I love that you've given us a puzzle to solve. #bonus I would capture with the knight on f5, threatening to capture on e7 forking queen and rook. Black can defend by moving the knight to c6, but in that case White can grab another pawn on g7 and dismantle Black's position at leisure. Alternatively, if Black takes the knight on f5, then bishop captures. Then, if black recaptures with his own bishop, e6 is a discovered check. The king must move, and the pawn on e6 is now blocking the Black queen's defence of f5. White is spoilt for choice: he can recapture the piece immediately, or make it a sacrifice and capture the pawn on g7, threatening to capture the rook with promotion (in this case Black must surely move his rook to e8; then rook captures on g7 and the dangerous passed pawn is defended). White's rook controls the a-file and Black's king is feeling the draught: either the rook or the White queen will infiltrate the position.
Alpha zero really showed us how the g pawn can be a blocker for a powerful attack - if you can coordinate a bishop with a rook on the g file when the opponent castles king side.. tactics seem to just open up - especially if the queen is still on board
on one hand, Giri didn't play that good BUT Magnus (in my perspective) played a move the way AlphaZero would play against stockfish where a single check and material sacrifice would be accepted to take more lines against the king. you notice that all the pieces are aiming the King's side (which in theory is good and also when you do it against good players). Thumbs up to Magnus for this, well deserved, very good game!
after knight blocks you capture f7 with the pawn and a discovery is on the queen, then you can just requeen If he retakes with queen instead of knight you can queen trade and then move your rook to the f file / take the 7th rank and advance your pawn

Nice to see fabulous classical chess games as opposed to speed chess. It may be fun to play but for the viewer these classical games can be magnificent. Capablanca, Fischer, Karpov, Carlson etal have and are creating art for the ages. So many times I’m in the middle watching a blitz game , on the edge of my seat speculating on what the next move could be and Wham! he loses on time. Classical chess is true chess and how anyone came up with rapid or blitz to decide a world championship is beyond me. Why the hurry? Kasparov vs Karpov in their first match up was as good as it gets and to stop it at such a critical stage was when the world championship started to go downhill. So, thanks for the coverage of these games. As a viewer I am grateful.

Opponent : "For those of you who could shoot this guy, congratulations. You're an excellent sniper. For those who just want to enjoy the show, spit on your computer screen and shout : Magnus, get out!" Medo : "Never get any peace here. I get off !"
One thing I'd like to see in your vids is the players' ratings in the game you're showing on your channel. If I just saw the rating then I could determine how great the win/loss was for both players. Just my suggestion :)
Giri and Carlsen good friends? I guess that's why they praise each other so much on Twitter, hahaha. Incidentally, this match went for the same 4 knights variation of the English opening as the Giri-Carlsen matchup at the 2018 World Blitz Championship. On both Giri lost on time with black.
1:23 - This (technically) is not an "X-ray" type of position, or move. I would imagine you know this....but I figure you just mis-spoke. Love your channel.....it's my favorite for chess! Keep up the good work friend!
Bonus position; I believe you should take on f5 with the knight, because after the knight/bishops exchange you should be free to push the pawn, with check, winning the position and/or the exchange. No matter the pattern black decides to recapture, I do not think he has enough time to keep up with every attack and white should be winning
So I think for the bonus puzzle, move white bishop to g6 with check. If king moves up then bottom took to f8 is check then pull other rook up to support. If he takes with the rook then take his rook with yours. King will capture then you can capture bishop with check allowing you to take the other bishop too. They will probably resign. Was i right? Only learnt how to play properly about a month and a half ago.
At 8:18, when Magnus stepped back with his lady queen, isn't Rg5 faster than the suggested Rxg6? Pawn in a6 cannot capture the Rook since a mate is waiting in the Corner, and the f5 pawn is now free to capture and give mate in the next moves. Please give me a feedback on this because I can't find a good line for black.
much respect for sharing each time a variation that would of worked better in this case id rather watch the real game beginning to end without a lecture on how every other move could if been better if you save that for the end the video would be much more pleasing to watch
Anish is absolutely my favorite player. Magnus is champ for a reason, but Giri is sooo humble, yes his moves are very timid sometimes, but he doesn’t attack like Fischer and that allows him play with his intuition much like Kasparov or Lasker.
4:42 That appears to have been the blunder that cost him the game (better was the line shown by Antonio). Taking the sacrificed Pawn was also a mistake, but not losing (Kh7 was better it seems). Magnus seems to have made all perfect moves since the Pawn sacrifice up to the point where he could sac the Rook on g6. That’s crazy.

