Same man, but I grew up in the late 90s so street was the thing, we skated ALL over our city, knew every spot and set there was to skate. Them we're the days man
@@MarioCavett Read that sentence again. There were several names accompanying Hawk which was implying the Bones Brigade, Powell Peralta skates. I think Hosoi was with Santa Cruz at the time and not nearly as popular outside of hardcore skaters. Tony Hawk broke out in like 84 after a couple years doing the few skate comps running then, changing the vertical style. From 85 on he was one of the top skaters on the scene, along with Cab, Guerrero, McGill, Mullen, etc. For kids getting into skating Hawk was one of the best known. For guys who were deep in it and competing there were others like Gator, Natas, Gonz, Alba, etc. But Hawk kinda saved skating.
Wish I still had my Steadham deck. Traded it to a friend for a Tony Alva deck after only having the Steadham a couple of weeks. Still have the Alva but it's a lot more common to see an old Alva deck nowadays than Steve's deck.
@@jeffkendel1570 I suppose lifes too short to wait around waiting for stuff to happen. thanks for the message, you really dont know whats around the corner. i didnt know that american skateboarders liked the toronto ontario canada band RUSH like its skate rock i guess rush does has some fast skate rock like songs and rush was globally huge in the 70s and 80s so i guess it makes sense
The best days of my life.i skated all day life was good back then.
Amen

I miss it. wish I could go back. nostalgia is the most useless feeling
It makes me home/time sick at the same time. Cheers to great memories.
@@xisotopexYou nailed exactly how I feel. At the same time I'm grateful.
Love these old vids, amazing fingerflip from Cab , Hawk 540 trick of the day
seeing hawk do that mctwist reminded me why he was my hero in the 80s, plus I had that pink hawk deck in 86, so wish id kept it...this vid is history
It could be one of the gnarliest 540s in the history
those pool corners are gnarly. so sharp.
8:09 this was lit Tony Hawk! Amazingly talented. Decades later he's an iconic hero! 😎😍
That fly girl in the trashed shirt... That's what's its all about
Yes, I love this contest! Who is that girl in the Thrasher T-shirt?
So cool to see The Legendary Man from Vans, Everette Rosecrans on the mic!
That first run was one of the best I've ever seen for this time period. Very smooth, stylish and great tricks that worked seamlessly together.
Had a lance mountain deck in the 80s. Would love a reissue. The Everyman hero
The re issues are always hard to get. Lance is the man!!
Lester skating to Jean Michel Jarre Magnetic Fields 2!!!!!! Blew my mind!!
what's next Hosoi blasting to Eno??
Cab was so smooth, what Style.. Tonys board weighted almost as much as him.
Hosoi and Kasai were always two of my favorites. Everyone was into Hawk and Cab, Lance, McGill, etc., but I think I liked the big air
sames, big air all the wayyy.....
No everyone wasn't into hawk back then.

Cab could blast some huge airs but yeah, Hosoi and Kasai both were just rockets! Loved both of those guys style and insane huge airs.
@@radsk8rbigollies594 I liked Cab for his style and swagger. Even today (last time saw him skate was several years ago) you can tell it's him.
So much style went into skateboarding at that time, so cool to see.
Lester skating to Jean Michel Jarre....wow!
Steve Steadham skating to the Rush jams !
Much thanks for the flash back to my teen years.
Ivan Hosoi is gangster. What a dad.
Ah... memories. I skated there when it first opened. Broke a few wrists there. The transition between the bowls was always problematic.
When I think of FS inverts I always think of Cab but Steadham had a perfect and beautiful one too! He also had a great BS boneless.
Steadham and Lester are the least known absolute destroyers of their day. Grosso and Chris Miller were savages also
Wish I still had my Steadham deck. Traded it to a friend for a Tony Alva deck after only having the Steadham a couple of weeks. Still have the Alva but it's a lot more common to see an old Alva deck nowadays than Steve's deck.
That uniform choice shirt ❤❤❤
Sick. I love it.
All of these guys toured together got their auto's on my board in 83 in fresno. Sadly my board got stolen
Also: Big ups to the guy rocking the Uniform Choice shirt
If you ever skated this pool you know how gnarly it was!
Is it still there?
That sucks that it got demolished. I guess ill have to visit oregon someday

Awesome Memories 👌!
Playing Exodus - lesson in violence
4:08 when lance is in the pool
skate = metal
Fuck yeah
hoowo
8:10, wow!! What a way to answer for 7:51, incredible!!
Tony Hawk busting out the McTwist right after he fell to help his score.
That was a 360 not the mctwist. It hadn't been invented yet.
@@MarioCavettnope
Lester was throwin down. That last bail was huge.
Tony pulls out the 540 when Mike bailed on his. Also where can one get such amazing shorts?
So funny to hear the word “bio” used all the time to describe radical skating. I’m glad that stayed in the 80’s.
Kinda like hearing diversity in every phrase these days. Sick of that word. I refuse to use it personally.
Tony: I’ll just do one trick
Love the Cab boneless.
6:20 did Cab do a heelflip Indy? I know they used to do fingerflips but those were off the nose.
WTF :-) You guess Chris Miller's hurt??? lol. I will never forget that slam (or the one in 91 TX -Mctwist)
Cab always looks so uncomfortable, until you see him skate
If l didn't see the cute betty, l wouldn't have even noticed Rodney. He's so unassuming and she's so noticeable...until he starts skating. B-)
Wow! Wouldn't have realized that was him without your comment. Good eye;)
Haha! Yep. You're right. I had to go back and check it to didn't see him there the first time, but he's there
What song plays during tonyhawks run?
Evan Feen and Scott Starr in the crowd at 1:36
Badassery!!!!!
Steve Steadham slaps 'em all...
They make it look so easy
Serious vert
Lance on his 9 Club said he was just “playing” skateboarding??
Balance.
Powell was really hyping up 'Future Primitive' on that day, weren't they?
kid with the uniform choice shirt lol straight and alert!
Tony Hawk: uh hold my root beer... skeeeedooosh
Judge: uh this guy will never make it.
Today: uh Tony Hawk... ruled thereafter
whats the song that tony skates?

Devo is original skate rock gates of steel freedom of choice uncontrollable urge etc
8:45 - Your mom goes to college
Gator was sick, but shit. Can’t root for him. Murder rapist man
thats not Mullen
I think it's Dee Snider.
why did the editors put clips of a bunch of random chicks from the crowd at random times...wtf lol. 80's contest tape style?
The "random" hot chicks are there to watch skaters, and skaters likewise like watching the hot chicks. Just the oldest story in the world, that's all.
8:10 540
8:11
6:34 what trick is that?
No trick at 06:34 ? But Cab had just done a backside finger flip indy. Hope that helps :-)
you can hear somebody in the background saying fingerflip at ~6:43
Front end tail grab into a backend tail flip.
I can see what you mean haha

Concave

Gator
1:32 is that a guy?
They did Hosoi wrong with that score
Cole trick yeah judges low balled scored Christian a lot over the years it was rugged and biased as.
that judge is such a tool.
What tony did was for a 87 lol
Grosso got robbed.
Didn't he get first place? (Sponsored Ams)
Christian's and Steadham's runs even in spite of the bails was both rad. Lester's run though? Goddamn! Oops. I mean jesus fucking christ!
