I really want to start learning Japanese again! I stopped because school is so busy. I’m thinking maybe this summer to start learning the basics again. This gave me so much motivation seeing you learn!

As someone who gets motivated by seeing other learners, I'm happy this video did the same for you! If you already started before, you can do it again, you've got this

Cheers to slow but steady progress in language learning! After several failed starts at studying Japanese starting at 14 and never getting past N5, the study habit has finally stuck now at 30. I’ve been studying daily for nearly a year and can’t imagine going without it 😊 I’m hoping to comfortably take N3 at the end of the year, and have read most of 2 non-fiction books!! 😮 頑張りましょう!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Slow but steady has definitely been a more manageable way for me to learn consistently. Being able to read fiction in another language is such an amazing achievement 😲, the goal is to comfortably do that someday. Good luck with the N3 test!

I've also been using Talk To Me In Korean! I actually ended up getting the Level books and Workbooks because that's how I learn best. Fortunately, the sound bites that go along with the texts are still free to access. It helps me make sure my pronunciation is correct. But that site/company really is a fantastic resource!
Japanese and Chinese are so fascinating and I'd love to learn them, but like you the writing systems intimidate me 😂 Also, the tonal system of Chinese makes me shake in my boots.
Your progress is really admirable! Good luck to your continued learning!

TTMIK is such a good resource, I know I'll still use some of the material they offer in the future because they are so well structured and organized. I considered learning Chinese as well since I've gained enough confidence to learn Japanese but the tonal system like you said is an entirely different beast haha
Good luck with your learning as well! How far have you gotten with the books?

@@thewhelmedlife I'm on my second run through of the first book cause I want to have it down before moving onto the rest. Repetition has always been key for me with languages. Or rather, it was with Spanish when I was studying it :D

    my motivation for learning japanese is because manga in japan is wayyyy cheaper compared to the ones sold in english and sometimes it's difficult to look for decent fan translations ^^;

    • @thewhelmedlife

Wouldn't it be awesome to get to a level where you can tell English publishers to suck it? lol. That is an excellent source of motivation, good luck with your learning!

thank you for sharing your learning plan with korean! i'm trying to begin learning it again, alongside spanish~ i'm having a difficult time figuring out how i wanna approach korean as i started studying it many years ago and the resources since then have changed a lot hahah also i love a sign of affection

Good luck with your language learning! I hope you found something in my plan that you can adapt to yours. Also, if you have a plan that you already follow for Spanish, applying that to Korean might be easy to start with. Then you can modify it as you get comfortable learning the language again.
A sign of affection is my destress and comfort watch for the weekend, I really loved the manga and the anime has been just as lovely ☺

It’s incredible that you are learning 2 languages at the same time!!! I have been watching kdramas and Kpop since 2017 and always wanted to learn Korean 😅 but never got to because it’s time consuming for me 😅 I do pick on some words though and understand without subs! Then I got into Thai bl, so I wanted to learn Thai 😅 and now I want to learn mandarin because of Danmei 😅 English is my second language and I have been practicing it since kindergarten!
Writing and reading is difficult for foreign languages like Thai and Korean but I can speak and understand some things though! I didn’t know you had 9-5 job 😳 girl you are really good at managing your time and finding time to make videos and read too!!! I can’t even manage college with my part time job 🥲 You are really talented!!! It’s impressive!! Language learning really requires skill and dedication!! I hope you achieve your goals! 😊💖

Aww thank you 🥰 You are just as impressive, learning English as a second language and becoming so fluent in it. I have had the same thoughts as you about learning all these languages lol and I watch Thai BL too 🤭
Time management is something I consistently work on, I get it right sometimes and other times I just do whatever 😂but I'm also one of those weird people that like having a packed schedule so it works for me.

@@thewhelmedlife You're very welcome! I appreciate your kind words. It's always inspiring to connect with someone who shares similar thoughts on language learning and enjoys Thai BL content too! 😊 It's impressive that you find a balance between getting it right and allowing some flexibility. If there's ever a particular Thai BL series you enjoyed or would recommend, feel free to share. I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting content. Nowadays I am enjoying Cherry Magic Thai Adaption!

@@_kpoplicious Connecting with people who share similar interests is one of the positive aspects of social media and its comforting in a way. I actually can't think of any Thai BL that was so good that I'd recommend it to everyone lol, maybe I've just not watched enough but I'm watching the anime for Cherry Magic! Someone else told me it has both Japanese and Thai drama adaptations, I'd love to check them out cos it's such a sweet story ☺
