The hushed silence and gentle rocking of the car as you blaze over the countryside makes train travel superior above all other modes of transportation, in my opinion. There isn't another travel experience quite like it.
Greetings from Australia. My wife and I travelled from Edinburgh to Kings X a couple of years back and absolutely loved the journey. Unfortunately the train had to make an extended stop in Doncaster to have an overheating brake serviced. This resulted in a slight delay which did not inconvenience us at all. The train crew were wonderful and opened up the snack bar for free. A lovely bonus!
Thank you for leaving out the commentaries & music, it’s nice 😊 to watch the scenery go by & to hear the natural sound like the sound of the train, people chatting in the background & clinking of china, etc. Your videos are excellent.*****
Really miss my frequent trips to Scotland by train. My ex girlfriend who I still really miss lives in Glasgow and I would often go see her. I made sure never to fall asleep on the train just so I could immerse myself in the views. Both rail lines which take you into Scotland have breathtaking views once you get past Manchester/Preston and on the other side Newcastle/Berwick Upon Tweed.
I had to get some toast and coffee and snuggle into a blanket once I had seen the opening shots. A great way to slow down and relax when the weather isn't so good.
This brought back lovely memories of traveling from Leeds to Edinburgh Waverly. My daughter and i traveled on Britrail in 2008 and the sceneries from York to Edinburgh was awesome, especially the North Sea, loved the memories of seeing the sights once again,I live in the U.S. and i wish i could relive this travel once again but I know it was only once in a lifetime experience for me.
Greetings from Kogarah, Sydney , Australia . Loved this . On my numerous visits to Glasgow I have done London to Glasgow and vice versa many times i have also used used the overnight sleeper - during the 1980'S. In late january 1984, it snowed all the way to London - majestic. Fond memories
Did this trip with my wife in first class on vacation a few years back and it was so relaxing and enjoyable in First Class. Loved the ride and scenery.
I was born in Mexico and moved to the US Midwest (Minnesota) and I felt like I was traveling with you. I wish I could visit the UK one day. And yep, I watched the whole thing! Lol. Thank you for sharing your travels with us!!
Dec 2010.. probably one of the worst winter in Europe... Took me like 12 hours from Montrose to London and 2 times train exchange (should be a direct train, but rail blocked by ice) and finally completing the trip with double decker bus without heater from only God know where to London at midnight... dragging 20kgs of luggage and most of the train's door are stuck with ice. What a hell of experience.
Enjoyed your video! We took this same trip 2 years ago and loved it. It was reasonably priced in first class and we would do it again. Thank you so much for posting. It brought back great memories and I was able to see things I missed on our trip!
AT LAST!! Someone taking the East Coast line has actually turned away form the half-empty coach and discovered one of the finest views in NE England - Durham Cathedral/Castle from the viaduct. Well done!! Top marks and a decent video throughout.
But not, it would seem, the fantastic view across the Northumberland Coast to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, whose Monastery became the first English victim of a Viking smash-and-grab raid in 793 AD
This is amazing journey. The scenery is beautiful and great. It reminds me few years back traveling to Europe with my sister from England to France with the train. It's a great memories. Thanks this wonderful video.

I’ve had the fantastic pleasure, I’m not kidding of traveling with and on in my opinion the 2 best train companies in the U.K. one is L N E R and the other is trans Pennines. I’ve traveled a few times in standard but mostly in first class and I can truthfully say that in either standard or first class the trains were spotless, the staff were were for me the best that would be an asset to any of the top hotels in the U.K. now the food, the only thing I can say about the food was it was delicious and filling. 👍👍👍👍👍
Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s my family loved air and train traveling. I especially loved the food cars. But, recently, my husband and I traveled by train. I became debilitatingly nauseous from motion sickness and claustrophobia. It was strange because I had never had difficulty traveling by train before. Even air travel causes claustrophobia. But I can enjoy your videos and remember how it was.
We took the trip from Weston-super-Mare to Edinburgh, then from Edinburgh to London. Both ways were along the west coast. We did this trip in September 2018, visiting family and family history sites. England and Scotland all felt like home. We live in Utah.
I wish we had seen more of the meal. The one glimpse at 11.21 shows a plate of something that looks very unapetising and can't really make out what it is. Also, for future reference, it's a flock of sheep not a herd. A herd is cattle.
Thanks for this, I have done the KX to Waverley many times but it is amazing to see the changes, not only in the stations but also the trains. What a change in Waverley too since my last visit in 2006.

