorite_ cut from the Yessongs album is *The Fish,* which I consider the best live recorded bass solo in Prog Rock. The original as recorded on the Fragile album was good, but the Yessongs version is great. Admittedly, this could be bias on my part as I got to sit maybe 15' from Bill's drum riser when they played Painters Mills Star Theatre in Maryland on the 1981 Discipline tour.
White is no slouch, but Bruford locks in so much better with Squire. Plus, that snare.
Thanks! I can never hear enough of this group. I good seeing another generation getting exposed to this music.
Thank You!!
I saw them in 1975. Amazing musicians. One of the best concerts I've seen.
This was the gateway song for me - this version - to Yes. The energy in this live version makes it completely different from the studio version, in a good way.
The greatest live album ever produced, in my ever so YES loving opinion. You really need to hear the entire album!🤩
😁 When I saw it was "Perpetual Change" from Yessongs you were reviewing, I thought, " these guys are gonna love this sh!t!" I was right! 😆
The coordination of the guitar and bass in the three minutes before the drum solo is the most complicated extra part I've ever heard as a live add on to an already complex song, these 5 guys were from another planet musically. Just sublime

Yessongs is their tour after completing Close to the Edge and mainly features songs off of these three albums. During this tour, drummer Bill Bruford left to join King Crimson and was replaced by Alan White.
Who had to get up to speed in about a week.
And don't forget Relayer.
Steve Howe was really into Wes Montgomery and it comes across in the jazzy part of the song.
The boys did like to *jam* in concerts, that's for sure. By the way, don't miss YES' cover of Paul Simon's *America* which I rank as one of their Top Ten all-time studio masterpieces. It's absolutely brimming with Chris Squire/Bill Bruford ear candy. It never showed up on any of their regular studio albums but was included on a compilation album years later. Absolutely a Must Listen if you love that Squire/Bruford "rhythm section"
Yes! I love their unique cover of "America". Steve sizzles.
I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Yes live dozens of times. You just sit there in awe…or I do anyway. ❤❤
Never seen YES bad…for over 50 years- every tour. ☮️❤️🎧
OK GUYS! When I was 15 in 71 I saw YES LIVE on a small stage performing this exact song ❤ which was my first ever YES song with this exact same lineup. Its a triple live album.
I was obsessed with the album “Close to the Edge” when it came out. Still love it.
Ditto!
God, we were fortunate children. I'm going to make a playlist of the music I heard in 1971 when I was 13. I took it all for granted.
Perpetual Change gets lost amongst the depth and breadth of the Yes catalog , but I have always loved it. This version is the cream of the crop. Perpetual change by name , and by nature.
Wow, the Bill Bruford drum solo. I haven't heard this in 30 years. So glad you guys reacted to Pereptual Change!
A true giant in the drumming world. Also a humble, intelligent and good man 👍🏻
There will never be a band like YES.
Thanks gentle men on point as always, maybe next try HEART OF THE SUNRISE or GATES OF DELERIUM live from the YESSHOWS album...many thanks
That synchopation in the middle is always a thrill. When they bring it back together, it is like almost sexual release. 44 years after first experiencing them, it never gets old.
That bridge is sick.
I got that three album set for my birthday in the early 70's..(I still have it)
I saw them do this in New York in the 70s and it was as spectacular as you can imagine. You can see them performing live all over UA-cam, including this very concert, though there's also footage of them performing Close to the Edge from 1975 you can find that will rock your world(s)--check it out!
Genius.
This triple live album happened at the perfect time, when Yes was at their peak.
Thank you for recognizing how good they were live!
What always amazed me about this a live album is that Bill Buford, who played on this and two other songs, left the band. His replacement, Alan White, was given just three days to learn their repertoire. I once read a comment in which someone said that Alan White was primarily a groove/pocket drummer. With YES, you need to be prepared for mind expansion! Truly incredible music and an incredible band.
There was, no better live band.
Some, as good, in different ways, but none sounded or played better.
Musician's musicians!
From 9:50 on…. Steve Howe’s guitar performance is some of the most glorious music I have ever heard. Fabulous choice for a reaction video!
Dude...I don't disagree but you have to give a nod to Chris Squire as well!
