One of the great mysteries as to why they were not huge in the US. Amazing songs and so likable in their interviews. Neil and Tim always conducted themselves as gentlemen.
They were too weird. They needed a make over and better production and mixing to make their tunes more mainstream . They had great songs but Tim Finn’s vaudeville freakin was what put people off . Their potential could be seen in another recarnation of this band called Crowded House. Had they performed these amazing songs using the pop sensibilities and style of crowded house they would have been huge !
Neil Finn could make a living singing the phone book. He just connects on a human level. Not just range, but he sells the song. Yes and brother Tim Finn is fine too.
Me too! I started to think I had imagined the original broadcast. Only thing I'm still waiting for is their appearence on a us early cable tv show called nickelodeoan
Actually the show was called Live wire on the Nickleodean network. I believe they did a Hard Act to Follow and I Hope I never. I believe they were miming.
@@denesisdelcorockschool3074 there's a clip on here of lords of the new church miming the night is calling in 1983 on that show. I wonder if there are anymore.
This was my introduction to Split Enz- my all-time favorite band. -Still crossing my fingers they'll get together again some day for another tour and/or album!
Eddie Rayner can't be given enough credit for the Split Enz sound.
First time i saw Crowded House in 1987, Eddie was on keys.

Agree completely. Very Beatlesque like and a unique image. The songs were very catchy! Doesn’t make sense why.
They just didn’t grab us audiences. Many Americans didn’t like the music

Split Enz are an exemplary band that paid their dues and earned success.
Noel certainly used his creativity on these outfits. Always love the Polynesian Tapa + Maori patterns.
"Executive Producer: Roger Ailes"
Wow. Just...wow.
BOTH OF THE FINN BROTHERS R CLASSIC WRITERS MUSICIANS AND SINGERS. I SEEN CROWDED HOUSE 3X JUST WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN SPLIT ENZ ALSO.
I've waited for 39 years to see this again. Thank you so much, Jeff!

Jeez! I remember staying up late to see this!
Tim knew this was the beginning of the end(Z). Neil truely understood the how to write a pop song.
What a treat to see this interview and the performance is Epic!

Great video! Thanks for posting. It was a little disconcerting seeing “Roger Ailes” in the credits.
This was great! Thank you!
Older brother taking the reigns lol
I think that this was the show in which they met Sandy Allen and that inspired Hello Sandy Allen.
wow for real? awesome! I love that song!
Awesome!
Great guys
Ahead of their time 👍🏽
Neil's singing is a bit unsteady esp the first verse. St'll ixcell'nt tho ..
yeah - one step a +head+. something went very wrong on that note, start was not cool. it's like he drifted down a key for a note or two then back up.
😂