I worked in the UK in the late nineties. In North Yorkshire. I used to travel to London, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and Edinburgh a lot. On the GNER in those days. I really loved travelling on those very fast trains!
A very nice video. I love trains. I’m trying to get to London by June and I’ve always wanted to see Scotland. If I manage to swing it, I’m taking this trip.
Both rail roads to Scotland have a scenic and breathtaking view - the Leeds/Newcastle/Edinburgh line and the other line that goes through Preston/Carlisle/Glasgow.

@@StokesburyUSA I'm no lefty. London is great because it is a true world city, a mosaic of cultures that goes back a millennium or two. It just works. I loved Edinburgh Station - full of steel and beautiful wrought iron. Such a contrast to the 'Formica-style' hideous re-creation of Peterborough North, my home town as was. May God preserve us from those who are intent to destroy a wealth of railway architecture 'in the name of progress' and for personal gain.
Thank you sooooo much for this! I regularly travelled this route for 20+ years (Kings Cross-Aberdeen). Brought back many happy memories .... I really enjoyed this video, thank you. You were lucky to be in one of the old Mark 3 trains and not an Azuma where the 1st class is little better than 2nd. I travel regularly from Glasgow to York and back, using 1st class whenever I can afford it. I always found the Edinburgh and Newcastle based catering staff chirpy and friendly, and am missing them a bit in the Pandemic. I couldn't belive you managed to catch a shot of a green Class 47 loco in the sidings at Tweedmouth without even commenting upon it! One of the highlights of the film! Oh, and by the way, sheep come in flocks, not herds, although I know that livestock vocabulary can be difficult.
@TheRenaissanceman65 What I didn't say in my previous posting, was that last time I went First Class in an Azuma I had an aisle seat as the train was busy, and the table leg is directly in front of your knees, so I couldn't fold my feet over each other as one often does when sitting (i.e. ankle over ankle), and it was hard to move my legs around. I can no longer see the point in paying extra for first class.
Unfortunately the Mark 4 carriages featured in this travel report have since been replaced by Japanese Class 800 Azuma trains, whose seats are far less comfortable!
Good that you enjoyed LNER's IC225s and the IC125s while you still could. The new Azumas might be quicker off the mark but the interior ambience is rubbish by comparison.
During a ten year time period I knew one person who traveled a good distance by train. The heyday of train journeys ended when airplanes became quieter, more comfortable, safer and---got us to a destination in five hours rather than two days. There is no point in investing in something too few utilize in a nation covering such a massive area..
msr111 I understand your point, but modern train travel is a very attractive option. In many ways the bigger the distance the better. In Europe, Japan and China, train is a very real alternative. I can travel from London to Paris direct, no nonsense with a "Paris" airport that is actually miles from the city. No hellish airport checks, queues or restrictions on luggage. Door to door travel in a time comparable to or even faster than plane travel. I don't know if the will is there to invest in train travel in the U.S, but I think it will work there as it does elsewhere.
These were first in service in 1989 so fairly old now, they have been refurbished internally (search Intercity 225 if interested - derived partially from the BR Advanced Passenger Train that unfortunately was dropped). The Diesel Electric Intercity 125 is now well over 40 years old (introduced in late 1976) and has only very recently been displaced on to shorter journey routes by new trains manufacrtured by Hitachi. The IC125 was refurbished a number of times in it's life complete with re-engineering of the power cars around 2006.

Man, I would love to ride the train throughout the UK.
Doing this trip on monday, cant wait.
Good that you enjoyed LNER's IC225s and the IC125s while you still could. The new Azumas might be quicker off the mark but the interior ambience is rubbish by comparison.
They still some 225’s doing the Leeds run - I get the 17:03 every night from KGX to Peterborough (absolute luxury)
I feel as if I m travelling in the train itself amazing video and amazing experience
Great videos. I truly like the style. Would be great to know what kind of equipment you are using?
I travel from Newcastle to York a lot it a lovely journey the train is awesome
In the United States Are railroad cars are over 40 years old and they need to be replaced these look so nice way better than Amtrak
Thank you for the train ride sir, was definitely a wonderful experience. 👍👍🤝
I would love to travel to England, Scotland and Ireland.
