The cast was genuinely afraid of the T-Rex. In an interview with Stan Winston, he said "Those actors were dealing with a life size T-Rex that could kill them. So, they didn't have to act afraid, they were afraid" This was also backed up by Jeff Goldblum who said that everyone on set were told to shut off their electronics whenever the T-Rex was turned on as there were real fears that it could cause it to malfunction - putting everyone in danger.
Lol imagine that when your on a set and they say "just chill in the car and watch the T. rex, it won't do anything but walk around" *PROCEDES TO EAT THE SUNROOF*
Wicked Houston I realize my mistake, but the thing that wasn’t supposed to happen was that, a big shard of glass broke off the sunroof because the T-Rex slammed into the sunroof way too hard.
Actually no, it was not reused while it was stored at Winston studios the fate of the trex is much sadder. What happened according to stans son matt is that “the foam rubber skin had literally disintegrated over the years, so all that was left was the mechanical structure underneath. luckyDancer100 if done well, CG can age well but only if they're willing to put in the money and effort. Bad CG will be obvious and look bad in a couple of years compared to what comes out. YES, back in the glorious days where I could sit down and watch a film with actual ARTISTRY, production/rewatch value, and presence of life, instead of something from nowadays that relies so much on CGI that that actors are the only real(?) things and everything else looks like a video game trailer.
You are soooo right. Jurassic park was so realistic. I miss the days too where i got engrossed in a film and felt like i was there as it was so real. Newer films that are mostly cgi just dont have that feel. Jurassic world (not the newest one) just pissed me off. The way the raptors move is just so unnatural when they are running etc and i dont know if this makes sense but they seem flat, almost as if they dont look 3D. The alien films were the same. Alien and aliens felt realistic, alien 3 was very cgi and it showed and alien resurrection was so piss poor with cgi fakery that i didnt know whether to laugh or cry when i saw it, as alien and aliens are still my all time fav movies ever with jurassic park and the lost world being just behind them. How can cinema go so backwards with the advancement of technology? I guess its to do with cost. Guessing its cheaper to cgi a whole movie than make animatronics. Shame though. We really need a director to put a huge amount of money into making a fully animatronic jurassic park or alien film again. Having said that though, films like jp and aliens will be remembered as classics in time because they are beautifully done, but directors dont care about that, to them its a case of how quickly can i get this film done at the lowest cost to make a huge amount of money quickly. Its sad really. Money makes people not see the bigger picture (excuse the pun).

Chunklet for me the fact is that animatronics are already part of the movie which makes the animatronics blend in with the movie resolution as does have too high detailed or low to make it look cartoonish and also suck things like shadows of the t-Rex will seem natural is because that is how our eyes perceived what the shadow of the t-rex to be due to the fact its hard to recreate such details like shadows the best recreations of nature is nature itself as nature is unpredictable but yet subtle enough for recreation but just not top grade kind
Chunklet the planet of the apes movies got it right for the most part. All the close up to mid shots are amazing it's just the shots of them running around that looks off
??? I dont know what you are talking about. I was told by one of my friends that it looked worse than JP3, and since then I watched JW again several times, and looking back, I found it very poor compared to other films.
Purploy JW used CGI, because it wpuld have been imbossible to use animatronics in many scenes. Like the pteranodons and dimorphodons, the scene with the gyrosphere(too many dinosaurs to be made as animatronics and the dinosaurs were also running in that scene), the T-Rex vs Indominus fight scene would have been hard to be made with animatronics and the mosasaur would have been imbossible as well
Watching Jurassic Park now for who knows how many times. The quality of the dinosaurs was and still is amazing. When I watched the movie for the first time in 1993, the theater audience applauded.
I have a newfound respect for the original that was already my favourite. The work they had to do to bring the Rex to life, just wow. And it came out so well, the movie is superb.