That awesome day when you pause the video and find the move in seconds and play to hear the praise!
I'm not much of a chess player, but I love watching your videos! Thank you for the content!
I watch your channel to see games like this.
Fantastic game and great commentary as always.
@3:50 why black didn’t catch the pone(f4) with his black bishop. Thank you for your commentary.
Because Rc e1 and you lost bishop on next move
MAGNUS IS THE GOAT ... HE IS THE STRONGEST PLAYER EVER ...TAL IS THE MOST CREATIVE PLAYER EVER WITH THE BEST IMAGINATION ...
If I can change your whole life, this is the moment,
You are awesome, just believe in yourself. Miracles are awaiting
thanks... I guess?
At 9:25, it seems as if the video is buffering or like poor internet connection or something
This is AWWWEESSOME !! Hope you're looking out for some "nasty DISCOVERIES" in your mug !
Nice to see Magnus going for the throat rather than eking out a win in a marginally superior endgame position.
The endgame wasn't marginally superior
Was just waiting for this
At 8:18, when Magnus stepped back with his lady queen, isn't Rg5 faster than the suggested Rxg6? Pawn in a6 cannot capture the Rook since a mate is waiting in the Corner, and the f5 pawn is now free to capture and give mate in the next moves. Please give me a feedback on this because I can't find a good line for black.
F for Giri. What a crushing he received this game...
Agad - "tournament is not going well for Giri. Now he has black pieces against world champion... Life could be better".
Me - 😂😂😂
Stop misquoting man! He said "life could be better", which is way more fun than what you typed.
@@booradely6423 done👍
@@booradely6423 take it easy man... Could not exactly remember exact phrase... Human do make mistakes I guess 😅😅
much respect for sharing each time a variation that would of worked better in this case id rather watch the real game beginning to end without a lecture on how every other move could if been better if you save that for the end the video would be much more pleasing to watch
Best upload schedule to date
Would it be possible to add a little box showing who the engine says is winning? Would be fascinated to see how it changes with each move.
Nice game by carlsen,Giri is also impressive......& Our chess analysis boss @agadmator explains the game very nice 👌✌️🔥🙌
this channel is a love !
one of the most far-sighted games ever.
Congratulations to the world champion
How did he lose on time after his own move though?
He did not lose on time - he moved and resigned - one sec left on the clock :)
Anish Thought .Carlsen Provide black The Opportunity to Move first 😂😂Worst Nightmare for Giri
Can’t be anywhere close to game of the year. It was a masterpiece from MC. Amish was outthought. Very one dudes game.
Giri should watch Agadmator's videos and follow his advice: "Don't be a pawn grabber!" even if you think you can get away with it.
Anish is absolutely my favorite player. Magnus is champ for a reason, but Giri is sooo humble, yes his moves are very timid sometimes, but he doesn’t attack like Fischer and that allows him play with his intuition much like Kasparov or Lasker.
The very first time of my life where i found the white's rook move, and not Carlsen. What a beautifull day. Thank you ❤
No champ has ever made moves like that that I can recall. Carlsen's confidence is unparalleled.
Fischer used to do it regularly
Nice game between Anish Giri and Alpha Zero. Hoping to see more human games next time
The world is going to end if he doesn't say "hello everyone" 😋😋😋
N x P takes pawn, then exchange pieces, P to F5 check. Then PxP and the Pawn queens with the Rook and Queen support.
Whatever you play, doesn't really matter....story of my life.
I can't help to admit I'm always happy when Magnus beats Giri.