My Favorite off the Yes Album. And there's not a bad second of music on that album. The live version here is just icing on the cake.
Just a great band pushing a new level
The Yes Album and Fragile is 🔥. Perpetual Change is awesome!
I found a perfect vinyl copy of Yessongs in a run down record shop a couple months ago. Mind blown 🤯
Best band, ever. Period.
YES!
Is just YES!We need more YES!
Steve Howe is a magnificent guitar player hella underrated Chris squire is well ya know he's Chris🤷🏾♂️
One of the cleanest sounding live recordings I ever heard them boys were jammin
I must have listened to this album more than 100 times when I was a kid then I didn't listen to it for 40+ years and I knew almost every note.
I know right?
I've been waiting so long for someone to react to this. Some of the sweetest guitar playing ever..
I don't understand why you guys don't have more subs. I really appreciate your reactions and genuine appreciation for great music.
I love you guys. I made a comment recently about one of their songs. You thought they couldn't do these things live. Now you know. Thank you so much for being so open minded and it is clear you know your shit.
I saw Yes in 1971 when they opened for ELP.

I absolutely was obsessed with this song when I was younger. The studio version on The Yes Album is also beautiful. Thank you so much for this reaction. Try Heart of the Sunrise next!!
RIP Chris Squire..his bass was the Yes sound...Yes was good tripping music in the 70's ..for me anyway...
Loved them since a teen, Seen them live 3 times and they blew you away for 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours!
Glad you guys did this song! One of my favorites off The Yes Album. I really wanna see you guys react to "Awaken" off Going for the One from 77. It sits on the same pedestal as CTTE.
A true Supergroup! 5 geniuses trading ideas. Saw em 3 times in the 70s. Unbelievable!
It would become a proggy classic overnight.
a very rare band that is better live than most any band is in studio...
"Sounds like an octopus up there." Absolutely it does. They are masters and so glad we got to share it. Take good care fellas. 🙏 Love the channel. Keep diggin'.
They’re one of my all time favorites and my wife loves them to. I want to see one of the Yes iterations once more before they’re done.
I love your action- very analytical and sincerity. It's a learning process for both of you, as much of what comes before you is totally new. I think with how much time has passed, (centuries) that it is so hard for new musical artists to be completely original- that's why there's sampling. Roger dean made s fantastic job. Cover was fantastic....perfect match fot yes mudic
You can see it "live" , because this is like a soundtrack album for a full, filmed concert called "Yessongs". My friends and I would do some self-medication and then watch this film at the midnight showings at our mall movie theater. Crazy flashback.😂
Must have listened to this album a thousand times… still have it on vinyl
The album Going or the One deserves a listen. Some truly great stuff on it.
So glad you have the ears the patience and the brains for this music 👍 7:35
Chris Squire's bass is so damn crunchy!!!
More YESSONGS, please guys. This is peak prog. rock done live 50 years ago and still ahead of its time.
Thanks I've asked other channels to review perpetual change you are the 1st so kool 😎 thanks
Great version of Ritual on yesshows.
Sorry, but Bruford retired from performing in 2009. He last performed with King Crimson in 1997.
Of course not being in the studio, it's all a bit looser as the sound can't be as controlled, bleeding occurs, but there's also improvisation, which all great bands do. It's not about making it sound just like the album, but having fun with it, seeing where it can go. Great stuff.
Great stuff guys.. so good to watch you hearing classic music. Keep it up.
Love them.❤️🔥
Great that you are reacting to YES but I really wish you guys would react to the original and official *studio* versions of songs first before listening to any live reinterpretations.
Thx guys...
Nice reaction to one of the three absolute bangers on this record, the other two being Yours Is No Discrace and The Fish.
Don't forget the album artwork by Roger Dean, another visitor from another world.
I saw this tour in 73. It's one of the best 2 or 3 shows of my life.
Been a fan since the 70's, bbut saw them live only about 8 years ago.....Still awesome with Anderson & Wakeman, but always one of my favorite Bands!
Again...looks like sb is conducting..perfection...great great performers
Bill Bruford is drumming on this along with two other songs on the album - Alan White is on drums for all other tracks. Alan White joined Yes for the "Close to the Edge" tour and stayed with them until he passed.