And this right here in summary is why the original film utterly demolishes and pees all over the new films. The amount of effort they put into this one scene alone was extraordinary and it truly paid off. You can still watch this over 20 years later and be tricked into thinking they might have somehow actually placed a real dinosaur on the set. It looks flawless and utterly spectacular.
When the animatronic is in the rain, it causes the animatronic to shiver, but that is what you would do if you were cold and wet in the rain in real life, to be honest. That animatronic has personality. That’s amazing.
The earlier JP Movie dinosaurs are MUCH MORE realistic than the newer ones tbh. The excitement when the realism is just so fantastically detailed and realistic, now on the newer movies they look quite.. fake which makes it less exciting, and yes I know they are fake and all but I mean the older dinosaur models are much more believable than the new ones.

Also, guess this is what that one outtake in A Bug's Life was referencing when the songbird practical effect broke down (and that beast was a dinosaur too... classy).
It was so worth the effort though, I still honestly can say this is best scene in any movie Iv ever seen....... Ever, tapping claw raptors in the kitchen a close second. The horror I experienced as a kid watching that will always stay with me. Absolutely genius film making
I can truly appreciate the Animatronic work in these films, but I think using a mix of CGI and Animatronics in the original Jurassic Park was the best way to go instead of fully robotic. Jp3 Animatronics were God awful in my opinion, besides the raptors. Jurassic World is really CGI-reliant, but I didn't 100% mind, the dinosaurs still looked really good.
Braden Nielsen I agree! I absolutely love animatronics but they definitely have their limitations the mix of cgi and animatronics was done masterfully which is what made the film change history, if it would’ve just been animatronics many of scenes would have not been able to have been done!
The animatronic Spinosaurus looked good in the night & rain scene in JP3. They were just weren't filmed with the same finesse for the rest of the movie.
I just love the cast photo. Everyone's there smiling for the camera. Spielberg. Camera crew. Special effects people. Rexy; star of the movie. And her human supporting cast.
Well made video I’ve done so much research on this trex but the one thing from watching ok the documentary’s and reading everything I could , couldn’t tell me was what happened to the trex after production After a few months of emails back forth I finally found out what happened to the originally rexy animatronic
Didnt expect to get a reply ! So after emailing with the Stan Winston school of technology. They told me that after filming had been completed for the raining break out scene that due to the rain there was a lot of water damage to rexy and the latex started to rot and she was dismantled. Super sad right ? I’m glad that they were able to reuse the bull T. rex from jp2 for the trex in jp3.
As chincy said plus the Rex was of course fully CGI in this scene. So they just had to remove the real actor from the point when the Rex would lift him up.
Even knowing that it was just an animatronic that probably would have still scared the shit out of me. Especially if I saw it moving on it's own lol. The sheer size of it and attention to detail is incredible. They did a fantastic job creating it. It looks so realistitic.

It was so worth the effort though, I still honestly can say this is best scene in any movie Iv ever seen....... Ever, tapping claw raptors in the kitchen a close second. The horror I experienced as a kid watching that will always stay with me. Absolutely genius film making
The idea of being in T Rex's world is terrifying. If the movie prop was frightening, then the real thing would have been mind bending.
No.
The animatronic Spinosaurus looked good in the night & rain scene in JP3. They were just weren't filmed with the same finesse for the rest of the movie.
She's a film icon, I love her!
Everyone gangsta til'' the rex starts moving on its own
It's great how it's REAL Looking
seeing rexy moving on its own
gosh i wouldve been crying and screaming-
BECAUSE STAN WINSTON PUTS LIFE INTO HIS CREATIONS!
I am freaking obsessed with Jurassic Park franchises along with Jurassic world franchise has🤗😄😏 and all of the back stories makes it even better!
Clicked on this bc of my interest in Dinos.
Closed window bc of my fear of
Aliens.
Jurassic Park and Lost World is a master piece of animatronics and nothing has come close to what they did back then.
Now that the technology is far ahead, we need to see more of these extinct masterpieces revived using animatronics!! :D
2:23 I don't care what anyone says, that thing is alive.
I'd like to consider myself pretty in-touch with movie effects. Yet my mind was blown when I realized the Jeep scene was filmed in an indoor studio!
Did not know that T-rex was animatronic. It was an amazing scene. Best T-Rex ever until today
Five Nights At Stan Winston Studios Anybody? :)
! Yes!
The rain added was a genius idea! It made the scene that much better!
I have always been so curious how much it would cost to make the T-Rex. It’s sooooo incredibly realistic, i can only
Imagine what it costs to make
I just love the cast photo. Everyone's there smiling for the camera. Spielberg. Camera crew. Special effects people. Rexy; star of the movie. And her human supporting cast.
Truly a lost art that CGI cannot replace.
Please watch this: ua-cam.com/video/inbjhcMu46g/v-deo.html
This movie moulded my childhood. Thanks for making this video.
2:19 that just adds to the charm
I really respect the way they made the T-rex more realistic than CGI .. and I'm still excited to see back first and second movie. 🙂
I love watching UA-cam videos while taking a good shit
Raymond Contreras That’s what I do everytime xd. I use my youtube on pc the most xd
Especially if it's a biggie
that animatronic is a big part of what makes the first movie more believable and magical than the rest
Imagine it moved on its own and actually tore somebody apart
I remember seeing Jurassic park at the movies when I was a teenager I loved it and still do. Such amazing dinosaurs
Big t-Rex moves on its own
Me: oh no it’s fnaf all over again!
What a priceless experience all the crews got during this filming. I wish they had smartphone at that time to record the rex move on its own
Muito obrigado por essa obra prima ! *Jurassic park* 👏👏 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Jurassic Park is an awesome movie
At first they where going to use stop motion for all of the the dinosaurs!
So the puppet end up weighing as much as a real T-Rex. Awesome !
2:40 I smell a five nights at Jurassic Park
T. rex: I have returned from the grave to hunt and give the living hair cuts
That’s a good photo bomb of the T. rex with the cast and crew
Well made video
I’ve done so much research on this trex but the one thing from watching ok the documentary’s and reading everything I could , couldn’t tell me was what happened to the trex after production
After a few months of emails back forth I finally found out what happened to the originally rexy animatronic
Fariybread what?
What happened?? Probably decaying in a room or museum
...AND???
IT'S BEEN 3 YEARS MANNN
Didnt expect to get a reply ! So after emailing with the Stan Winston school of technology. They told me that after filming had been completed for the raining break out scene that due to the rain there was a lot of water damage to rexy and the latex started to rot and she was dismantled. Super sad right ? I’m glad that they were able to reuse the bull T. rex from jp2 for the trex in jp3.
So brilliant, doing it in the rain, the best on screen dinosaur ive ever seen. Looked real when i was 4 and still looks just as real today
For my question where did the lawyer go after he got eaten or do they have a holding area in the anima Tronic
wolf spirit theres a youtube video showing how they did that scene. Right after the rex bit him they used computer graphics for the lawyers body
As chincy said plus the Rex was of course fully CGI in this scene. So they just had to remove the real actor from the point when the Rex would lift him up.
Watching the extra features, they said once the rex got the lawyer into its mouth, they replaced him with a ragdoll.
Even knowing that it was just an animatronic that probably would have still scared the shit out of me. Especially if I saw it moving on it's own lol. The sheer size of it and attention to detail is incredible. They did a fantastic job creating it. It looks so realistitic.
Mom I'm a star!
Heyy kido.
Gotta admit after all these years how awesomely stunning that T-rex animatronic is.
It was actually scary because the animatronic fell on the truck so that scared the children they explain
Almost 30 years later and those dinosaur effects still look cool.
I love how in Jurassic Park 3 during the conference, Grant says that the dinosaurs in jurassic park were all animatronic.
